Topic: Thinkpad Sound and Graphics BASE

hi all. i've got two ibm thinkpads over here, and tried to install driverpacks after having installed windows (with sad folder created by base 8.12.4). drivers such as sound, chipset, and graphics didn't install properly (sound tray icon is not there, standby mode is unavailable, and while dragging windows or scrolling text, it all goes very slow).

here all the two HWID text files, and base log and ini:

if you need something i've not included, or some extra info, feel free to ask. i know the hardware of both these thinkpads are pretty similar to each other, but they are not exactly the same. plus, in device manager, there is a yellow mark in the display adapter section, but not in the sound section.

thanks for looking into it. please forgive if i've forgotten something.

Re: Thinkpad Sound and Graphics BASE

Well, both your IBMs have the same HWID, although it's supported by DriverPack Graphics C\D\G\A5\mobility.inf (unsigned).  Since it's unsigned, that's probably why you're seeing the yellow symbol, although the dpinst utility should have handled that better.

Can you edit the $source$\OEM\DP_Install_Tool.cmd file and change this line:
Start "MicroSoft Driver Pack Installer Tool Running" /wait /separate /realtime /min CMD /C DPInst.exe /c /s /sh /lm /el /sa
to
Start "MicroSoft Driver Pack Installer Tool Running" /wait /separate /realtime /min CMD /C DPInst.exe /c /s /sh /lm /el
and test again.

It shouldn't have any affect, but I've had success by using only those switches.  I'm also having intermittent issues with the current commands.

@Overflow, we went over this in the testing area. http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 902#p25902

Re: Thinkpad Sound and Graphics BASE

hello mr_smartepants. i've tested back removing the /sa switch (using graphics 'a' only this time), but the yellow mark is still there. anyways, the yellow mark doesn't really bother me. what does is that for some reason graphics lags when windows are dragged or text is scrolled, and that the sound is not even present in the tray bar, and when accessed from the control panel all the options are grayed out. weird thing is while sound and graphics did not install correctly, other drivers, such as ethernet, seem to have installed well (as you can see, my internet it working :)).

plus, the blue sad window says it cannot find file nor path:

thanks mr who is smart in his pants

Re: Thinkpad Sound and Graphics BASE

the problem is with driver signing... the dpinst tool will not properly install an unsigned driver.

the mobile drivers are not WHQL signed  wink this is an issue with the ms tool DPInst... and as far as we know there is nothing that we can do about it...

slipstreaming the drivers VIA m2 continues to be the best method to add DriverPacks

I have a thought... try this...

edit DP_Install_Tool.cmd and add this line  "%SystemDrive%\DSPdsblr.exe"

IE

Echo. & Echo. & Echo Running the MicroSoft Driver Pack Installer now !
Echo The progress window is minimized to the task bar & Echo. & Echo.
%SystemDrive%\DSPdsblr.exe
Start "MicroSoft Driver Pack Installer Tool Running" /wait /separate /realtime /min CMD /C DPInst.exe /c /s /sh /lm /el /sa

let me know if that works!

Well, that would be a problem in itself considering your HWID is not supported in DriverPack Graphics A. wink  It's only supported in DriverPack Graphics C.

Jeff, can it really be that simple? o_o

Re: Thinkpad Sound and Graphics BASE

@mr_smartepants: i don't think so, as at one point i've also tried with b and c ;)

@overflow: tested with your extra line, and it stuck itself at that:

Re: Thinkpad Sound and Graphics BASE

can you verify that "%SystemDrive%\DSPdsblr.exe" exists?
( I am assumeing that is the file not found issue )

I assumed that you were useing M2... Did I assume correctly?

Re: Thinkpad Sound and Graphics BASE

@overflow: you're right on both guesses, file not found because it didn't exist, and sad disc was done with m2. do you think that the fact that this file didn't exist was a factor in the failure to install drivers via sad disc or jaws tool?

EDIT: i now support your claim that slipstreaming drivers via m2 is best method to work with driverpacks. having just done so. imagine my face, the typical "yay, computer problems at last solved!," kind of reaction.

best for you,

Re: Thinkpad Sound and Graphics BASE

there should be DSPdsblr.exe, mute.exe, makePNF.exe an INI file for each pack and DPsFnshr.exe with some other files too... all in %systemdrive% (obviously there should be a folder named \D\ with the extracted packs too! wink

I also assumed that you were useing an unmodified BASE generated SAD folder...
other than the changes mr_smartepants and I suggested.

Please remember the finisher removes all these files so you must look before the finisher runs wink
IE while the file not found error is displayed tongue

I belive your prloblem is related to these files not being extracted properly. I apologize that i can not figure out why they are not being extracted based on the info provided. however the fact that they are not is a clue that perhaps you can use to troubleshoot further and report. If you think of anything you changed or that is unique to this machine please let us know so we may be of assistance!
