Please don't consider this your best option, because I'm new to driverpacks and don't know anything about sysprep... But it sounds to me that using the DPINST.exe and DPInst.xml as explained at http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 806#p17806 might do what you are looking for.  There is more info at http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic. … 805#p17805 and a more automated way of doing it using Warm Snow's method at http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?pid=17805 .

I'm only offering this info for you to look into until the experts reply.  They are pretty busy.   wink

Oops!  Wait, I think I might have misunderstood you.  I gave info about using the driverpacks.  I'm not sure if you are talking about using driverpacks or just assembling the drivers for your PC.  If that is what you mean then http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/33/ might help.  Especially the Drivers From CD section found at http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/view/web/35/ .

I hope that helps.

LMAO!  Now that I re-read this, it makes me laugh the way you worded it.  Hehe.  That may be true, but to a n00b like me, I didn't see anything that tells me that GUIRunOnce runs after RunOnceEx.  I was just basically trying to say that it might save other n00bs like me a lot of time if the tutorials warned about what would happen if you reboot at the end of RunOnceEx.  I forget which forum I got the shutdown in cleanup.cmd from, but I mostly used DP Finisher in GUIRunOnce because the tutorial didn't say anything about the pros and cons and GUIRunOnce was the default, so I figured it must be the safest option.  Yeah, I should know what happens when I assume something.  wink

I gotta say that I'm so thankful that this unattended community is a very helpful bunch.  Everyone seems to help as much as they can and I hope I can give back by helping others.  Oh, speaking of which, when I researched the desktop.ini error, I did not see anything that states that rebooting before DP Finisher finishes could be the cause of the desktop.ini error, but that is exactly what caused it for me.  Also, I saw a lot of messages of people making cleanup routines to cleanup DP files in their root folder instead of trying to figure out why DP Finisher did not finish.  I'm not sure but am wondering if at least some were because of the same reason as me.  After all, I did get the shutdown found in cleanup.cmd, run at the end of RunOnceEx from one of the forums in this unattended install community.  I hope this helps someone.  wink

I'm not sure I understand.  It sounds like both Wlan 802 and 803 have problems.  I'm currently using Wlan 802 with base 7052.  I was thinking of switching to base 801RC2 to fix KTD saving to C:\Windows\Driver Packs\D\D\ (using M2).  Should I wait for the next version of Wlan to be released or use Wlan 803?

Ahh, thank you.  Thank you for both changing the title and for answering my question.  I will try that in next test.

OK, I found the problem and Overflow was correct.  It was my firewall (Agnitum Outpost).  I had to create a special rule to not block referrers for this website.  Disabling the firewall didn't help.  I would have identified the culprit much sooner if it did.  This same thing stopped me from getting some files from RogueSpears website also.  Funny that I never had this problem before.

So, what firewall do you use Seiba?

Hi
a more informative tute is linked to in my sig (and overFlow's, and Helmi's).
It mentions some 'peculiarities' we recently discovered.

Although I see the extra info in that tutorial, I still don't see anything that talks about how the DP cleanup/KTD is started or more importantly, how I can do a reboot after it is done.

Jaak wrote:

I will assume you built your source with DriverPacks as last stage.

Yes, I did run DP as my last stage (thanks to tutorials).

Jaak wrote:

We should see logs of each stage, and the last stage in building a source should be DriverPacks.

I'm afraid I didn't keep the logs.  Its very reproducable tho... Just enable KTD and have RunOnceEX reboot.  Hmm, I'm not sure if this matters, but I have RunOnceEx run a CleanUp.cmd that has:

   cmdow @ /HID
   shutdown.exe -r -f -t 60 -c "Windows XP will now restart in 1 minute..."
DEL ***some stuff here for cleanup***
   EXIT

This at the very least will leave stuff in C:\D\ and not finish copying KTD to C:\Windows\DriverPacks\ and sometimes give a desktop.ini error.

Sorry, but I'm a bit too busy ATM to mess with it more.  Maybe in a week or 2.  Removing the reboot in cleanup.cmd eliminates all these problems.  I watched the install and saw the DriverPacks starting to do things right after the RunOnceEx ended (which was during the shutdown.exe countdown timer.

I hope this helps someone.

