Your points are irrelevant.... (sorry)
1 we already have compressed file method available (that would be M1)
You're more than welcome to use it based on your personal beliefs / preference. Enjoy !
2 Why would we be reading thousands of files off the ODD?
(at most we would only read the INF's and then perhaps few more files for a matched driver)
(the infs would likely only be read once and cached both by the drive and the OS)
3 SAD doesnt need to be on an ODD at all...

there is a much more complicated way i could explain to you to do it manually
that would take pages of instructions
the above is straight forward and a 123 process (as it was designed to be)
Try the easy way first.
perhaps copy the current folder so you can compare them after.
if you really want the nuts and bolts of it - I will - be careful what you wish for
PS if you are looking for a simple plugin to learn the ropes with... This ain't it.

Re: [SLV] UBCD4WIN not recognizing ALi M5229 PCI Bus Master IDE (23 replies, posted in BartPE - UBCD4Win - WinPE)
OK...
PCI\VEN_10B9&DEV_5229 is a match for a native windows driver
SP3 = ALIIDE.SY_ in the I386 folder... ALi Corporation 2002 v1.51
SP2 = ALIIDE.SY_ in the I386 folder... Acer Laboratories Inc. 2000 v1.20
We do include an upgrade for this driver
ALIIDE.SYS 2002 ALi Coporation. DriverVer = 03/06/2003, 1.5.1.0
I guess we missed the fact that SP3 includes this driver now, and it doesn't need to be replaced. (if SP3 source)
However since we are "replaceing" it with the exact same driver it 'shouldn't' cause an issue...
the possability exists that the driver in the packs is slightly corrupted or that something in the windows native driver has been tweaked by MS... IDK. Either way we are eliminateing things it is not...
So it appears that i owe you at least 2.5 cents... it is a windows problem and a DriverPacks problem...
if you desire you may extract the mass pack and...
remove the [AU] section from the mass storage ini
Repack with 7zip...
use the base plugin to 'config' your new mass storage pack from pebuilder.
build and test... i think your problem is gone...
@team
This driver should be removed from the INI since our current version is the same as the XP sp3 version.
If Someone slipstreams XP sp2 the native text mode driver should work and it should still be upgraded to the newer version during PnP setup. a win, win scenario if i am correct.
- IE i think we need it for windows but not for text mode so just pull the ini entry and leave the driver
edit.....
this may apply to other drivers in teh mass storage pack too.
IE we may see somthing similar to this again...
there are only a few bus extenders like this one, is it related to that... i think yes...

Re: FindHWIDS v3.2s - The INF Searching, Hardware ID Exporter (353 replies, posted in Software)
the .sys file is renamed to the tag name
and the inf is not needed or used sisnce th inf info has been populated into the source files (txtsetup)
ther is a limit to the number of drivers that canbe added to an OS
2k has the smallest amount and 2k3 the most and xp is in the middle
we have not yet topped out for xp or 2k3 we hit the ceiling for 2k years ago and that is why so many are disabled for 2k if we dont it will BSOD...
IE to add a driver to 2k an existing driver must be disabled...
This is all thorughly documented in several places on the site.
again this file can not be maintained by a program there are too many quirks...
it takes me anywhere from weeks to months to train a noob on the mass storage pack...
ask the team... You would have begun to beat your head against the wall just as Jaak did when he first started doing the mass storage pack. It's insane really. Things that should work fine just don't...
(search for Silly Cone hill or 3112 or silicon hill or 3124 and get a glimpse of insanity)
I am offering to keep you from pulling your hair out... all you have to do is accept
again the more we talk the more it seems you have laid the groundwork and in so doing motivated me...
it is simple matter for me to do this with the support of a team... and i know there is a handful of you guys
Skinlayers, detard, JakeLD, yourself, galepo and dome others that will fill in the gaps in my experience and provide test results...
your tool has inspired me, and i have cleared the "back burner" stuff i was working on...
you have made life easier for the team and myself
you have contributed to the greater good of the comunity
So allow me to help you now lets add the sysprep platform to base
with your existing dedication and a few testers we can make this happen,
and we can make sure it gets done in a world class fashion
and i dont even feel like i have to ask you if your on board - i because i jsut know you are
PS no... XP is always nt 5.1 (or build 2600)
PSS it may help if you add me to your IM, so we can expidite the exchange of info that is inevitable.
we can then summarize our findings in the forum for more consise reading by a user.

