Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

Using Nlite 1.4.1 I did the following (still did not work)

Slipstream SP3

Integrate KB835221

Driverpacks

Still have the same error when installing XP that 5 files are missing, all of them HDA

Found some talk on the net that Microsoft has integrated KB888111 in SP3 but it is new and not working
If you you try to install 888111 after Windows is loaded it says a later version is already loaded.
(Have to uninstall the "unknown PCI" first)
Hope they fix it in the final, I will not hold my breath. I think they will issue a separate KB to fix the problem.
Many people are saying the present SP3 (8344) has gone gold. I will ask my Microsoft rep on Monday.

Seems as if the people on the forums work 22½/7/365, Microsoft only work 9-5 Mon-Fri.

Sorry to keep running this by you guys, but I hate to have something beat me.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

could you try useing RVM to integrate SP3 and let us know if that fixes it?

(it is under the "file" menu "SlipStream ServicePack")

It may be that Ryan VM's Integrator handles this automagicaly and may end the problem with no further action.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

I have discovered that base already detects SP3 with its current routines. (check the base log after running on an XP SP3 source)

Sorry to say I had the same problem.
Everything seemed to go OK with RVM.

During the Windows install the same 5 files (hdaprop.dll, hdashcut.exe, hdaudbus.inf, hdaudbus.sys, hdaudio.inf, hdaudio.sys, hdaudres.dll were missing)

During the Driverpack slipstream I got the following message:

Warning:   Could not slipstream KB888111 because Service Pack 1 or 2 isn't installed !

My Microsoft rep said he had heard that 3844 has gone Gold other than 1 x very minor bug, I told him about the 2nd bug i.e. KB888111.

I will keep trying some other thing and will let you guys know.

Stu

Thanks for all the suggestions.

did you use RVM to integrate the RVM RVMUpdatePack2.1.11 (or other RVMAddons_)as well or just for the slipstream of SP3

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

I am getting the same error:

nLite SP3
nLite 888111 addon
got the missing files error

noticed that files weren't copied properly... so I manually copied the files, made sure txtsetup, dosnet, svcpack and sysoc all reflected the correct files as noted in the entries.ini of the 888111 addon...

tried slipstreaming and got the error 888111 and no SP1 or SP2 detected error, but it seemed to finish... so I burned the disk and tried an install, it seemed to install fine, but after installation complete it goes into infinite reboot after about half a second of the Windows XP loading logo screen...

what other info do you need to know so I can be of more help?

OverFlow wrote:

Is this necessary before integrating SP3? or do you think this would take care of the 888111 integration issue if we were to do the RVM update prior to slipping SP3? and eliminate the need for the 888111 addon?

OverFlow wrote:

ok used a clean sp2 source and slipped rvm update via nlite then when i tried to slip sp3 using nlite it requires you to remove previous updates to apply sp3 so you're back to not having 888111... or did you have other reasoning for asking about this?

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

anyone hashchecked the files in that kb888111 with the slipstreamed sp3 source?

and you cant integrate them correctly because of (I think, not tested):
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP3\KB893803","PackageName",0x0,"Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803)"
HKLM,"SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP3\KB893803","Description",0x0,"Windows Installer 3.1 (KB893803)"

its not that kb888111, but I hope you see what I mean, the SP3 part....
service pack 3 probely wont accept that anymore.
anyone can link me to that fix, then I will take a look?
hmm only English sp3 rc1 available, well then I need to download a English xp first.
or am I crazy?.....
dont know:P
love my company's msdn subscription, always a fast download smile
also got the hotfix:)

sorry cant even try, got some problem, all of the serials we own cant be used, gaus ing blacklisted, or it got something to do if it is language depended.. :S

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

Official info from MS site (this is a pdf)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta … layLang=en

KB artical about SP3 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936929

Article ID : 936929
Last Review : October 24, 2007
Revision : 1.0

SUMMARY
This Microsoft Knowledge Base article will be updated to include the Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) release notes when Windows XP SP3 is released. Release notes are not available for the Windows XP SP3 beta release.

the link in the above Post marked "Public Release" is in fact not a public release... reference it's KB#
Article ID : 936929
Last Review : October 24, 2007
Revision : 1.0
No formal product support is available from Microsoft for this beta product.

The link only works because the long number after the filename is there
(this is someones windows Live ID member number and they are obviously a MSDN subscriber or mvp)
(very bad boy - posting back doors)
there is no way for the average person to go to MS and download SP3.

Everyone has clearly established it is broken. MS don't support it - I can't either. Its that Simple

SP3 does not add any new features it is simply a Rollup of existing patches. That being the case this is a very low priority item. do what we have been doing use SP2 and use RVM integrator or nLIte to add the needed remaining updates. Driverpacks detects and is aware of SP3 already.

