@Jaak

Hope things are well I have a question about where we are at with the test packs. Moving forward do we plan on using these and if so what are we going to do when there are updated drivers like is the case right now with R/1 and R/2 in the new Sound A that muiz just released? R/1 has all kinds of HWIDS  that looks like you had removed there is also work that is going on with the Sound Blaster cards, I have ordered some of the different sound blaster cards so I can help test. It seems that we have all kinds of test packs being worked on by different people which is excellent but I was just wondering  do you all have a common goal if so what is it should I stop using the test pack with the HWIDS removed and start use the one that muiz, mr_smartepants and other are working on? Just looking for some direction also do we plan on implementing the fix for the SoundMAX control panel that I tested it works and fixes the error when running the directX diag sound test.

Thanks,
dolivas

mr_smartepants

ATI released 7.11 catalyst you probably already know but I am eagerly waiting for this update.

Thanks again for the work on this pack.....

I get this error when trying to upload some modified packs:

552 Transfer aborted. Disk quota exceeded.

Hi and welcome,

It has already been added by Debugger in this test pack.

Oh and please post back to the thread you downloaded it from so they know it works. I am 100% sure it will seeing how your hwid was added.

@Jaak

I totally agree with you the removals were necessary and need to stay. Yes some were removed that probably needed to stay but for the most part I would bet it did more good then bad. We need to continue to work together when there are problems we need people to post the log files so that fixes can be implemented and then tested and reported back to us. I know the work you have done has helped me and I would like to think the fixes that I have offered to others has helped them. The bottom line is nothing is going to be perfect but if everyone contributes information we can fix a majority of the problems.

Thanks again
Jaak, Overflow, Debugger and the others who have help me in the last month,

You need to add the hwid to this inf file in Sound Pack B (The nightly build)

D/S/SI/1/SIS7102.inf (add this %SiS7012.DeviceDesc%=ECS_HWSPDIF,         PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7012&SUBSYS_18151019 )

The drivers in that directory are the same as what you posted they just do not have your hwid in them also the board looks like an ECS motherboard correct?

After you add the hwid and re compress the file give it a test and report back if it fixed the problem.

Thanks,
dolivas

Hi Jaak hope things are well I have a question about another hwid you removed.

This hwid was in this folder D/S/SM/A/3/0 (Sound B) and was in this inf file (smwdmSIS.inf) PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7012&SUBSYS_810D1043 and this is where it should have stayed it looks like you deleted it and keep the one in (Sound A) D/S/R/1/ (alcxauiz.inf) This hwid is for an ASUS A7S8X-MX motherboard and is in folder 13 of the drivers Debugger posted.

@Jaak & Vorenus

Here is what I found looks like we still have a hwid dup with two inf files, What I think needs to be done to fix this is to update the drivers with what Vorenus has provide a link to.

1) The drivers Vorenus provided a link to need to replace the drivers in D/S/S/D/2 (These are the same drivers Vorenus linked to just older) Once this is done the driver version will be at 5.10.00.4255

2) We need to remove the hwid from this inf because it is a dup of the one above it would explain why it was the selected driver as it is newer but not for this hwid. D/S/S/C/stac97.inf (Remove hwid from this inf)

Seeing how I am still learning we might be able to just replace the drivers with the newer ones and they would be select because they are newer but I think we want to eliminate the dups right Jaak?

I can do this if Jaak does not have time a Vorenus would like to test it.

Thanks,
dolivas

Hi Jaak & Overflow sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Overflow is correct that is how I got it to work here is what I used in the ini file. Overflow I was following you instructions to the tee and that was the problem in the beginning I was using exc_1_command1    = "%DPSROOT%\D\S\S\U\Setup.exe" /s /f1"%DPSROOT%\D\S\S\U\Setup.iss" instead of using this for the directory layout ( \D\S\SM\A\3\ ) I am going to do another build this evening with this (exc_1_command1    = "%DPSROOT%\D\S\SM\A\3\Setup.exe" /s /f1"%DPSROOT%\D\S\SM\A\3\Setup.iss") to make sure it still work and I have also removed some files that are not need I am going to ty and remove some other files I think are not need to slim it down some more also do we need all the language files in the control panel install?

