@OverFlow
Thanks for clarification on the policy there - that's why I asked first...

I realise that MassStorage is so hard - that's why we need it as it's even harder to do driver integration manually!
Thanks for all the excellent work here smile

BTW, I do consider myself a noob still.
Although I first registered here over three years ago, I've only ever done a few DP integrations.
I only visit about every 18 months, and get the latest MassStorage, LAN & Chipset packs to shoehorn an ageing Win2000 into a newer hp business desktop platform! (Currently i5, i7 Quad Core etc)
Happily, I have finally found a workaround for the s/w that we were told "required" Win2K and was "impossible" to run under WinXP, which means that my job is much easier.
The MassStorage DriverPacks do not work at all well with Win2000 these days, and I had to do much manual enabling of all the common Intel AHCI drivers, and disabling of all the other "active" drivers.
They work great with WinXP though smile
Cheers and thanks for your efforts!

@soporific
I'm still a newbie myself, so not sure how politic it is to post a link to these "in the clear"
I found the location with a bit of judicious searching - maybe this is a way of limiting access to those with enough knowledge to mostly stay out of trouble!

If you're really struggling to find them, then PM me and I'll see if I can steer you in the right direction.
If any mods object to this sort of behaviour please let me know if I'm out of line, but I will say this:

I really really REALLY hope that the MassStorage pack is re-released soon!

This pack is the MOST important one in the whole suite as all other drivers can be manually added after installing Windows even by copying onto USB and loading manually - ugly but not the end of the world.
With the latest "officially released" version being all the way back in Jan 2009 (did I read that right?) there are significant numbers of machines with AHCI controllers that just cannot be used with XP OutOfBox drivers or the old "official current" DP MassStorage 9.01...

Please don't take this comment as negative criticism though - I really appreciate all the hard work that goes into these packs smile
Since I'm not in the testing team I have no idea what happens behind the scenes or what may be being worked on before the MassStorage pack can be released!

Cheers and thanks again,
tU

Hi folks
As an infrequent visitor, just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work smile

It took me a while to ferret out the latest releases, since the website has been redesigned and the latest MassStorage wasn't in the area labelled as latest...

Anyway, I used:

DPs_BASE_100401rc.exe
with

DP_Chipset_wnt5_x86-32_1004r1.7z
DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_100411.7z
DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_100429.7z

And those three packs all worked just fine and dandy thanks on my hp Compaq 8100 Elite (yes it has an additional video card and Broadcom NIC - just ignore those):

whereas my previous attempt with latest "stable releases"
DPs_BASE_8125.exe
DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_901.7z
did not successfully load the AHCI driver for VEN_8086&DEV_3B22 which I'm sure you're already well aware of...

Anyway thanks for all the good work here and just wanted to report success with nightlies.
Hope they're going to be released officially soon smile
Cheers,

Erm, so either I am completely clueless, or I have found a wee bug with DP Base 8.12.5 which I couldn't find any mention of here in the forums...

It is an issue with the UI.
Essentially, if on the UpdateChecker page you click the "Refresh" button eg, after using the integrated downloader, then BASE will REMOVE ALL your previous selections of which DriverPacks to slipstream except for the MassStorage TEXT MODE checkbox.

It has been quite a while since I used DriverPacks, so I re-downloaded some of the DriverPacks I cared about and started from scratch.
I just clicked the next arrow to get through all the pages of the BASE Wizard and was initially confused by the "Where did you get that?" labels next to some of the DriverPacks on the UpdateChecker page, so I closed the UI.
Here is the log:

Note that the bottom section shows clearly the DriverPacks I'd selected and those I did not.

I downloaded a few more DriverPacks and ran BASE again.
This time when I got to the UpdateChecker page I clicked the refresh button, and then Slipstreamed and burnt a CD.
(I know it was rash, I should have tested in VM first etc)
When booting a real PC (compaq dc7900 with ICH10 AHCI mode SATA) off the CD I watched the textmode drivers being copied and things then proceed to the GUI mode setup.
"Sweet!", I thought to myself - "that was easy!" and wandered off to do something else.
When I came back later, the machine was stuck in endless reboots, so I ran the CD again and watched intently. It always fails at the first restart after GUI mode setup.

Here is the Base log from that build:

You can see I clicked the refresh button a couple of times and used the integrated downloader.
Note the bottom section that shows NONE of the driverpacks are going to be included except the MassStorage textmode.

After a LOT of experimentation, and failed windows setups I figured out what was going on.
I remembered from previous experience that I should have been able to see some driverpacks being copied or decompressed, with progress bars and realised I hadn't seen that ever.
So I looked and couldn't even find them on the CD I'd burnt...
In fact my slipstreamed CD didn't even contain an OEM folder...

