Re: Asus X51R ati radeon xpress 1100 (38 replies, posted in DriverPack Graphics)
OK, here's the problem.
Your HWID is a correct match in the mobility.inf file I wrote, but it matches for a XPress 200M series, NOT the Xpress 1100 that you have.
Hmmm, I'll have to dissect the ASUS drivers to see what they did. I may have to add lines to the mobility.inf to support it.
See, this is why ATI doesn't normally support laptop chipsets directly, they leave it up to the vendor to make their own to support any custom features/resolutions.
I don't understand why their drivers are so huge. 117MB seems unreasonable to me. Downloading now.
BTW, I'm changing the G_A dp to add the old GART driver back in (with a finisher exception) and removed the WDM folder (in G_B\A5\).

I'll try to fix the documentation for building the G_A dp. I'll upload the tools and/or links I use as well.
This is especially important now since I won't be around to help for a few months.

Re: Asus X51R ati radeon xpress 1100 (38 replies, posted in DriverPack Graphics)
I'm not sure it'll work with the G_A DP. I'm downloading the IGP drivers from ATI to have a look. I might have to implement some of them into either the chipset or graphics_a DP.
I'll have a look.
BTW, your graphics chip WAS detected properly, otherwise it would just show generic "Display Adapter" under your device manager.
Something else isn't right.

Are you sure it doesn't work with the new G_A DP? It's the same driver that nvidia recommends.
Well, if you REALLY need it, the oldest I found was the G_A 6.08.1 and 6.12 versions. You can grab them at:

http://driverpacks.mirror.thesneaky.com … -32_612.7z
Good luck.

Vista64 installed w/SP1. This thing flies! Who wants what benchmarks?
The heatsink is huge, but all of the weight is near the base. I'm not too happy with the mounting push-pins. The last one was a bitch to set.
Oh, and I built my SP1 integrated ISO with the ultimate extras built in using the winbeta.org instructions. That was painful and time consuming.

Hello there,
This is odd, since that HWID is supported in the latest G_A DP and has been for months. Did you use an older G_A dp or the 8.02 release?

Wow, this thing is quick & quiet!
It installed Vista x64, booting from the DVD to sitting at the desktop in under 15 minutes!
Installing SP1 took longer, 30 minutes and 3 restarts.
During the next few hours of playing with it (sorry, no benchmarks yet), the system temp never exceeded 100F (CPU temp was reported as 31C/88F which is odd).
I'm going to try using the M$ WAIK to integrate SP1 into a secondary build, to create my own SP1 integrated DVD.

There is no slipstream version of SP1
Not true.
You can download the SP1-integrated ISO from MSDN or TechNet accounts for OEM users (not retail).
Unfortunately, I don't have either.
You can also make your own integrated ISO using the tute over at winbeta.org. Helmi did it (I think)

A very good place to learn about the unattended process can be found here:
http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.xp/
And it's where I began my lessons.
The section that specifically deals with drivers via winnt.sif is here:
http://unattended.msfn.org/unattended.x … d787e8489/
I think that if you ask around, you'll find that the Army is moving to a unified DVD architecture like we have. The upshot is that it's centrally managed, and universal. The downside is you lose local control over your material.
In any case, read up at msfn. You'll learn a lot, and you have friends here who will always help when asked. Good luck with your Colonel, if he's like mine...you'll need it. (don't forget to include your chain of command in your progress, that's essential)

make sure that mobo has the latest BIOS loaded.
Oh believe me I will! Trouble is, I haven't figured out where they hide the BIOS version number yet. The boot screen flies by so damn fast!
Besides, I only had it on for about 15 min. It's Mother's Day here in the UK, I'm already treading thin-ice as it is.
The PC's will remain off for the rest of the day.

Re: New PC parts on the way! (42 replies, posted in Other)
Fired it up for the first time this morning.
Used the standard Antec Tri-cool fans set to low. Didn't load anything, HDD isn't connected yet, just played around in the BIOS making sure everything was set correctly.
Wow this thing is quiet! I have quieter fans in a box (Yate Loon & Scythe) but I don't know if I'll need them. The 8800GTS fan cranks up to maximum on power-up, then fades into nothingness.
And the CPU temp...That can't possibly be correct.
The BIOS is reporting idle CPU temp as 29C which is about 85F (ambient is 19C/68F). That's too low!
Of course, that was in the BIOS, load testing will come later.

Re: Acer aspire 7220 GeForce 7000M - only 800x600 and 1024x768 (8 replies, posted in DriverPack Graphics)
I don't know what to tell you. nvidia drivers by default fix startup resolution at 800x600:
HKR,, "DefaultSettings.XResolution",%REG_DWORD%,800
HKR,, "DefaultSettings.YResolution",%REG_DWORD%,600
Once in Windows, the detected monitor determines the resolution unless the user overrides the recommended setting.

Woohoo!
Parts are here!
Wow, that heatsink is HUGE! I've taken some pictures before and during the build. I'll fire it up today for some shakedown testing (CPU has a 15-day return window).
The heatsink nearly touches the top fan and the case side panel! Do NOT underestimate how FREAKIN' HUGE this thing is!
It's bigger than four 120mm fans stacked on top of each other! Yes, it's that big.

Re: Questions (10 replies, posted in Other)
How can I make windows know which driver to install and how to install it because some have Inf files others have just setup.exe.
Howdy Private!
Welcome to DriverPacks!
Overflow is correct. You don't have to figure out how to make Windows detect the drivers. You declare the path to the driver pool (%systemdrive%\drivers) in winnt.sif and the driver enumerator takes care of the rest...That is how DriverPacks Method 1 works.
You are correct in the fact that we (DriverPacks.net) redistribute the OEM drivers and as such you can't verify the integrity of the DriverPacks without trusting us implicitly.
I'm a MSgt in the USAF, and we use a custom XP build AF-wide, it's based on sysprep with a customized front-end and uses the winnt.sif method so you're limited on the drivers you can include (4096 char path limit) and no .exe can be run. It's kludgy, but it works for 80% of the systems we deploy. When we come across a system the AFSDC (Air Force Standard Desktop Configuration) does not work on (blue screen), our IT guys drop it on my desk to figure it out. Lucky me.
So, the bad news is that in your official capacity in the Army, you CANNOT use the DriverPacks. But you CAN use the methodology to implement driver install, because it's standard MS protocol.
Clear? Dismissed.

Well, the CPU and the RAM arrived yesterday...in separate boxes.
At least the q6600 is the SLACR G0 stepping, that's the one that overclocks to 3 GHz on stock air cooling!
Too bad the rest of the parts didn't arrive in time for the weekend.
