Had my fist success on this issue... after checking the logs I decided to try a few things with the HID pack:
1st I deleted all the non ALPS and Synaptics drivers/folders
2nd I deleted the ini file
3rd I updated the Synaptics driver to 14.0.3.0
4th I created a new SAD and ran it against the the current install and it updated the driver correctly

EDIT:
I updated the A3 driver
Updated from 7.1.102.7 08/24/2007 to 7.4.102.102 03/06/2009 and tested the SAD again but before I did I reverted back to the MS PS2 driver and made sure all the programs were uninstalled...  I noticed that both the TouchPad and the Synaptics programs were installed and this confused me... further I noticed that Dell actually provides a driver that is an ALPS v7.4.102.102... so why does the Synaptics install? I am confused again...

I just ran the SAD on a Vostro 1520 and the mouse driver shows as a "Logicool" I posted the logs etc here:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=80f1 … 60c1ce7296

This is going to seem like an odd one so let me try and explain... I have about 15 of these systems and we blew them all out and installed a clean setup with the latest packs.  All seemed fine except for a modem driver so at the time we manually updated the driver and put them in production. We very quickly noticed their was no bluetooth installed and the REALLY ODD problem was that although the WLAN driver was installed we had some connection problems and the light that shows the WLAN as being on of off never worked.

We spoke with actual Dell Engineers and they had us ship a system back to them and they worked on it themselves and reported back to us the following:
We needed to install the Dell VISTA BlueTooth driver and the WLAN driver in order to work... when we do all 15 systems work fine
Bluetooth:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloa … eid=265039
WLAN:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloa … eid=267865

Here are the logs. HWID's etc including pics and logs after we installed the additional drivers:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=80f1 … 2bd5edc68e

IDT High Definition Audio Codec didn't install properly... see HWID's and logs:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=80f1 … e37b913e74

OK.. I have struggled with D630's and D400's to get the touchpad drivers installed properly but I still can't get it worked out... and now I also tried E6500 and V1520 with the same failure on the touchpads... can anyone help shed some light on this???

This whole D630 touchpad issue is driving me nuts... I did a clean install yesterday and the everything goes great except the touchpad... in device manager it shows as PS2 and their is no touchpad applet BUT the folder is installed in Programs and the add/remove shows both the driver and the program installed... aslo when I went to update the driver it said the same driver was installed and do I want to continue... when I said yes the driver installed but after the damn buttons don't work at all...

EDIT: I am using DP_HID_wnt5_x86-32_90813

Notice the driver in I5 IS Rejected verses the installed one...

According to that I5 is NOT a better driver for your hardware...

It selected the BEST MATCH for your PC big_smile.

The 'best match' is not always the the 'newest'... OR... Newer is not always better wink.

Testing the theory...

Install the I5 driver manually.
Reboot.
Run SAD.
Reboot.
See if the driver is reverted.
Report.

We blew the system out and started a fresh install but since it has Mass Storage problems we still may be able to work this one out. The new install has errors so here are the logs etc:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=80f1 … e37b913e74

I will now try to install I5 manually and the the SAD to see what happens and report back.

EDIT:
I extracted the I5 folder and then used Device Manager to update the driver but it doesn't find a driver so now I'm stumped! I just tried the same method for the I4 folder and it didn't work either... what am I doing wrong?

EDIT2:
I just ran the SAD on this system and it did not update either the Mass Storage driver or the IDT HDA Codec... I have included the updated logs etc below:

Looking into it more, there's an overlap in the DriverPacks for your board.  This mobo has combined graphics/chipset on the board which requires the Nforce all-in-one package here.  The Nforce package does NOT install PhysX by default.
This is a problem for the DriverPacks team because the nforce drivers are version-matched for the other components as well (LAN, audio, chipset, graphics, etc).  Any mismatch within DriverPacks will cause problems during install.
I'm not sure how we're going to solve this one.  But you can build a custom dp yourself with only the nforce driver package (not too hard).  I may make one for you over the weekend just to test.
Also, Nvidia released new 191.66 Quadro drivers that will NOT make it into the 9.11 release, but I'll work on a nightly for testing.

Let me know if you want me to test anything on this system this weekend... I am home and will only have access to it until Sunday night... I brought some other laptops home and will test those and I also have an older NV4 system that I may get to test

Both

Again based on looking at your output of the HWIDs tool the driver looks like it is /was installed correctly...

What is your indication that it was not? (did you install the driver manually before you ran the HWIDs tool?)

This is odd... I have a an exclamation in device manger on the smart card adapter and the HWID was run BEFORE I updated the driver

OverFlow wrote:

the fact that it installs manualy but not from sad indicates a BUG in the DPInst.exe program or its switch settings.

I am running all my installs now with a 2 step process 1st for all main packs and 2nd for all the 3rd party packs

I decided to redo the entire install so I just finished and got the same results. I also decided to open a MediaFire account and upload all the logs, screenshots etc that may be of use to you for this D400 install. If this is not the way you would like me to do this please let me know and I will follow you're lead... just trying to help as much as possible

unsigned drivers should still install, based on the DPInst settings we use.

Can you extract \d\3\x\ti\ and install that driver manually? (from device manager)
Does that also fail?

PS in your HWIDs list it looks like it is installed correctly?

Once extracted the driver installed perfectly... but I'm not sure what thats telling me about the pack and whats going wrong... still learning wink

Yes SAD should update PnP mass storage drivers...

I wonder if SAD works from safe mode?

I re-ran the SAD in safe mode and yes it does run but no it did not update the drivers... it is still using the 8.6.0.1007 driver...

I'm hoping this isn't as dumb a question as I think but I have a Vostro 1520 laptop that I ran a SAD disk to try and update the Intel Matrix Storage drivers but it doesn't update.... will a SAD disk update mass storage drivers?

It's been quite awhile since I last attempted to resolve the ALPS and TouchPad driver problems with the D630 and the D400 bit I am at it once again smile

Since I have been working on many other driverpack issues over the last month my installation method has changed but I have been having great success so far with a few exceptions that I am still working on. Last week I tried a D630 again without my personal 3rd party pack(which also never worked) and my results have been consistent: the default MS Mouse driver always loads and the TPad never loads. I would like to help resolve this properly in this pack as opposed to making an additional 3rd party pack as a work around so I will try some controlled installs today and tomorrow. I will be happy to provide logs etc.
