added a new reference "How to Ask Questions The Smart Way" to the posting guidelines section http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html

He explains it so much better than I could ever put into words.
- I should have googled it wink. it would have saved me the time of attempting to say what he has already written LOL.
I even gleened a few tips from the section on how to respond tongue.

most of the high end creative cards (and others too) require that their Setup.exe is run after the basic driver is installed.

If the setup is not run the card will not function or will function in a diminished capacity.

therefore the Full installer must be included in the pack...
These are huge since it is not simply the driver files, but all the control panels and related applications as well.

There is no way around this... It has always been so...
The size of these installers continues to grow with age only making it worse.

BartPE would be a valid test too wink

At least of the text mode drivers...

thanks for reporting it helps a lot!

there have been several revisions of nightlies since this post... were not quite done yet... stay tuned!

was this a new install? did you use DriverPacks with your new install? what OS are you installing? SP level?

can you check out read before you post in my signature? DPs_BASE.log is helpful and will answer many of our questions.

did you folow our tutorial? (link in my signature)

LOL my daughter bult her first pc out of my scrap parts when she was nine wink.

it is nothing to be intimidated by...
It is pretty straight forward stuff
Most MB manuals have good instructions wink
(check out some MB manuals online, perhaps one you are thinking of buying)

I recomend NewEgg.com for parts - good place to do business.

I like GigaByte MotherBoards best, followed closely by Asus and DFI. They are all three well made and well supported.

Never use the power supply that comes with a cheap (<$75) cabinet. Get a good PS like an Antec TruePower or equivilent 100% duty rating.

do your homework make sure your processor and RAM are compatable with your MB.
(read the online MB manual before you buy the ram and processor for it)

Have fun!

The odds you will melt the whole thing into an expensive blob of goo is quite low tongue

Um we are THE guys who install drivers from pack.
(The original and The best)

thus our name DriverPacks

Welcome to DriverPacks

tutorial in my signature

those other guys don't have as good an archive as us... and they charge.

http://3rdpartydriverpacks.thesneaky.co … _090220.7z

It was probably merged / added to one of the other packs...

I am just guessing since the orginal above file was moved to our archive folder.

Let us know if it helps

Welcome to DriverPacks

have a great day

I don't really care how good you think it is... or even how good they think it is...

If it is reporting false positives... then it is junk smile
How much of your time has been wasted, just on this issue?
What about our wasted time?
If someone wastes a few hours of IT time it will definately cost them more than what they thought that they had saved on the AV program. (even worse if they paid a premium price) tongue  False positives cost time, lots of time, and time is money.

Can you confirm the virus using another scanner of your choice?

Have you submitted the file to Quick Heal for evaluation?
did you check the hash on the file before and after your process to see if it actually is being changed?
were you able to reproduce the exact same result each time (IE more than once)
Are you runing any service packs as part of your setup that might update this file?

I assume you are doing on access scanning...
your source shows no virus,
DriverPacks shows no virus,
DriverPacks has to be the last step in your process before ISO creation..
So where does it come from?
(It is a magic teleporting virus that can add itself to WORM media smile)

(( You never answered my question:

Was the network card plugged in during the install?
(link light on, and conncted to a network... and possibly the internet
- I am going to bet the answer to that question is YES. Since it went unanswered)

that would explain different results each time... you are just getting a different virus from the net each time you install lol. if you give a machine internet access during an install you will have a virus before you get to the desktop. wink even local network access is risky tongue

[are you installing from disc?]
If so just pull the network cable until you have your AV / Firewall in place big_smile.
Does the issue still exist?

))

We don't use Zip... and don't fool with ANY windows dll files.
txtsetup dosnet and setup... that is it, just those three.
we include our own un7zip app...

None of the team has heard of this AV...
collectively we service tens of thousands of machines. (daily)
DriverPacks is downlaoded at the rate of at least a million times a week.
this is the only report out of our tens of millons of users of this issue.
No one at all out of all those people also sees this issue... think about it...

the reviews you point to are all on their site... and not one of them is noteworthy...
Who cares if the  Mahratta Chamber of Commerce gave them an award???
(It is a small town with a specialty every one of the businesses is chocked full with MVPs CCIE's and other who saids)

I don't see a single reputable source, like Consumer Reports or PC magazine, in the list...

Google top AV programs / reviews
Check ANY independent list of top AV programs and topheal is not on their list.

So if they can't make a single top ten list, ever not once in 15 years... I think we can all agree it's junk.
And if you really paid as much as you would for Norton then you got taken to the cleaners.
I am sure they have no resources that even come close to compare to SARC.
Although I must admit i have been very disapointed with where Norton has gone since Peter left. I have stopped recomending all of their products for years now.

Either
1 resolve the issue with your process
2 resolve false positive with your prefered AV,  or get one that works...

Issue marked solved...

without including the HWIDs (or DPs_BASE.log or DPsFnshr.log) for device that fails...
the reports are absolutely no help at all...

We do want the packs to be perfect.

You have to help us to help you... that is how it works...

Consider please...

We are not psychic nor are we magicians.
Neither to we have every single hardware device ever sold to test with
(All cataloged and stored individualy in hermeticaly sealed envelopes in the secret DriverPacks environmentaly controled hardware warehouse and archive)

Since we have established that we don't have your hardware wink.