Re: FindHWIDS v3.2s - The INF Searching, Hardware ID Exporter (353 replies, posted in Software)
no i dont think it will ever be possable to have the mas storage ini generated by a program...
at least the result would not be as good as if it were done by hand...
IE we would get 20 posts a day about 000007b BSOD after first reboot...
there are too many things that only experience can provide the solution for...
(because they don't make sense or are inconsistent)
this is the key to what makes DriverPacks unique. anybody can put some drivers in a zipfile
and is why i belive the mass INI should be the source for your sysprep output...
this is in effect the same as stealing the bartpe code...
which is a path for me to explore for createing the sysprep output.
a slight mod to the bartpe code might not be that tough of a row to hoe...
perhaps most of the bartpe code is already appropriate for provideing the output

Re: FindHWIDS v3.2s - The INF Searching, Hardware ID Exporter (353 replies, posted in Software)
you have reached teh point where teh rest of the work is done for you in the mass storage INI
by parseing the contents of that file you will be a base plugin in thst your tool will use the info in the current packs INI and then be compatable with all the mass storage packs previous and yet to be released it also allows for people who are familiar or wish to learn the ability to easily customize everything. including extending the number of drivers that can be included by useing the existing tag names to rename the duplicately named files again automaticaly and with known good substitutions.
this was my plan to do in base... i havent had the time to see what actually needs done...
i plan to use the output of your tool to see what i must get base to generate.
by having a known good pattern established i can easily code base to provide said output...
i just need to know what sysprep expects \ tolerates ...
as i reviiew my thoughts above... i belive you have placed the ball in my court sir...
looks like sysprep may be our squeeky wheel at this point...
think about it and i am here for any questions as always...

there was an issue... i fixed it last year
I created a workaround useing a command line switch, but in the process of createing the workaround i fixed the problem and the command line switch was not neccessary, however it is still available.

new command line switch by request /proxy
Usage /proxy:"LocalProxy:Port"[,"Username","Password"]

Re: FindHWIDS v3.2s - The INF Searching, Hardware ID Exporter (353 replies, posted in Software)
You're correct
The registry entry doesnt have this limit, and that is how we implement the search path with M2.
however i still think that a shorter path is more effecient / faster, even if more than 4096 is allowed...

Re: FindHWIDS v3.2s - The INF Searching, Hardware ID Exporter (353 replies, posted in Software)
he means the total number of sub-folders contained...
with m1 there is a path limitation of 4096 characters - this may also apply to sysprep IDK...
so PATH length can be a show stopper and has always been a concern for the layout of the DriverPacks.
you may have noticed we use the bare minimum number of alphanumeric sequences to our drivers
deliberately to avoid the 4096 cut off (all entries after 4096 are ignored)...

the mass storage ini is pre tweaked to provide the most comprehensive support available today...
Thanks to our dedicated team who have worked for untold hours massageing it towards perfection.
you may also not that several of the txt mode drivers have 'tag' entries. we use those tags to rename certain drivers taht would ordinarily be over written by a same name file...

Re: [SLV] UBCD4WIN not recognizing ALi M5229 PCI Bus Master IDE (23 replies, posted in BartPE - UBCD4Win - WinPE)
based on the age and type of machine standard IDE drivers apply
IE you don't need a driver your HDD is natively supported by the OS.
controller type = Standard IDE
I belive that you can skip the adding a driver step. you should just be able to disable the DriverPacks plugin and still be able to see the HDD useing only XP's included drivers.
PS We don't replace native drivers we supplement them. so the driver you are useing in this stinkpad is most likely the XP driver and not a DriverPacks driver at all...
