I'm sure this isn't a popular opinion, but I just can't stand wikis.  I mean they suck worse than all that sucks.  It is very few and far that I stumble upon one that is actually more helpful than frustrating.  I almost dropped DreamHost because they ditched their knowledgebase for a wiki.

I swear AV technology is practically becoming worthless.

If you're using Method 2, QSC will only speed up Mass Storage Text Mode integration.

This has long been a limitation of Method 1 and it was one of the original reasons I made the switch to Method 2 a while back.  It had been discussed at one time consolidating some of the folder structure, but combining some folders together would make maintaining the DriverPacks even more difficult than it is now.

If you use all of the official DriverPacks, it far exceeds the limitation, let alone adding in some of the 3rd party DriverPacks.

I think my new application AutoImage is just what you're looking for wink

It will even create your .iso file after everything is completed.

Ok, that's probably the issue then.  Your source should be copied down to a directory on your hard drive so that the BASE can work with it.

The prefered method of posting is to construct your subject line with  [REQ] Driver v1.23

and to include a link to the page where the download can be found.  Also it is best if the download comes from the hardware manufacturer themselves, or in the case of things like integrated devices, the OEM.

If you think the driver is already included, but your specific device is not supported (Analog Devices SoundMax is a good example), you should post your hwids.  Bashrat has a link in his signature to download the utility.  It's a really tiny download and is completely read-only.

Are you point the BASE at a CD or DVD ?

If anybody would like to test using the DriverPacks with RIS (or even CD/DVD), I've decided to make AutoImage generally available for beta testing.

A cautionary note - if you are still new to the subject of unattended installations, you may want to wait until AutoImage is a little more mature and tested.  I've tested this every which way but tuesday and it does work, but it still should go through some more rigorous testing.

Patience grasshopper wink

I have no idea if anyone else is having the problem that you're having.  I have not seen any other reports of your exact problem.

There is only one mod (that I know of) here and that's Bashrat himself.  Hopefully he's working on new release of BASE to help with some of these issues.

Those are indeed ident files.  You may want to also include "WIN51" which is an indicator of either Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.  This is mostly speculation, but I'm going to guess that Bâshrat the Sneaky is looking for that file as XP and 2003 share a lot in common when it comes to drivers.

It sounds as though there is a problem with the video adapter and the drivers properly installing during the PnP enumeration phase of setup.  I have a somewhat similar problem with a Compaq nx9010 laptop that has an ATI adapter built-in.  For the time being my solution for that particular machine is to leave out the ATI video drivers and install them manually post setup.

If you could post the hwids from that laptop it may help Bâshrat the Sneaky troubleshoot the problem.

I believe that currently the only form of OS identification that BASE is using is the ident files.  I'm fairly confident that this will change to include more precise methods of identification.

EDIT:  For the time being you could always manually copy over the appropriate ident files to your target directory.

Because when they drop support for a card that means they don't have to do one bit of testing on that card.  There could be some driver programming techniques that they would like to enable in the driver, but if they do it could make the driver not work with older cards.  But mainly, hardware companies would prefer to end support of a product as soon as you pay for it.

I'm just thankful that they're finally starting to become halfway stable and bug free.

OemPnPDriversPath is utilized at T-39 (the very beginning) of the GUI portion of setup.  At this point your NIC has not been installed yet, therefor it cannot access the network to get the drivers.  The "best" way to do drivers w/ RIS is to use Method 2 and just copy down all of the DriverPacks to the system drive.  Method 1 will work just fine, but now you're doing a copy operation on an additional 5,000 or so files.  Much faster to copy a dozen larger files than thousands of tiny ones.

To back tack a little here - During the PnP enumeration of devices you probably notice near the progress bar that it says Installing Devices (or something similar).  The very next thing after that is "Configuring Network".  It's not until that is finished that you have network access.  Cmdlines.txt has full blown Internet access for instance.  I know this for sure as I download files to the target computer during cmdlines.

i tried googling but didn't understand what i found... you can say that i'm a little moob w/ these new stuff... heheh sorry sad

I'm not so expert either when it comes to the absolute latest, I just remember reading something someplace about NCQ compatibility issues a couple of months ago.  I would suggest starting with the websites of your motherboard manufacturer and of Seagate to see if there is anything regarding the issue.

I don't know if you can even do this, and if you can - how to do it.  But if you could disable NCQ and let drive operate in an "old fashioned" mode for a little while, then check for those error messages.  The description of your error message is what got me on the whole NCQ issue, but I could be totally off.

I made a DP for VMware Workstation V5.5 and it was updated by muiz to support V5.5.1.  It's still available in the 3rd Party DP sticky thread at MSFN.

It could be that the hard drive is just fine but something isn't working properly between the controller (on the motherboard) and the NCQ on the drive.  You may want to see if there are BIOS updates for the motherboard or firmware updates for the drive.  All of these new technologies coming out these days seem half baked at best with each vendor implementing things however they see fit.

Perhaps some googling may reveal others are having similar difficulties.

1st of All, I was not reporting any kind of bugs, and I'm sorry if I expressed my self like that
I was asking for experts opinions about what is right and what is wrong

I wasn't trying to say that you were reporting a bug in your post.  I was just saying that if you run into some problems to try out the install using the original DriverPacks and see if the problem goes away or not before making a bug report.  I don't think there's any problems with what you want to do or with any questions you've asked, just a little misunderstanding is all.

I'm considering doing this because the existence of my card reader's four drive letters throws all the others out of whack.  My Windows/system drive is I:. sad

I have to do this for several computers at work.  I also get the systemdrive as letter I if the reader is connected during setup.  In my case it's a bit of a PITA because the card readers are mounted in a 3.5" drive bay, so I have to open the case up (or disable USB completely in the BIOS).  You'd think after almost 30 years we wouldn't have to worry about silly things like this anymore with PCs.

The only suggestion I would have for you is that if you run into some sort of problem with your modified DriverPack, try again with the real DriverPack to see if you still have the problem before reporting anything as a bug.  Also, if you remove drivers from DP Mass Storage and chose to do a mass storage text mode integration, some things could be seriously thrown off.

I looked in the support list and there were other S3 "Savage" lines, but the IX/MX line.
