Topic: LAN NVIDIA.

nvidia LAN drivers? Can old win over new? Why is there an INI?

I put together a file with ALL the nvidia LAN drivers, and all of you are free to sort it out.
-------
what is in it?

the drivers, tools, and a description of what I downloaded.
The NAM setup files are NOT in it
-----------------------
NVIDIA NETWORK 2705

this is an upload on my skydrive...  I added an excell sheet, tools to scan HWIDS from the drivers in there (and any other pack), and txt on what was done for the released LAN 805.3

Re: LAN NVIDIA.

you know, the txt with the NVidia descriptions and the homework on it should (again) be in forum.

I know google loved it before I hid it in the download.

Re: LAN NVIDIA.

WELL,
you have all the files right there, an excell sheet, an outline on the single dupes and on the paired dupes, and I want to know how we can make the right one win in your case.

You can download the files from skydrive and fix your issue.

But, what if we have to make a driver with exact same HWIDS (paired) also win in the other case.
(When the OLD one does not support the new, we want to know. BUT.. listen to this. This is important to all of us.
When the new driver does not support the OLD pair yet the old driver supports the HWID pair also seen in the newer on NEWER hardware, then we have a working solution..)

in your case, the driver from 9.53 or 7.15 wins? why not 6.86?
(the versioning numbers in NV are a mess.. read the internal dates, release dates,  and versions and internal versions. it is a puzzle)

(HWID 0057 was a paired set.)
I figure, better NO match than a BSOD.

It sure sounds like you have a newer driver not working on an older piece of hardware.
I am all ears now.
(the full txt should appear again.. but the board may suffer because it is a long txt)

Re: LAN NVIDIA.

for google sake, let's post it again.
I will say this.. You will eventually spot the problems we created while we tried to solve a puzzle in this match up.
- - - - -
NVIDIA homework on LAN
(could still have errors and could have wrong ideas.)

<<<<< <<<<< means there is a secondary match with the corresponding controller for the PCI HWID in the same driver

example
{1a3e09be-1e45-494b-9174-d7385b45bbf5}\NVNET_DEV07DC
PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_07DC  <<<<< <<<<  because 07DC matches (as seen in 16.08)

When a combination like this is in a driverset, it should be compared to other combinations
In the ideal world, the newer combo has to be kept.

I think that when a PCI has no matching NVNET_DEV line in same driver set, and in an other you see it has, the combination should not be broken.
I also think that in such case, the PCI HWID without NVNET_DEV match must be commented.

You will find PCI HWIDS like PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_XXXX without such ..bbf5}\NVNET_DEVXXXX tied to it.
And you will also find ..bbf5}\NVNET_DEVXXXX lines with NO PCI\VEN.. tied to it.

PLEASE always try to find the newest possible combos.

I will repeat, these findings are not the bible.
I had to eyeball. I was using techniques and some common sense just like any good Watson would.
I never said Watson was equal to Holmes. Holmes is a nobody. He has to explain the puzzle. Watson solves no puzzle without getting clues.

(There is no such thing as Hari Seldon.)

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: LAN NVIDIA.

Hari and Watson despaired.

in line edits mess up topic consistency.
let us close this.
