Wim is working on the metadata on the main site... I populated the site with input from a program i wrote...
Wim is now rewriting that program in python and experimenting with different layouts like xml vs. ini and the site will be in a state of flux as the upgrades are massaged into a more polished final product. The main idea is a search engine that will return all packs that support a given HWID... Pretty cool eh?

Pardon our dust, but some really cool stuff is in the works!

I agree... But if they can not produce the disc or the Key or the purchase recipt then they don't have  a legit copy do they?

When i worked in a PC shop this was our policy.
If you cant provide the original install disc with Key or at least Proof of purchase - end of discussion.


You could extract the files and reg entries from the image with no problem. But, I won't do this if they can't produce the install disc / Key... They call that piracy.

But how do you load a specific program from the ghost image?

It is strange... it cabs all the mass storage drivers NP. It is just setup.exe that is at issue. I can think of no logical reason for this.

And that is the best news we have had to date... Because that means a fix is close at hand!

Unfortunately we have several reports of similar issues by the testing team...

No one has been able to isolate the issue to a single pack...

The possablility exists it is a conflict between two third party packs...

the best advice we can offer is to try it with half the 3rd party DriverPack and then the other half. try to isolate it to a group first then narrow it to a pack or a limited combo of them...

the more info that is reported on this the faster we can get to the answer... if you have time we would love to hear more of your results.

This is not the first time we have had a cab compression issue... A search of our forum will yield many results for this and similar issues. However as i reviewed them i saw no common denominator... you can look too if you like...

Did you try to redownload DriverPacks BASE... perhaps it is a simple corupt download?

I asked specificaly about setup.ex_ ? is it read only (yes / no)

most AV programs will alert you, so that is probably not it... but checking the Log / quarantine is still a good idea just in case.


since DriverPacks BASE has millions of users and you are the only one with this issue we know that it is something quite specific that you alone are doing that several million other users are not... you have provided no info so far that helps isolate what that may be... but together we will continue to try to narrow it down...

I am really convinced that some AV or SpyWare program is interfering... just a guess

I Always image a machine before i begin work...
Ghost, disc image (forensic mode)...
(always verify image and open with GhostExplorer before formating target)
Then I  Always  virus scan - off line from BartPE...

Any settings files or registry entries may be retrieved at any time from a good backup (Ghost image) wink

Look at the size of the registry after a repair :0

On access scanning / your antivirus program? (false positive)

C:\XPOEM\I386\SETUP.EX_  is read only?
(this attribute should have been removed by DriverPacks BASE --> 2009-08-17 18:13:57 : <PREP> Removed all attributes from \I386.

LOL the one it is currently in wink (he moved it already) Hee hee he...

the source path looks a little wild... it contains a "." and a " - " it may be a nested quote issue with DriverPacks BASE...

could you try useing a plain path like C:\DPsBASE\ and report if the issue still exists, or not?.

Just to be clear you were able to get it to work with all the drivers in the pack. you jsut changed the load order in the DriverPack MassStorage INI file?

It is our belief that all known hardware is supported for 2k 2k3 and XP...

If you find one that is not let us know. We will add it...

Since we average over a million downloads a week there are not many devices (if any) that have not yet been added...

Put another way... try it first. There is a 99.999999% chance ANY machine you could possably ever encounter is fully supported.
- Don't bother asking us if it is in there... We won't bother to look for you, sorry... because the odds that it is not supported are about one in a million...

But...
We never know if something is missing until somebody reports that missing unit wink
Since we have been adding drivers to Mass Storage and our other DriverPacks for over Five Years they are quite complete big_smile.

If you are not doing an unattended Install (like when doing a repair) then you don't need an unattended response file do you smile

Look at presetup.cmd wink

Better yet, try it  run devpath on a D\ folder and look at that key afterwards wink

You seem to have confirmed that larger files transfer faster...
   Even when they are not copied from an ODD.

I don't think it is a good idea to start combining all of our packs into one single huge pack wink
But. It is nice to know that if we do then we can shave about 25% off our extraction time.

Our users may combine them if they wish to do so big_smile

PS the delay is windows Delayed Write (Disc caching) as you suspected wink
