hmmm
I'll try get the older version at intel... albeit Gigabyte's is still older?

edit, I still know my way around over there... got the file pretty quick
but... it says 5.5.1035 which you say is good?
where did the newer ones come from?

will look, just got home from work.
I verified these files did come from the CDROM. (sfx image extraction to fresh floppy.)

they match with the files I put on the F6 floppy when I combined ITERAID and IASTOR on one floppy.

it rebooted to setup

Hi

I'll be... when I read this, I decided to change BIOS settings in my testrig, and set it to AHCO
(it had previously been set to RAID, and ran from a SATAraid array. ITE Raid has also worked...)

anyhow, this GA8i945Pro motherboard will let setup see the drive, formats it, copies files, and reboots to the DVD, to launch setup all over again...

I think I'll dig up my ITE/IASTOR floppy (they are combined on the floppy) and run setup from a holographed SP2. the files come from the CDROM Gigabyte provided.

again at Helmi

with KTD ALL, how did the folder in the laptop look like?
does it have D\D?
like in windows\driverpacks\D\D

@ Helmi

could you look at the svcpack.in_ file in that slipped folder?
when expanded, the file might not be in ANSI.

Hi Sereby
I just dowloaded these to look at them.
I assume you also looked at WLAN pack when you compared "what's in".

anyhow, that's quite a bit of drivers. I'll have to update my own hardware drivers folders (where I even keep CDROM images)

I have no idea what that'll do, but it'll probably do.
For the time being, I just have to not forget to hit subscribe.

Hi
first off, I think del.cmd is a bad name (del is an internal cmd)
if you want to do this, call the thing delcmd.cmd or something...

then maybe use "if exist"

the idea for the changes in KTD was 'erm',  ours.
I had suggested move rather than copy/delete.

already doing a half of the above
I need mass storage, and see no reason THAT will require localised.
Just like chipsets should not be localised.

but also sound control panels can be localised...

since mine only needs the HDaudio by realtek, i'll try with only that subfolder too
( a slimmed sound A, put in third packs)

6.08.6 does not do it, using latest packs.

imho, this kinda narrows it down to the KTD changes done in 09 and 10.

the nested D may very well be at the heart of this.
just saw the popup, with only half and a half.. using the base 610
(I decided to get the ATI out of graphics A)

Graphics A (repacked, put it in third party)

hi

I just read that a redesign is in the works.
I'd like to see a user control panel, where I can set "subscribe to posts I have started/ or answered in" to ON

Actually, the default should be ON,on BOTH, in my not so humble opinion, and I will tell you why.

a great many forae see people never return because they are never notified there was a response.

@ MIKHELM

I actually have used Nlite  for removing DotnetFX and then did NOT select the dotnetFX addon in RVM, then did m2/KTD and remember I still had it. (I should take notes in a testing logbook... memory could fool me, but I doubt it.)
But, When I tried that, Base610xxx was still an RC version... so it don't count in the current "what's been tried" list of things.

I think I'll use the folowing approach
select only four packs, do it to it.
if the issue is gone, test the other four.
if it comes back, test two out of these four.
is it gone?
test one out of remaining 2

if that narrows it down to a pack... which is possible? Then start removing folders in the pack and repack it.
same method.
half / half etc...

something requires a localised resource, and having said that, it could be related to settings in winnt.sif?

next week, I'll probably build me the third testrig, and I have opted for an ATI card (just for testing that other line of thoughts, which is that it could be an NVidia thing...
BUT... The NVidia videodriver control panel is properly localised (it offers me Dutch menus)

Whatever the cause (maybe even that nested D in D), I would like to help nail it.

hmmm actually searched for desktop.*

sol.exe to keep the mouse happy wink

the finisher says that it moves the drivers inside "C:\D to C:\windows\driverpacks\D"

now, in windows command, if that D in driverpacks does not exist because you did not create it, and you do
move /y C:\D C:\windows\driverpacks\D
then you do not have the nested D.

BUT, finisher uses another command module, is it not?
HOW does that do things... I dunno

patience runs by sol.exe wink

hi
about that desktop.ini popup

I think we should help in trying to narrow down on what causes it.
so; what did I try so far. (so you don't have to, or can verify..)

NO RVM (clean source CD), all packs, KTD all, m2, does it

a suspicion I had about DotnetFX,
I selected the ATI control panel (does not use it), on clean source, m2, ktd.
and got the popup.

unpacked all drivers
searched for a desktop.ini. (nada, zilch)

searched drive what contains the clean source folders.
none in OSes.

will try to eliminate packs, one by one. (each time, M2, KTD all).
will get on the machine I looked at this morning and look at its finisher log.