There is no way for us to know the HWID unless you tell us.
Without at LEAST that info we can't even begin to try to fix it.
(needle in a haystack) *problem only exists on your end wink

You may not be aware that the HWID is the thing the computer actually uses to MATCH a device with its driver

It would be like trying to buy a car part and then telling the parts guy you don't know what kind of a car you have (or the model or year)... wink. Sorry about your luck. Estimated odds of success, Zero...
To finish the analogy... suppose you took your VIN number off the dash to your parts guy?

you said XP... that narrows it down to about 4096 (possable OS's x Versions x SP levels)

home, pro
oem, retail, corp, Vol,
Service pack levels; none, 1, 2, 3

not to mention slipstreams, SIF files, Etc...

the link in mr_smartepants signature (and in mine) is there for a reason...
If you are unable to provide the clearly itemized list of info, then we can't help you...

so to keep it simple

If you don't have the HWIDs or
If you can't provide DriverPacks BASE and the DriverPacks verisons you used or
If you fail to include the OS and Service Pack version (we do support 2k xp and 2k3 and multiple sp levels for each)
If you fail to include your process (nLite, RVM, Slipstreamed HotFixes or ServicePacks)
if you are unable to test a nightly pack, one that we might belive fixes the issue...

Then you have not been helpful to anyone, not even yourself wink

Help us to help you!
Provide the requested info. Please.

What file is infected?

Where did you obtain your XP source disc? is it a MS hologramed unit?

was the machine connected to the network during the install?

you can now see how it is easy it is for me to get lost, when all the pertinent info is not contained in the first post?
That is why i refer people to read before you post with regularity. Just for people with short attentions spans like me...
That way i can review the first post and get the full picture without haveing to read through all 10 posts each time wink tongue big_smile

so how did it work with you adding a folder?
I assume you added a section in the mass ini with only your hwid   PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C5&CC_0106

OK... in 909r6 we have

[I1] = Version 5.5.0.1035  ---- UNTESTED
[--] = Version 6.2.0.2002  ---- COMPATIBLE
[I2] = Version 7.0.0.1020  ---- UNTESTED
[I3] = Version 7.8.0.1012  ---- INCOMPATIBLE [DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_901r3]
[--] = Version 8.6.0.1007  ---- PARTIALLY COMPATIBLE  [DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_901]
[I4] = Version 8.9.2.1002  ---- INCOMPATIBLE [DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_909r6]

I would move the hwid to I2 and test that...

If that fails I would add 6.2.0.2002 in D\M\I8\ and move  PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C5&CC_0106 to a new section in the mass ini file [I8] It will probably only need to contain the one hwid that you require...

compare your version to the existing version(s) IE (date stamp, Provider and version from inf, also the date and size of .SYS file)

best of luck and thanks for helping us!

PS have you tried or are you useing the latest nightly mass storage pack?

try moving the HWID to the 6.2 version in the MASS INI...

Never edit the drivers inf files - doing so breaks driver signing and cripples the driver wink

If we do not have a compatable driver you can add a folder (or replace one) and a add a matching section in the mass INI (or update one)...

We support the installation of the driverpacks with DriverPacks BASE

other methods may work... but they are not supported

try installing them as designed... Then you won't have any problems wink

It has not been written yet...

   would you like to? smile

Well i couldn't find that in the native drivers or in the Graphics C pack...

do you have a link to a 'tested and known to be good' driver (perhaps from Nvida) that works? We will slip it in! big_smile

PS... We do apprecieate that you tried to search for a related topic (Yea! He used serarch - Woo Hoo!).

However the main Topic of this thread is in regards to the UNI to ANSI issue i fixed a couple of years ago wink

Let's Do a new thread in Graphics Forum with a title that begins with [REQ] Nvidia RIVA.
A link to here and a link to find the tested known good driver would be considered most polite.

Thanks for the feedback, it makes DriverPacks better for everyone

Riva is natively supported by XP

you are useing an older version of the hwids tool...

raid devices and compatable hwid info is not included... can we see the ouput of the current HWIDs tool>?

it is my belief that now the problem is you have included more than the maximum allowed drivers (you have run out of RAM)
Remember our path and other environment variables have half the space they do for normal window operations and installation...

If i am right the correct and most acceptable fix is to include fewer drivers. however if you have an extra 2k3 licence to burn you can use the file from that OS... Each OS has a higher amount of RAM that can be utilized for this... IE win 2k has the least XP has more 2K3 a little more Vista even more etc. So the alternate fix is to burn a 2K3 licence so you can use the newer NT 5.2 version of our problem file. Some users have argued that since this file is included with SP2... IDK about that, it's too much of a grey area for me. If you are in the situation of having site licencing or simply have an extra 2k3 license to dedicate for this then you should be covered. smile

If it is what i think it is...
then this issue is documented at MSFN and I thought was google-able but did not find what i was looking for...

Perhaps one of the guys has a link handy for us... That is, IF i have guessed corectly wink

PS i assume you ruled out a bad copy wink

now by searchin the mass ini for those ids i can see which driver matches for textmode and by searching the pack i can find any compatable drivers wink I can then match those to a driver you link me to that we know works... (do you have a link to a working driver)
perhaps we jsut need to add that HWID to an existing driver (probably the case)

1,873

(12 replies, posted in Other)

Please note that the HWID is different depending on the mode selected in the BIOS for the device...

AHCI = PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2926&CC_0106
IDE   = PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2926&CC_0101

106 ahci and 101 IDE

in this way a seperate driver may be assigned to each mode wink

and what were the hwids in IDE / compatability mode?

I am pretty sure the driver included in the packs is for vmware workstation 5... not for vmware server...

the Drivers\SCSIAdapter method should still work...

Are you useing the same version of vmware you were previously useing?

there are some drivers that have issues with "Parameters\PnpInterface", "5", 0x00010001, 0x00000001" entry...
if this is the case cdob and a few others have posted a work around here at DriverPacks for both BartPE and windows.

thanks for reporting and welcome to DriverPacks!