It's easy to reproduce this issue - you don't even need to DO the slipstreaming.
Just open base, select a few driverpacks, click the refresh button under UpdateChecker, and then go BACK to the driverpack selection. All of your selections will be undone except the MassStorage text mode option.

If this is not a 'bug' per se, but is instead by design, then it might be a really good idea to put a popup warning (after clicking the refresh button on UpdateChecker) to alert users they need to reselect their chosen driverpacks!
It's likely that somebody else could be tripped up by this...

Now I know what is going on, I have a DP-build successfully installed on my Compaq dc7900 smile
Cheers for all the great work!

That would be fantastic! smile
I don't mind at all editing the .ini file...
Cheers Bâshrat, you are a legend
tU

Hi Bâshrat
Yeah, I know that's the way you've done it.
Unfortunately, our Web Marshal proxy rejects any programs that have a setting to "use Internet Explorer proxy settings".
It's not just the DriverPacks update checker that doesn't work for me, there are several other programs I'd really love to work, but alas, our proxy prevents me using them.
The only third party tools I can use through the proxy are ones that let me EXPLICITLY DEFINE a username/password, and then they all seem to work fine.
So if I could do this in the DP Update Checker that would be fantastic! smile
Cheers,
tU

@Fragbert - have you tried your source WITHOUT the RyanVM updates?
ie just the bare OS CD, then apply Bâshrat the Sneaky DriverPacks...
As everyone has pointed out RW media is your friend, and I use it a lot too.

Fragbert wrote:

- unless you have a VirtualPC that can emulate ICH8R smile

Yeah, now that would be REALLY handy!

By "clean source", I mean start again with a new empty directory, copy your OS CD into it, slipstream the latest SP (if the CD didn't already have it), then run the DPBase against this new directory.

I have had problems in the past where I've played with various "integrations" or "customisations" projects that do different things to the same set of OS source files and somewhere along the way manage to break the windows install process.

If you're having trouble with any of these things it's often a good idea to eliminate all other variables by starting with a fresh set of files. It might not be exactly where you want to ultimately end up (with your nlited, XPE'd PIW'd, RyanVm updated, fully customised and unattended OS installer that can run from anywhere including Mars!) but is still a useful troubleshooting step. It doesn't take all that long and at worst will waste one CD...
Good luck mate smile
Cheers,
tU

Hi Bâshrat
I too would like to add my vote for proxy authentication. smile
We are using Web Marshal 2005, and it does not allow DP Base (or any other program) to connect anonymously.
ALL programs MUST provide user/pass.
Internet Explorer works fine as that is integrated with windows and remembers the Windows login details, so I don't have to provide user credentials each time.
But, I have no way to enter user credentials for your DPBase to connect with...
Cheers,
tU

@Fragbert - very interesting.

Your HWID:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822

is the same as mine, so even though the revision is different I would have expected the same driver to work for you as it it did for me when I used WinXP.
What version of DPBase are you using? 7.01.6?

Did you try starting the slipstream again from "clean source" files?

Also, sorry if this sounds insulting, but did you confirm that the "iastor" lines are NOT commented out from other TXTSETUP.SIF sections like [SourceDisksFiles], [SCSI.Load] and [HardwareIdsDatabase]?
Cheers,
tU

@All - thanks for looking into this folks - much appreciated smile

@sthue - thanks for posting that, it's nice to know someone can confirm the same problem. Of course it may mean a bug OR it might be we're both doing something wrong... tongue

Ok, thanks for that.
Which are the relevant lines in the DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32.ini file ?
ms_1_exc_disableIfOS= "w2k" - do I just delete this line, or comment it out with a ; ?

I've just had a look and it's interesting to note that both the Ini file inside the MassStorage DP (compressed) and also the one in the QSC directory for textmode use, this line is missing from the [IN-1] section which applies to my HWID.
Does this mean that those drivers should be enabled?
Sorry for the pesky questions here, I'm sure you're very busy...
Cheers,
tU

@Bâshrat - thanks very much for the explanation - I wondered if it might be something like that.
If there's anything else you want me to try or info you're after just let me know.
I guess a related question here then, is what is the best way for me to "uncomment" the RAID drivers I think I'm likely to require for a Win2K build?
Was my manual edit of TXTSETUP.SIF the only way or is there a more elegant solution?

If I may, I'd like to propose a slight user-interface modification to the DPBase GUI:
If it detects a Win2K source, and the user selects the checkbox to slipstream the drivers to textmode, that some sort of warning message popup to the effect that users should check their drivers of "potential interest" are enabled in TEXTSETUP.SIF before burning the CD.

