PS to remove a driver... i have a method for that already

http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=5032

in this way it is never installed... I think...
if there are no hive entries this will remove it.

IDK if removing them is worth the effort... if you think it is then OK big_smile

simple is better, stable is best.

yeah... where is Jaak? we did this whole dance a couple years ago.

try this tech, instead of breaking them out. just change the order in the INI file.
in the past there were cases where the first found match wins. (Order can matter)

why did you not just disable them in the INI file?

it has to do with unresolved conflicts... you only need them if you have the specific issue it addresses (rare).

Q) how did the ISO get on the HDD?
A) it was copied (same as the CD) tongue

in the end the same amount of data was written to the HDD.
So that is not a valid argument.

Can we use an ISO instead of file system? Maybe.

Why would we?
All of the other tools for NT5 require a file system and do not interact with ISO images.
That would mean most users would not want or need it since every other step in preparing an image requires it to be extracted and on a read / write device IE a HDD.

it's not a bad idea, it just does not go with the flow of broadly accepted existing tools and procedures.
and at this point i don't see any of the top players rewriting code for a ten year old OS that expires next year.

I could be wrong.

Jeff

I'm sorry no one has jumped in.

I'm sure that many, like me, have not had the pleasure of deploying 8.1 yet. I am dying to know the answer now also.

It seems like a bug, have you checked Microsoft or technet yet?

MSFN may have a post about it too.

this may help http://social.technet.microsoft.com/For … rohardware

keep us in the loop please

That is a lot of data to copy for no reason.
One of our users once demonstrated that a copy and extract was faster on a ODD. I don't think the same is true for a thumb drive.

Winsetup from USB is what i use...
Lots of names that have been there and done that created it...

I know it works

FOR /R %%X      NOT     IN (

use  NOT or NE  or <>

You'll need to test a little to see which syntax works as expected.

Please revisit my original advise.

instead of INCLUDE, do EXCLUDE. (not equal to)

and exclude these...  "_",  "AX", "VP", "CAB", "CAT", "CMD", "INF", "INI", "EXE"

The best news is it looks like it works just fine big_smile!

150 downloads, no feedback.

Welcome to my world, it feels worse when it's thousands of DL's.
I have come to realize that no feedback = working perfect.
People will definitely show up to bitch if it's broke big_smile.

Sounds like you nailed it Bigfoot

Rats... I was trying to make it easy for ya, sorry.

Don't bury yourself in code, keep it simple we just need proof of concept big_smile.

I can do this very easy if it works.

Does it work???

you could just name the pack(s) with a valid NT5 name and run BASE on it in SAD mode tongue

then you can see how much space is saved and test that the existing method is also valid for NT6.

and not have to write any code ...   Quick and easy

I'm trying to carve out some time for updating BASE SAD and Finisher soon. if it works with the test above then i can code it fast and easy to just do nt6 packs. i can also add and remove extensions from the list, or add exceptions for specific files / folders.

Yeeeee Haw!  veterans are just crawling out of the woodwork.

Who's next, Helmi???  tongue

not only do they both work,
they quite easily compliment each other with  just a hint of collaboration.

Sam was that link for a long time, i never understood why more did not submit work and ideas, and provide the feedback of their experiences.

Good to see you compstuff !

don't forget that win7 has XP mode available too mr_smart

If your HW is new enough to not support XP then win7 is a solid platform and your machine should have  enough power / resources to make it snappy.

Pant's is right about the license.

You do have "downgrade rights" and can substitute XP,

BUT there are rules about which versions of windows have downgrade rights (home versions do not have downgrade rights for example). if you want to downgrade from win7 home you first have to upgrade to win7 pro or better. Otherwise you are in violation of MS EULA.

Win7 is quite solid in my experience.

Hi Anna,

The original poster (or OP) of this thread is pretty awesome.

A. He posted in English, not his native language.
B. He posted that he had read a tutorial, and linked to the one he used. (you might follow that link)
C. He posted some details, the model of the machine and the HWIDs (NICE)
He got all the way through using our DriverPacks BASE with DriverPacks, integrating drivers and testing his work.

He failed to mention what OS, Which version of DriverPacks BASE, which DriverPacks versions, (Or his DPs_BASE.log which includes all that).   But hey over eighty percent on his first post is rockin along pretty darn good. Remember all our help is in english too, which means he learned all this in a foreign language too.

---------------------------------------------

look at the links in mr_smartypants and my posts for help to get started.
try first, then when (if) you get stuck go ahead and ask= but refer to :Read BEFORE you post:

Start your own thread. Don't hijack someone else's.

It will extract on a non intel computer, it won't install.
A search of our forum will yield the answer to   that problem.

the OEM (Original manufacturer) should offer the f6 driver that you seek all by itself big_smile.
unless your OS is not supported by them for that MB.

I don't know why those exceptions are there, not all of them anyway.

That is the list i inherited from Wim that is used in DriverPacks BASE tongue

That code is very old and mostly untouched, at least to date.

Of course we will, Should be quite easy since i have added no patches for SP3 in DriverPacks BASE. I may need to write code to acknowledge it's presence, or not.

ryan's, msfn, 911, etc are long time friends and contributors of DriverPacks.net, please keep us in the loop.

Jaak, I have been idle myself. I think I will have time again, like i did the last time you were here.

You can be a HUGE help right now, today. Look at techdud's Mass and chipset packs and help us get a worthy mass and chipset out. the fallout i expect to be substantial, between the three of us old timers i think we can punch out some nearly final packs. XP will no longer need real updates. We always can, they simply won't be requested often. while we have a little manpower perhaps we can get current.

I am going to see if i can still release a pack properly, I will tackle some NT6 packs which should go without issue.

So... if you can team up with techdud and see what's ready or could be ready that would rock!!!
