PS can you test the nightly? (do you still have the notebook?)

We' ll do!

PS: Argh, I dont have the notebook anymore, it was from a client (I am a computer tech).

haven't had a chance yet... normally JakeLD does Mass and he has been too busy... I only did mass last time to fix a bug that was reported in DriverPacks BASE. It was neccessary to correct a flaw in mass to achieve the fix.... Since most people can update mass and only I can update DriverPacks BASE i try to spend my limited amount of free time on the DriverPacks BASE code.

There is a nightly version of chipset up... sometimes conflicts in chipset will affect mass storage especially with those POS nvidia MB drivers.

Hey no problem, just checking!
Just wondered if it was beeing checked, since this problem should probably be posted in another section.

I guess you can close this topic, since everything was solved, and I already managed to get the vaio notebook runing with the old DriverPacks BASE.

Thank you so much for the attention and congrats on the project!
KEEP IT UP!!

BTW, there has been a problem with the portuguese(brasil) translation to the DriverPacks base for a while now, If you want it, I can do the translations from now on, or maybe just correct the flaw.

If you need anything, count on me!

Any news on the PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_803B&SUBSYS_902D104D&REV_00\4&3B3A03B5&0&1AF0 ?

PCI\VEN_104C&DEV_803B&SUBSYS_902D104D&REV_00\4&3B3A03B5&0&1AF0

I just noticed that the old build works, but there is an exclamation point next to the controller.

Its a Sony Vaio NR320AH, Ill check the HWID and return.

But I noticed something,
I installed on a 40gb drive and it worked.
When I tried a 250gb drive I got this problem.

Maybe a sata1/sata2 issue ?

I used my new build this weekend on 2 pcs.

1- Old desktop PC
2- Sony Vaio not so new

On 1, the installation worked perfectly.
On 2, installation goes well until the first time windows stars. Then I get a BSOD 0x0000007B. Cant go into safe mode, nothing.

Seems like a problem with the hdd controller.
I tried my old driverpack build, and it worked like a charm.

Sorry it took me long to respond, but I only have spare time on the weekend and this weekend was crazy.

I always keep a spare DVD around and a USB to SATA/IDE cable around - will the laptop boot from USB?

It does, but I had a feeling the HD was bad, so I used seatools to check it (its toshiba but I dont know any toshiba software) and guess what ?

Smart has been triped
and after formating still 1 error detected.

As Im writing this, I did exactly how you instructed me.

Created a copy of my xp install named xpsp3-nlite
used nlite on it to add all updates and copied winnt.sif and $oem$ to it

created a copy of that folder named xpsp3-nlite-driverpack
and ran dpbase on it
checked the log and all driverpacks and binaries were copied to oem folder of my install path

Now I will run nlite again to create the iso and finally burn with nero.

To use it on a 100% working desktop.

Ok, just tried the iso on a virtual machine and the drivers were extracted, so Im gonna burn to a dvd-r to install on the desktop.

OverFlow wrote:

get a new DVD and report back... most windows files are quite small compared to the DriverPacks archives wink
IE the drive may work as long as it does not have to spit out a 100 meg archive wink

they are 20 bucks at newegg big_smile

big_smile

Its a notebook actually, so the drives are not that cheap or easy to find, specially here in Brasil.
But not to worry, I was just using the notebook because I had to re-format it anyway.

As we speak Im starting from scratch and will test on a 100% working desktop.

Dont go anywhere, stay tuned for more Brasil's next dpsbase xp dvd on driverpacks.net.

Burned the DVD and to my surprise it did not work, there were some progress, but no 100%.

First, luckly, I had a problem with the dvd drive, after the dos part of windows setup, it overheated and stoped working, so when the colorfull part of the setup started, it was like there was no dvd in.

So I got 3 errors saying could not load /oem/bin/7unzip.exe , etc...
and after that, windows instalation asked for the window setup dvd, so I clicked cancel.

I tried just restarting the pc, but got the same errors again.

So I let it cool off for a while, and this time it installed.
BUT, there were no extraction process so I did not get any driverpacks installed, BUT the drivers that windows recognized were installed (different than last tryes, that NO DRIVERS AT ALL were installed).

There is no finisher log file at C:\windows.

OverFlow wrote:

spaces are allowed in the path - all versions of DriverPacks BASE since like mid 2006 wink  (BASE version 6.xx or better)

I think i may know what happened... If you run the update checker it will clear all the pack selections.

