So removing the RIS drivers WORKED?  WTH?

I really hate Nvidia drivers! sad

The VirtualBox HWID is 8086:2829 (Intel ICH8M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller).
My Windows guest installation is Windows XP Professional with SP3.

Additionally, I tried theses "floppy disks" from Intel website, all of them, except 7.8.0.1012, stopped at same stage on GUI-mode setup:
7.8.0.1012 - OK
8.2.2.1001 - BSoD
8.6.0.1007 - BSoD
8.7.0.1007 - BSoD
8.8.0.1009 - BSoD
8.9.0.1023 - BSoD
9.6.0.1014 - BSoD

Well done!  That's a pretty definitive list!  That certainly narrows things down.

I'll get this into the main pack right away.
It's not that the packs don't need testing, DISM is very good at reporting .inf integration errors.  So a huge chunk of testing is done by DISM so we don't have to.
I always do test integrations to check for errors before uploading.
Maybe we need to rethink the broader scope of testing.
I just thought you were on vacation big_smile.
We need you back!

Please continue your reports!
You are correct in your assumptions.  If a device doesn't have a driver on the CD, setup should continue and you just won't see the drive from setup.  But, if there's an incompatible driver that is trying to match the HWID, then that could cause a BSOD.
I've read through some of the info in the Dell post and I agree that something is sitting on the ACPI bus that is causing the problem, not necessarily the Mass Storage drivers.
Did you try changing the hard drive to a different brand?

I can't login either.  The Third Party DriverPacks server is still on dreamhost IIRC.  It might be a temporary outage.

You got me.  Looks fine from here.  Are you sure you don't have any previous dpms slipped in your source and you've deleted the QSC directory...right?
Do previous versions of dpms work on this system?
It's always possible that new driver just won't work on the new system.

Which pack is this in (x86/x64)?  And what driver is causing the problem?  Folder?
I just updated all the Intel drivers, does this solve it?

I just added HECI & SOL drivers to 10.07.
I grabbed the ones from Intel, not Dell.  They should be the same though.  Does it work?

I've created a separate RIS Third Party DriverPack few weeks back.  Should I remove the RIS drivers from the main DriverPack LAN?
That might solve the problem.

Well intermittent problems are by far the most difficult to diagnose.
Do you have an external usb DVD you can try?  Sounds to me like the drive is having trouble reading burned discs but pressed discs are OK.  Classic laser problem.
Check the disc in another system by installing to VirtualBox.  If the disc also fails on another system, then it could be a bad burn.

Checking the SMART data on the HDD would also be a good idea.

It's alright.  PE confuses me sometimes too.
I know what the problem is.
When I added the Dell driver, I forgot to change the name of the .inf.  PE will only grab the first file of a group of same-name files.
The rest of the files are the same version that's in \I\.  So I could save some space and just copy over the Dell .inf file to \I\ but we'll need to make sure it works first. wink
I'll upload 1007r2 in a short while.
Try this: link removed
It's always possible that this chip just may not have PE compatible drivers out there.