I know that use of Win2K is probably rare these days, but I'd be surprised if I'm the ONLY newbie here to be tripped up by this wink
Fantastic work on these driverpacks!
Thanks again,
tU

Hi all
I'm pretty new to the awesome DriverPacks, but have encountered a problem with trying to install Windows 2000 onto a hp/Compaq dc7700 with integrated Intel ICH8 SATA RAID.
I get the INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE stop error 0x07B.

I have tried incorporating the DriverPack MassStorage 7.01.1 into a Win XP source, and that works on the dc7700.
But, I need to install Windows 2000 onto the dc7700 as it is required for an older Point of Sale system that is incapable of running under WinXP.
I should also point out I have tried using my Win2K/DriverPack builds under a Virtual Machine, and they work fine, but of course that isn't using the MassStorage DP at all.

Also, if I go into the BIOS and change the SATA Emulation from RAID to IDE, I have succesfully used my Win2K/DP build on the dc7700.
Of course this then disables the RAID bios, and then presents each member drive as a "standalone" IDE drive and setup happily used one of those.
This BIOS setting of SATA Emulation is the ONLY RAID-related option I can find in the BIOS and I have been exhaustively through every menu.

I have also tried several times with new source files as I've read sometimes people encountered problems with corrupt files or "remnant" files from previous slipstreams. I have tried using ONLY DP Chipset and MassStorage, and different options for DP Finisher and KTD, but I'm always using "method2".

So, here is my DPs_BASE.ini from the Win2K build:

Now, I can't show you the Finisher log, because it never gets that far.
In fact, after carefully watching setup proceed, I'm pretty sure that Win2K Setup is NOT using the DP MassStorage drivers for even the first step.
When running through the initial part of textmode, you can watch on the bottom of the screen which drivers are being loaded, like for Floppy, CDROM, filesystem, partition manager etc and these are all part of a standard MS Windows setup.
But I never saw any of the "extra" drivers I would expect to see that should have been added by the DP MassStorage, such as the one for Intel ICH8 (iastor).
So Win2K textmode setup gets to the end of loading drivers, then says "Setup is loading" and then appears the BSOD with 0x07B.
This is interesting in that it's not even getting to the DOS GUI mode stage where you can choose where you want to install windows etc.

Curious, I re-ran the WinXP/DP slipstreamed disc I'd made, and sure enough, I can easily spot all the "extra" MassStorage drivers being loaded during textmode.
So, here are the HWIDs, but please bear in mind this was run under the successful WinXP/DP install:

And I cannot find the HWID "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&SUBSYS_2801103C&REV_02\3&B1BFB68&0&FA " in that file.
But, I do get a match for "VEN_8086&DEV_2822" so I'm not sure how relevant the rest of the string is.
Anyone have any comments on that?

So now I'm completely confused.
Why does the DP MassStorage slipstream fail with Win2K source (although it says it was successful), yet work with WinXP source?
If anyone can suggest more tests to run or where else to look I'd be very grateful!
Cheers,
tU

Edit:
I've just had a look in the TXTSETUP.SIF for my HWID, and this is what I found:

;PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&CC_0104="iastor"

So, What the hey? Does this mean this line has been commented and this driver will not be loaded by setup??
Anyone with any ideas why?
This newbie is confused, but is going to try removing the semi-colon and having another go at loading my Win2K build. Again.

Update:
It WORKS!
Uncommenting the line above, plus any other line/references to "iastor" means that I now have a working Win2K running on my hp/Compaq dc7700 with SATA RAID drives.

My new question is thus:
Why oh why are so many of these drivers "commented out" in the TXTSETUP.SIF file?
Now that I have a better look at this file it seems that MOST of the MassStorage drivers are commented out.
So why are they all commented out?
I thought the whole idea of slipstreaming these mass storage drivers (and especially selecting the textmode checkbox) was that they would then be available so we wouldn't have to use the "press F6 to load 3rd party driver" method.
There should be something to this effect in the FAQ or a stickied comment from a mod or similar somewhere saying that FIRST step is to check that your driver of interest isn't commented out in TXTSETUP.SIF.
Sorry if this sounds like a rant, I really think that these DriverPacks are simply awesome, but I feel like I've wasted a couple of days needlessly here.
Would love to hear from someone in the know...
Cheers,
tU

@jtdoom - you don't happen to have the link handy for this "long post" about iastor do you?
I'm having big trouble with a Compaq dc7700 with ICH8 integrated SATA RAID...