IE
You may have run the update checker AFTER you selected which DriverPacks you wanted, but before you slipstreamed, If you did that then all of the DriverPacks were unselected. you hit slipstream and NO packs were then added. (if no packs are selected DriverPacks BASE will perform a removal / uninstall of DriverPacks. So you actually removed the DriverPacks when you belived you were installing. wink tongue - Always check your work. IE if the OEM folder is not there then read your DPs_BASE.log wink.

if you run the update checker then you must return to the packs selection page and reselect the pack you wish to use wink...

always run the update checker either after you are done slipstreaming or before you start making your selections. wink

PS All versions of DriverPacks BASE after 8.12.5 have the update checker page as the second page presented in DriverPacks BASE.
(instead of the second to last page as it is in 8.12.x)

That makes a lot of sense, and im sure that I did click on the button to check if they were the newest driverpacks, but Im am 100% sure that the clicks next to the driverpacks were still there.

So if this is true, then there really is a bug there that clears the driver packs when you click to check if its updated, BUT the does not clear the checks on the list.

If so, im glad I contributed to making the project better! big_smile YAY!!!

The second run, I also clicked to check updates, but this time, there was an update (to video C) and I clicked to update it.

One thing I learned is how to check my work (check logs).

Thank you Overflow and Smartepants and all people who tried to help me.
I will start from scratch to make sure we nailed the bug.

No problem Sammy, My english is not great either, Im from Brasil.

I guess a short path to windows dir would make things easier, but it should work with any path.
Spaces are allowed on on the path as long as there are quotes (" "), only special characters are not.

Funny thing is, I did not change anything, and dpsbase did not work on the first run, but did work on the second.

Now my winnt.sif was altered

I have a feeling that NOW it would work, because dpsbase copied stuff to my xp instalattion, but i promisse, I TOUCHED nothing on the config, I just reran with the settings as it was before.
Notice how the txtmode drivers seem to have been updated with the 1st dpsbase run, but the other stuff wasnt done.

This rerun took 5 minutes (this is what it used to take when it worked)

I think this is where the problem is.
I ran DPs_BASE and selected the directory again, double checked all the option and finally clicked INTEGRATE.

It took 3 minutes (kind of faster than it used to), so im looking at my install folder, and there are no driver pack files on it, unless its hidden on i386 or something

I will post the logs now

seems like the new dpsbase is not copying the files to my install folder.

@tarcis,
Try this:
1. Use nlite to slipstream SP3 and apply whatever updates etc to your source, then when you get to the "build ISO" stage, stop, leave nlite open.
2. Add your own winnt.sif to your source.
3. Run DriverPacks BASE and integrate the current DriverPacks to your source with whatever options you want (no KTD).
4. Use the still open nlite to build your ISO and test.

The golden rule of DriverPacks is to integrate them last, just prior to building the ISO.

tarcis wrote:

I was looking at the last dvd I burned, and there is no oem folder on it.

That would definitely be an indicator of a botched install.  Are you sure you're pointing DriverPacks BASE to the correct folder?

Thats what I am used to do, except that I dont leave nlite open, i just rerun it, on the first run i choose integrate updates, and the second run I only use the create iso option.

Anyway, I will do that right now, and Ill post back logs and results as they come.

I just now noticed that I left out the Driverpack finisher, but that could not be causing my drivers not to be extracted during setup could it ?

I was looking at the last dvd I burned, and there is no oem folder on it. just the $oem$(which i use it).
I will check the other dvd 2 I had created that did not work also.

@tarcis What changes did you make after you added DriverPacks?

Thank you so much for the attention guys, I hope Im not giving you too much trouble.

I did not make anychanges AFTER DriverPacks.
Before however, I slipstreamed SP3 into an SP2 xp, then used nlite to slipstream all sp3+ updates excluding media player and internet explorer updates (if I include those, neither ie and wmp work after windows install).

After DriverPacks, i included my own copy of winnt.sif to the i386 folder and used nlite to create the iso.

I will post my winnt.sif and other files requested in my next posts.

again, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING and for the EXCELLENT PROJECT.

My build did not extract the drivers during setup process.

I dont remember, let me install again and check.
I have the instalation burned to a dvd, are there any files on the dvd that might help ?

Wow how lucky me, someone with the same problem!

I checked and after the installation there is no DPsFnshr.log file at the root of my C:\Windows\ =[
