yeah that question came up once or twice in the last 4 years wink LOL

That is a lot of info to chew on...
If you get stuck its ok to ask us to explain something not clear or out of date! wink
it would be nice if you linked to the reference so we can imporve (hee hee) the documentation big_smile

the mass storage pack is only 5 meg compressed and 32 meg fully expanded and after exceptions and cab compression only has a 9 meg or so footprint on the OS installation...

If you are trying to save space Mass storage is not the place to do it...

It is too important and there is too little gain to make it a worth while task.
Since the cabbed drivers that are used weigh in at like 9 meg, let's say you could cut that in half, you would save about 4 meg... why bother? its a lot of work for a small amount of space to be gained and a HUGE amount of compatability to be lost.

Please remember the goal of DriverPacks is to support ALL hardware... deleting drivers is the antithesis of that.

Yes it can be done
I wrote the how to - and sticked it
in the FAQ section of the forum.

Please take a look around there is not one aspect of DriverPacks that is not documented here somewhere!

review
- Removing drivers bad
- adding drivers good...
- removing mass storage drivers VERY bad big_smile

But it can be done and is well documented...
Search terms Prune or Pruning

your best bet is to drop DriverPack Graphics C to eliminate older drivers wink

Class is dismissed... see you tommorow!

Glad we were able to get you to the finish line!

Have a great day and thanks for letting us know it was resolved!

neogeo123 wrote:

Can you please advise on the changes in this pack from the 1 on the main site? thanks

NO... test packs are not for the public...

the testing team has access to that info in a private forum
If you were on the testing team you would have access to that info...

If we would like you to test a pack on specific hardware you will be invited to do so...
the changelog will be posted publicly when it is finaled and released.
Test packs are not supported for the general public

You are almost more acurate.
If you are going to attempt to add the 2k support you must disable it
or disable one of the other 2k drivers that is enabled.
Or you will crash 2k by exceeding the memory limit

So if you were going to add it for 2k as well you must also disable it like so... (or an alternate one)

[T]
ms_count=2
ms_1_deviceName="TOSHIBA RAID (XP/2K3)"
ms_1_tag="KR10N"
ms_1_sysFile="KR10N.sys"
ms_1_hwids="PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2653&SUBSYS_0F101179,PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C5&SUBSYS_0F101179"
ms_1_isBusExtender=false
ms_1_exc_skipIfOS="w2k"
ms_2_deviceName="TOSHIBA RAID (2K)"
ms_2_tag="KR10N2K"
ms_2_sysFile="KR10N2K.sys"
ms_2_hwids="PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2653&SUBSYS_0F101179,PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C5&SUBSYS_0F101179"
ms_2_isBusExtender=false
ms_2_exc_skipIfOS="wxp,w2k3"
ms_2_exc_disableIfOS="w2k"

but yeah you had the right idea
- it just would have crashed 2k had you actually tried it as you posted it... wink
since ricktendo did not add the 2k support he would not have had that problem... wink

I apprecieate the good thinking though... you just lacked a little experience... that now you have gained!

jeff

Just to be crystal clear we have reached the limit of the number of drivers that win2k can support years ago, to add a new driver to win2k now one of the other win2k drivers must first be disabled. or win2k WILL crash.

I probably would have done what rick did since requests for win2k drivers are almost non existent...
although he more correctly might have put ms_1_exc_skipIfOS="w2k" instead of the disableifos...
but it would not have caused a crash in win2k like your version...
but you are correct about the addition of the second section to support 2K is more complete.

Yes it appears on the surface to be done correctly, perfect even! Sorry I did not test it or run the kickarse hwids tool on it. did you use the latest nightly or the latest release for a starter point?

I am gettting ready to take a run at the base code again with some down time on my hands.
if it works for you i would cal that a WIN!!! smile we will get it added to the latest nightly...

It appears to be correctly done... good job!

Unfortunately we are still under-manned on the DriverPacks team, sorry about that.

IDK if this was added to a nightlie off the top of my head... Normaly we would compare the HWID's contained in your driver  ms_1_hwids="PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2653&SUBSYS_0F101179,PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C5&SUBSYS_0F101179"
to ensure they do not already exist in the INF... i will assume that is done and that the tag name is unique...

