Topic: DriverPacks and Backup Exec System Restore

Hi everyone,

Lately I've been attempting to restore an image of a non-raid (ie; single IDE drive) to our new server at work which has a SATA RAID by using Backup Exec System Restore. BESR is meant to be able to restore to another machine of different hardware and prompt you for drivers.

The problem I'm having is that I need to load drivers for the raid controller BEFORE BESR loads (I can load them fine once in the GUI) in order to do my restore properly.

Is there any way I can integrate a DriverPack with my BESR boot disc?

Re: DriverPacks and Backup Exec System Restore

Hi
I do not have the backup excec suite, but googled some.
https://forums.symantec.com/syment/boar … ge.id=2821
(I know it says 64 bit)

It seems you have to populate the driver folder \DDB sub-directory with the drivers you want added.
I have NO idea what they already include "in-the-box" and do not know which driver you want to add, but I hope it helps.
The few articles I read claim it is easy.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

no problem

use steps one and four...

since your original machine is useing standard IDE your already half way there.
in most cases setting the driver to standard IDE before shutting down / imageing
is the forgotten and most important step

Re: DriverPacks and Backup Exec System Restore

Thanks for the help.

I have a few quick questions though, firstly; There's no 'Windows Source' for the recovery I'm trying to do, so I'm not sure if I can use your suggestion OverFlow.

Secondly, It appears you're right Jaak. There IS a DBB folder that seems to be full of drivers. And strangely enough, it appears as though it may already contain the drivers I require.

The driver I am trying to install is an nVidia nForce 4 driver.

I hear this is a particularly tricky driver to work with.

The DDB folder already contains TWO nForce folders, one for a plain nForce controller, the other for an nForce RAID controller.

Is there any information anyone can shed on what may be the problem and how I can go about fixing this?

So far, the only idea I can come up with is to restore it onto an IDE drive, install all the drivers for the changed hardware, including the RAID controller, create a new image from this machine and restore it to the SATA RAID. This seems pretty long winded and time consuming, so if I can get BESR to recognise the RAID that'd be great.

Thanks very much.

yes what you said.

I thought the old machine was still running in which case half the work is done already.

Re: DriverPacks and Backup Exec System Restore

Unfortunately, the reason why we're restoring to other hardware is because the original machine has failed.

Many thanks for your help. =]

OverFlow, you're amazing!

That tool sounds like it'll do the trick. I'll give it a shot later this afternoon. Many thanks!

Re: DriverPacks and Backup Exec System Restore

OverFlow, as a follow up to this, I've found:

http://users.pandora.be/jtdoom/basetute … lpFile.htm

If I were to make a BartPE disc and slipstream the DriverPack into it, would this fix my problem? (Ie; would it allow me to install the Mass Storage controllers to my failed boot drive?)

On a side note, I'm still trying to get my head around BartPE and OfflineSysPrep, so I haven't given it a shot yet (And I've been pretty busy)

Thanks,

Re: DriverPacks and Backup Exec System Restore

bartpe is windows on a read only disk - if youuse windows 2003 as your source for your PE build then you will be able to access all of your servers partitions and edit files wink. one of our members has been working on off line sysprep for bartpe.

the easiest way to get started with bartpe is to use UBCD4win
UBCD4win is based on bartpe however it includes hundreds of useful plugins without haveing to go and get them all and install them.
(it even includes minesweeper) you can then add galepos tool to your ubcd4win cd and reset your driver on the server with his offlinesysprep tool and you should be off to the races...

it may be that two of the included tools may help too...