[SM-A-3]
; REQUIRED
exc_count        = 1
; OPTIONAL
exc_1_tagFiles    = 1
exc_1_tagFile1    = "%SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\smwdm.sys"
exc_1_+hwids    = 0
exc_1_-hwids    = 0
exc_1_+infFiles    = 1
exc_1_+infFile1    = "%DPSROOT%\D\S\SM\A\3\*.inf"
exc_1_-infFiles    = 0
exc_1_commands    = 1
exc_1_command1    = "%DPSROOT%\D\S\SM\A\3\Setup.exe /S"

We can share the soure code with DriverPacks to improve the driver’s compatibility. It is the better way to slove the problem in my mind?

realhyg

The fix for your problem is to add the HWID back in to the Driver Pack B. I did a quick look and it looks like Jaak removed yours from B and added it to A which I don't think he should have done. Once you do a test with the changes I suggest and if it work right please let Jaak know so he can update his work on the nightly. Here is what needs to be changed.

Remove your HWID from Sound Pack A it is located in the inf file here.
D/S/R/1/ALCXAUD.INF

Next add this to your Sound Pack B
%CMI9738.DeviceDesc%=AC97,      PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C5&SUBSYS_18881019

It will be added to the inf file located here.
D/S/C/1/CMICHX.INF

Once you have made the changes repack the driver packs and give it a test and report back also if it fail please provide some log files so people can see where the problems are DPFinsher.log and setupapi.log

@overflow are you sure this line is correct? should the quote be there after the Setup.exe" I have tried two loads now and both have failed with a DPFinsher error. Here is that last bit of information I am seeing in the DPFinsher log before it fails. Let me know what you think and I will try another load.

@overflow - ok thanks for the info that helps but I still don't see how just adding the setup.exe and the setup.iss is going to install the control panel if I do not include the files on the disk. Please download the drivers here http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/soc … Q1Camr.zip and unzip them and have a look at the folder structure and I think you will understand my question better. There are folders in the zip file like this.

SM_Panel with a sub directory Sys (These are the control panel files I think?)

SM_PNP with a sub directory Sys (This is the PNP driver that I know is needed with out it the control panel will not find the sound card)

There are a few more directory's and there are other files in the root some I know aren't need like the file 269601USA8.exe it is some kind of patch file for 98.

So if you get a chance could you please download the driver file and look at it an let me know what you think.

Thanks,
dolivas

we cross posted reread my last please

Ok OverFlow I created the .iss file and did a test install from the command prompt using this command setup.exe /s and it did a silent install of the drivers and control panel I wanted. Now I have some questions on how to add this to the driver pack I added the ini section like you posted but where do I put the files from the original installer? do they go in the S/SM/A/3 directory and replace what is already there because the drivers are already included in the original setup? There is also all kind of language files and sample files like wav and midi files can those just be deleted? I guess what I don't understand about this method are we just letting the original installer install the drivers and control panel silently during windows install? I looked at the creative section in Sound A because I think that is the same thing I am trying to accomplish here as you can see I am still kind lost on where to put the files.

Ok thanks Debugger maybe this is not worth the trouble the reason I wanted to try and install the control panel with the driver is because when the driver is installed with the DP I get this error when running the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (DirectSound test results: Failure at step 10 (Secondary buffer): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure) I decided to remove the drivers that the DP installed and installed the drivers that Asus provides they were the same as what is in the DP I checked the file hashes and they matched. Once the drivers where installed with the setup program which also installs the SoundMAX Control Panel I retested the system again with the dxdiag tool and this time all test pass? Any thoughts on the error? the sound seems to work fine and like I said the correct driver is installed with the DP.

debugger has given you the answer create the .iss file on a machine with this sound card (you have to do it for us).
you can look up how to create a .iss file by google. then we launch the setup from the ini entries (like i showed above) useing the .iss file you provide to automate the soundcards setup program when we run the finisher.
no problem.

I will work on this and see what I can come up with for everyone I will report back in a few days on my progress. So much to learn and so little time......

Hi Jaak

Thanks for the tip on the Modem pack sometimes making the audio fail. I would have never thought of that and I do use the modem pack alot.

dolivas

I don't know I am kind at a loss now... Do you have any log files at all? also what does the error say when DPFinsher quites?

Hi newsposter,

I think Jaak might have been talking to me about the modem pack I have been working with him on the nightly builds.

Now about your problem have you checked the MD5 Hashes to make sure they match? If they don't match I would clean your I.E. or Firefox cache and re-download them I have had to do this before.

I have run both of the sound test packs together with KTD and have not had this problem at all are you running the test packs? or the current releases? Also what problem are you having with Graphics B?

Did you clean out the QuickStream Cache folder? I am not sure this is causing the problem but it would not hurt to try it.