Perfect...

Want to take a stab at updating the pack?

I had such high hopes for entertainment value from someone with such a big mouth.

I saw that it was only one month newer. often newer drivers are more unstable. It takes time and feedback (like yours) then testing. We are now most of the way there... I am sure our testing team members (like BigBrit) will see this and run with it... you may just be the first noob to post an official release wink

let's wait and see...

They were editing part of a file they should not have been wink I am sure it was unintentional.

Marked Solved...

Thanks again for reporting it... I am sure you will save (or have saved) people time and effort!

Have an Awesome day!

PS It would be considered polite to tell us (Anyone who trips over this thread)
If there will be (or is) an update to the offending patch.
Or a thread / post where the "fix" can be found if the update is not yet posted...
TIA

Welcome to DriverPacks eLtangaZ

we have that forum already its called "Feedback and Support - DriverPacks Base" http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewforum.php?id=1

I can only guess at this... advanced hardware requires basic hardware to be installed first.
so it may be that you need to run it wonce to install chipset and other basic drivers reboot and then re run SAD...

It may also be that DPInst.exe will simply fail on certain drivers... that may be beyond our control.

we welcome additional info and feedback from you...

Have a great day and thanks for helping us to help you!

everything looks right... IDK why it fails just from looking at it it would seem to be in order

it does not matter where you call the finisher... as long as you do wink

the log is in systemroot (windows)

I agree Looks fine to me...

newsposter must have been tired after a long day! tongue

Thanks for contributing and for providing great details.
We don't ususaly update drivers just because there is a new one.
We update drivers to solve issues... No issue has ever been reported with the old driver wink

If we can get some people to test the new driver and no issues are reported we will add the update.
First it needs to be tested...
i assume you tested it
and now bigbrit will
perhaps we can get more feedback from other users...
and get it added.

Heck you just updated a main pack solo and even named it properly...

very well done!

Welcome to DriverPacks and have a great day!

That will make all the difference
thanks again for reporting!

Welcome to DriverPacks scp2008,

This is by design, it is not an error.
DriverPacks is designed for unattended installs.
The OOBE (regional settings ect) is an attended feature.

DO NOT use KTD...

We do not directly support attended installations with a slipstream disc.
You can however try useing the SAD feature of DriverPacks BASE.
add ONLY mass storage textmode to your image from DriverPacks BASE
use DriverPacks BASE to create a SAD folder
then call SAD from runonce or guirunonce (or run it manually)...

PS excellent details and description thank you so much it makes support so much easier.

Thank you very much for the report! We always like to know if we are missing something.

Unfortunately it may not be possable without the HWID. We will look at it.

Welcome to DriverPacks and have a great day.

lets see the winnt.sif

I would have done this differently...
i would have added one runonce entry that called your script.

and then run all the apps from the script directly... that would be much easier to trouble shoot too. wink

If you give a copy of windows to anyone at all you are a pirate.
Even if you only give it to them to "look at".

They call that "Redistribution of files"... and is a violation of license -
- that makes it stealing, and against your religion.
as a matter of fact "Redistribution of files" is specifically mentioned in the EULA.
Several projects have been shut down by MS for not observing this rule.
No matter where you live or how old you are you can't share your windows files.
it is potentially a $50,000 dollar fine.
THINK about it they call it COPYWRITE that means you are not allowed to COPY it - DUH

you fail to understand...

you say this is not our matter "it is a MS matter"...
That is only true until:
  you tell us that you are doing it at that point it becomes OUR matter.
  You involved us.
  You admitted it (your piracy) to us.
  That makes it our matter.
  You made it our matter,
  Your mistake.  (I lost count now how many was that...)

- We take this matter seriously

maybe since you are young - that is the reason you have not learned respect, at least not yet.
You don't respect your elders.
You don't respect people who have more experience than you ever will.
You don't respect MS or their copyright
       I didn't like ME nor do I like Vista, but I still respect the fact that
       MS has provided the best alternative for an OS since the 80's.
          It has never been the argument of whether some other OS was better
          (for the public) It is always Which MS OS is best...
          And you don't think that is worth paying for.
       If something works well for you 24/7 then it has value and therefore worth buying,
       thus keeping organizations that provide working solutions or quality programs alive.
You don't respect the law.
You have not respected the time that you have wasted...
Your total lack of respect - especially to me in particular - annoys me
your lack of respect for the law and absence of morals angers me.