I had a different (but similar) problem with files from the \I386\asms\ folder.  Most of the info I found out about it was blaming corrupt files, the quality of the CD burn, or the CD drive itself.  But, ultimately, I fixed my problem by switching from Virtual PC 2007 to VMware Workstation 6.  I had errors with most of my installs with Virtual PC, but not a single problem with VMware.  I can't be sure you are having the same problem as me since many people said that they never had that problem with Virtual PC.

I posted tooooo soooooon.  I just tested with DP Finisher set to RunOnceEx and it still happens.  KTD runs after all the RunOnceEx is done, but I haven't read anything about how to run things after that point.  I don't see how KTD is set to start.

Hmm, I need to reboot after KTD is done, but I don't see how to do that.  Any ideas?

Original title: Request adding warning to Tutorial
mr_smartepants tutorial at  was a big help to me, but I'm requesting a change so others don't have the same problem I ran across.
(Sorry, I could not figure out how to embed the link). {like that. edit~jeff}

OK, if you have:
1) DP Finisher set to GUIRunOnce and
2) KTD enabled and
3) Have a reboot set at the end of RunOnceEx (I do in a Cleanup.cmd I found on one of the forums).

Then the reboot will happen before KTD is finished, so:
1) KTD not finished in %SystemRoot%\DriverPacks and
2)  the driverpacks will not be cleaned up and
3) I got the desktop.ini error I see some other people have gotten.

I did a few searches and did not see anything about this.  If this was already posted then I'm sorry.  :-S

Yeah, I had  the same problem.  I got around it by re-installing WinXP.  I thought it ironic that I had to re-install Windows to download the files I needed to make the install disk I'm working on.  <grin>

Well, anyway, now I'm getting the leech warning again.  It must be a conflict with some program I installed since I downloaded the files a couple of weeks ago.  This should be fun tracking down.  I'll let you know if I figure out which program it is.

Very interesting.... I would have never thought to ENABLE a proxy to fix a leeching warning.  I'll have to remember that for future use.  Thank you very much for that info, but I'm not going to waste any more time troubleshooting it since I got the downloads another way and I'm going to be re-installing WinXP soon.

Ed

Yes, I tried IE v6 and FireFox v2.  I got around this problem by installing windows on another drive and it worked there.  I must have something corrupt, but I doubted that since I haven't had problems on any other website.

Kinda ironic... I had to re-install Windows in order to download the drivers I needed for the Windows install disk I'm working on.  wink

OK... Wow... I was kinda hoping there was a problem with the links.  Well, I took your advice, disabled NOD32 Antivirus, disabled Outpost firewall, even configured router for my PC to be DMZ host, and still the same thing.  OMG, I just bypassed my router completely and it still doesn't work.  I even changed IE to use low security and added this site to the trusted sites.

I give up!  Is there any other site that has these files?

I did try to replace the GDIPLUS.MAN as per instructions from google searches.  It didn't help.  And yes, was using ISO's, which only confused me since most explainations for that problem were blaming CD or CD-ROM problems.  Also, I can open the problem files with a notepad and it looked fine.  And, the same ISO's worked fine with VMware.  Another interesting thing is that of the 3 or 4 different files (different file in different ISO's), some were compressed and some were not.

Ed

I tried Virtual PC 2007 first (because it was free), but half of my WinXP builds would get an error in a file in a sub-folder of \I386\ASMS\ that would stop the install.  It wasn't always the same file, but GDIPLUS.MAN was one of them.  I tried VMware with the same ISO's and it NEVER had that error.

It's really too bad... I liked the video driver support better on Virtual PC.

Ed

Hello all,

I can't seem to get any of these downloads to work.  I tried using IE v6 and FireFox v2 with no download manager.  I'm hoping I don't need to upgrade IE to v7.

Here is an example:

I go to http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/ and then click on DriverPack Chipset and then Proceed to download page and then Download DriverPack Chipset! (url=http://driverpacks.mirror.thesneaky.com/DP_Chipset_wnt5_x86-32_7101.7z).  That only brings me to http://driverpacks.net/leechwarning.php.

I tried clearing the browser cache and registering/logging into the forum before downloading in case that was required.  The only other thing I can think of is rebooting, which I'll try when I can finish up some of this stuff running here.

Oh, and thanks for all your hard work on these driver packs.  I can only imagine how much time you must have spent on all this.
