Topic: [Beginner] nlite and driverpacks and xp sp3!

hi! im a beginner in this driverpack and nlite stuff!

what I want to do:
to burn a customized xp with driver packs integrated using nlite!

the problem:
I have downloaded and extracted all the driver packs from driverpacks.net
in the driver packs there are many diffrent kind of files ex: .INF .sys .CAR ... and many folder called A C D etc

- Click on the 'insert' tab to search for drivers to install, make sure that you open .inf files only

question:
which inf files should I insert in nlite? should I search all the inf files from the driverpacks folder and then copy all of them to another folder and insert all of them?
***I want to integrate all the drivers into my xp!

you can't...

not useing nLite anyway...

when you are done with nlite (and any other changes you wish to make)

then follow the directions contained in the dp_base tutorial in my signature...

I do this by clicking on "INSERT" then choosing a 'driver' directory...driverpack makes a 'D' directory by default and this will do.  Nlite will then traverse all the subdirectories and find the drivers to integrate.

However....

Nlite and all the driver packs are not necessarily compatible.  I have found the chipset pack causes nlite to throw an error and oops and the mass storage pack when nlited causes my machines (many and varied models and makes) to freeze at around the 12 minutes mark during unattended install.  In both cases I simply extract the manufacturers driver (without installing), plonk those files in my own directory under 'D' (as above) and let nlite use those files instead...its a bit clunky but works really well (dont use the chipset or mass storage driverpacks at all in this case).

Bear in mind that you will need to use a dvd media as your install source if you push more then just a couple of driver packs into your XP install.  I'm using graphics B and audio B along with LAN.  Once the machine is up and running using the new SAD option that the recent beta of driverBase will install all the missing stuff without any fuss - fantastic!

I think he pretty much just agreed with me...

you cant integrate the DriverPacks with nlite...    not and have all the drivers work correctly
(He clearly states this in his post)


If you have a certain machine and you want to integrate just the drivers for that machine - then use nlite.


the DriverPacks are meant to compliment nLite if you simply use them by integrateing with DriverPacks BASE... that works the best !
and you don't have to do anything manually at all wink
and it doesn't take up a huge amount of space either.

If you were going to use the SAD option there is absolutely no reason to add them with nLite...
(that would be redundant - why would we want to install them twice?)
if you are going to use SAD you would either

integrate mass storage with base
or
integrate only your needed (OEM textmode) mass storage drivers with nlite

then run SAD (to be renamed SoFI) whenever you wish