I have several valid reasons to feel the way I do, and you have personally provided me every one of those reasons.

The worst part in all this is you don't even acknowledge / realize that you are breaking the law. that you are a pirate and can be held liable for your actions. You are a very bad boy and you have admitted it in a public forum. You should have been sorry... but you were not, in fact you tried to justify your piracy. Wrong answer. Being a pirate is an illegal activity... even in YOUR country and even at YOUR age! So since you will not acknowledge that i am better at DriverPacks than you are and you won't be made to feel sorry for pirating software i think your stay here is getting shorter and shorter.

dp_inst_tool.cmd
- dp_inst_tool was deliberately written to be a Simple and Basic batch file for Beginners to use as example. There is a post on here (the forum you haven't read) where a very bright lad wrote an awesome alternative for the tool it had logging and path error checking, all of that. he even offered it to us. do you know what we did... I said in that thread "I am going to make dp_inst_tool even more simple. I will make it so ANY idiot could read it. Advanced users don't need support anyway!"... Do you know what they say about making sh*t idiot proof. Don't bother they will just invent a better idiot. Which, of course, brings us to you.  He actually said to me at that time ANYBODY could read it now... why make it more simple. I can't wait to show him this thread. LOL
- It's only 75 lines including the blanks.
- And most importantly it works and has been tested by thousands of people...
- the simple batch file is not meant to be a display of talent it is quite deliberately the opposite.
- is the command required... no - does it break anything... also no.

- you don't even know how dpinst.exe works,  that was why you started posting here...
   cause you didn't read the MS documentation on DPInst.exe either LOL
   Or you read it and were unable to comprehend it (more likely)
DPInst.exe is the core of what you're claiming to utilize better than I am... Huh. [scratches head]
Look at it this way... If you are better at this than me, then why do you need my help???

ROFL yours was better? my sides hurt from laughing......
my kids throw way better temper tantrums than you do.
You need to work on that too. is anybody keeping count...

if you are redistributing windows then you are a pirate....
(you are an admitted pirate and furthermore you advocate piracy)
if you are a pirate you do not get support from us...
(you do not get any further support from us)

Have a nice day.

PS
I suspect this is going to be a warez disk soon,

Please proceed and i will notify the authorities or your piracy...
I have your email and IP address and times it was used.
can you say huge fines and jail?
Your scripts are now documented, like a signature, that will lead straight to you.

My reputation is well known... they will know you are lying.

now i have passed annoyed and approaching anger, proceed with extreme caution.

the expert kickarse
iam not using SAD
i used the "Disc" option from the Base
selected M2 for my already slipstreemed sp3 windows pro
selected all the main Driverspacks u provide plus another 3rd party DriverPacks
total of them r 24 ones
iam not using any 3rd party Progs to integrate things like nLite, AutoImage, HFSlip
i integrated all hotfixes & updates as Microsoft instructed
i want my disk to be public so i did not trim or shrink anything like kids do
iam using arabic mui installed during T13 with its up_to_date updates
i installed the familiar applications for the public like
Office with its up_to_date updates
WMP with its up_to_date updates,JAVA,YahooMess,
.Net frameworks 1 & 2 with thier up_to_date updates plus some registry tweaks approved by Microsoft away from the myths that are done without advantages

every thing is done unattended & worked properly
DriverPacks decompressed at the early stage of GUI Mode
drivers installed well as normal at T35
what i did ?
i deactivate the finisher and used my above method to install any new added HW manually

what i did now is instead of 24 packs to be decompressed at the early stage of GUI Mode i use only the main 10 packs u provide to save time
the other packs i kept them for the manual method as discribed above

now...
i got small problem that is
my machine has two display adaptors one is integrated with
the MB the other is detached
although i disabled integrated one from the Bios
but is still is recognized by windows
& both are installed during unattended installation
the problem is my desktop icons disappeared
i restore them when i disabled integrated display adaptor from
Device Manager

will this problem get corrected in my next installation when i allow the
finisher runs as normal during Runonceex stage?

iam going to test this