If you cant get SP3 to work tell MS that is the point of a RC (Release Candidate) to eliminate bugs.

Two things here...

1 don't tell them that the driverpacks guys sent ya and don't use RVM nLite or DriverPacks on your install
if you wish to report a bug. Do a CLEAN fully attended install (no winnt.sif) for your reporting.
MS shut down AutoPatcher over something just like this. I would like to see us stay alive.

2 don't report it if you are not able to get the file through legitimate means.
(the link above is a back door, not a legitimate means, the link should be removed, post updated)
Go to MS and go to downloads and see if you can get it without logging in.
If you have to log in as a MSDN member then it ain't public is it?
If it aint public it's beta and if its beta it not supported.

This RC is broken - that everyone agrees on - so don't use SP3 till it gets fixed

better luck with the next RC

Jeff

additional note... re midiboys comment about bugs

Since SP3 adds no new features (it is simply a rollup package) there won't be any bugs.
We have all already installed all of the packages that will make up sp3 and have thoroghly tested them with no problems.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

Hi Overflow !

IT ain´t true that SP3 is simply a rollup of past patches, otherwise they would call it a rollup patch :-) I can  tell you 2 new features out of my memory that SP3 brings to XP: NAP (Network access protection) with Server 2008 and they removed the need to use a serial to install XP (similar to vista).

I am sure there are more new features but I can´t remember now.

:-) Anyway, no hard feelings, didn´t want to start a war over this. By the way: SP3 is officially Available to the public. You can download the SP3 from numerous sources for instance chip online. However, Overflow is right that there is no support from MS.

Bye,
Alex

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

please read the articals i referenced especialy the pdf - obviously you didn't -

the artical from MS says and i Quote

"Microsoft is not adding significant functionality from newer versions of Windows, such as Windows Vista, to Windows XP through XP SP3. For instance, Windows XP SP3 does not include Windows Internet Explorer 7, although Windows XP SP3 does include updates to both Internet Explorer 6 and Internet Explorer 7, and it will update whichever version is installed on the computer. One notable exception is that, SP3 does include Network Access Protection (NAP) to help organizations that use Windows XP to take advantage of new features in the Windows Server® 2008 operating system."

two new features
NAP (requires 2008 server which is Beta [RC is still beta])
Black hole router (who cares i dont need my os to tell me a router is broken)

which makes it a rollup package as i said...

you are wrong it is NOT PUBLIC if you cant get it from MS directly.
A public release is available through legitimate channels IE directly to the PUBLIC from MS.

Yes it does add NAP - and that is helpful because we want to make our networks non functional?
And how many people are running their networks on 2008 beta servers? Shame on them if they are...
Beta and RC (release candidates) are for test enviroments only not for production application / end users.

no hard feelings at all  you are just wrong wink

PS it ain't a war if you dont have any ammo...

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

Hi Overflow,

And how many people are running their networks on 2008 beta servers? Shame on them if they are..

I was told that the whole Microsoft domain is already running on IE7 (W2K8) servers :-)

Anyway,

It is up to debate wether SP3 will be a SP or a rollup. even if your are right in your intepretation, microsoft does call it a Servicepack so technically YOU are wrong. However, I agree with you that it is not the most complete SP I have seen :-)

Have a nice day, Overflow ! :-)
Bye,
Alex

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

O.K. so staying away from SP3 till it's fixed and public... thanks guys!

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

Wow, this whole thing is like a can of worms.

Overflow is correct, it's not a true "Public Release" as you have to dig down deep on the MS web site.
Although my MS rep says it has gone gold. (edit: Build 3264 fixes the minor bug)

I will use SP3 in my slipstreamed XP DVD and use the workaround I described in an earlier post, it works well and only takes an extra minute.

If I find any fix I will report back.

Getting to close to the holidays to argue.
I suggest we drop this until the New Year.

To all the programmers and the testing team who work so hard:

A very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

if they pop out a public release that includes  888111 think it will just work without any furthur action.
if an upgrade for 888111 come out as a patch for SP3 half the work is done Base already recognizes sp3 in its current release.
should be a quick add on to the current 888111 module / code. lets see what they do. in the time being RVM is still earning his keep.

Re: [IMPLEMENTED] Windows XP Service Pack 3 Support

My personal plan is that the next few systems builds I do will be with modified and patched SP2 (nlite, driverpacks, and loads of RyanVM stuff).  Anything I do after after 01 Jan 08 will be using XP SP3 as a base.

After all, I have an E6850, 2 Gb ram, and an Intel DG33TL sitting here waiting to chug along.........

New SP3 (v3264) technet link (with publicly availiable download!)

Page for public download:

This is the self-extracting executable that contains the update package for Windows® XP Service Pack 3. Windows® XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) includes all previously released updates for the operating system. This update also includes a small number of new functionalities, which do not significantly change customers’ experience with the operating system.