Hi Wim

got home not too long ago...
before I got to work, I had let the testrig run a KTD install
I just looked at the windows\driverpacks\D\D folder mentioned here.

yep; I got it too, hotfixpacks by RVM/Meulc, then DPsBase 6.10 in method2, KTD all.

hmmm
when you first create a folder %systemroot%\driverpacks\D, and then move /y  %systemdrive%\D %systemroot%\driverpacks\D, you will get a nested D.. or windows\driverpacks\D\D

the desktop.ini thing was there too (which happens here when I do KTD, and not when I don't use KTD)

']@Bâshrat the Sneaky - so you need any extra information I could provide?
And another question - could finisher be executed via cmdlines.txt before MUI is integrated?
(to get rid of possible conflicts with locale), although I've got following strings in winnt.sif:

[RegionalSettings]
    LanguageGroup=5,1
    SystemLocale=00000419
    UserLocale=00000419
    InputLocale=0409:00000409,0419:00000419

at DK
why are there two different inputlocal descriptors in string?

mine looks like this
[RegionalSettings]
    LanguageGroup=1
    Language=00000813
    SystemLocale=00000813
    UserLocale=00000813
    InputLocale=0813:00000813

another observance

it is not a good idea to run setup with live USB devices connected to the machine.

hi

devcon.exe is Microsoft's windows setup API
(application programming interface)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Applicatio … _interface

I assume you used Meulc's dutch packs and Dutch addons in RVM.

the following is but a suggestion, so as to try figure out what caused the BSOD.
you definately need mass storage, but in your situation I would try it without the chipset pack.
I have had the issue with a flawed beta once (There're different chips in my rig, but I got an 0x00007B... the message TXT is quite general.)

Maybe you get past the BSOD if you don't use chipsets.
I dunno. Worth a shot?

it booted into windows with the following error message "Files that are required for Windows to run properly have been replaced by unrecognized versions.

couple days ago I had that too, but it went on after I had put in the slipstreamed CD.
(I thought it could be Nlite messing up something.. so did not report this)

Tim545, There WAS a bad 6.09 base file on the server for couple days.
This was replaced last saturday.

I suggest you download a fresh 6.09 BASE .
and, DO keep your copy of 6.08.6. ( 6.08.6 is doing fine here).

for what it is worth.
I would replace a card which was giving me trouble time and again.
Sometimes it is just your luck that it won't work well with your type of motherboard.
I've seen that happen all too often...
I had a really good mobo for testing stuff in years ago. (an Iwill VD133)
a card what had issues in a machine was put in it, and if it had no issues I'd recommend they use another brand/model. I sorta wore out the slots on two such boards...

actually, there exist THREE hpt3xx.inf files and hpt3xx.sys files.

Can you believe I cannot recall why the 1520 sata raid controllers are not put in my boxes?
I was tidying the cabonets and drawers today, and found two 1520 controllers.
I do remember I could no longer use older types because they were not good for SP2... but why are these not used.
hmmm, the testbox has its guts in plain view...

both inf files for the Highpoint ATA and SATA controllers reference to hpt3xx.sys

hmmm
further gueswork.
I am thinking about the inf files they are referenced in.
If these were changed to use the new name, would that be a problem?

but, otoh, maybe this is why there is a problem with some of the highpoint controllers.
I'm intrigued as well.

edit
AHpt and Rhpt both had HPT3XX.sys as original name

3ware78k.sy_ becomes 3wdrv100.sys which comes from
D\M\3\2

3ware9K.sy_ and 3ware95k.sy_ both become 3waredrv.sys (with different filesize) and they come from
D\M\3\1
D\M\3\1\O

I haven't looked at the others but figure this has to do with driver exeption filtering?

there was one thing I noticed when I unpacked a file I had renamed with makebase...
what I had done was makebase file_01.inf file_202.IN_

when I told 7zip to unpack file_202.in_ "here", I got file_01.inf, which made me think the original filename has been stored or tagged in the file descripors.

with expand, you actually have to use the destination name.
after filtering, the one that has to be applied can be expanded with the correct name, just the one...
OR???  or they go to different folders? (w/i what I don't think.)

anyhow, this is guesswork.
Bâshrat the Sneaky knows why.
