devpath used correctly will update the pnp path in the registry...

IE devpath c:\D
assuming there is a folder on C: named 'D' that contains drivers in folders wink

this is necessary because of the MS Limit of 4096 and the sysprep limit of 2047 for the OemPnPDriversPath.
DEVPATH has no limit (your post above is not clear on this point, in fact it states the opposite)

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DevicePath

pnf are just cached lists of the available drivers, it speeds up detection and location of drivers.

We Don't consider these second class tools    their creators are honoured by us...
And we are Lucky to have these guys allow us to use their tools...
We credit them and respect their copyrights.
(I assume you would get permission from them for useing these for a non personal use?)

and they are quite well documented everywhere here and in the included files
and on many of our friends sites like MSFN for example.

Thanks for your interest. Take a look around, and play with it, let us know.

Have a great day...

The best details about us (I thought) were on pages 10 and 11

I added the tag... smile

no you can not tell for sure if the drivers are working from a VM. A VM has no actual hardware wink

You will have to test it on your target machine to be absolutely certain...
there is a 99.9 percent chance it is covered. You could post the HWID for your video card, and we can see if the HWID is included. This would still not be as accurate of a test, as a real live test install on your target machine. Most of us keep an old HDD handy (or install to a secondary drive or partition IE  D: ) to 'live' test install.

The VM will tell you if you have set all other aspects of your installation disc (except your drivers) correctly. big_smile

the article missed one big program to help you... WPI
Windows Post Installer installs your applications after the windows setup...
IE Office, Java, Flash, adobe reader or whatever apps you normally install.
WPI makes your install disc a complete solution for disaster!

hint: if you are trying to fit these on CD put WPI on it's own CD(s) wink

I did not see where he actually says this but he hit bulls-eye.
It is better to spend a few hours to setup an unattended install once,
than to spend a few hours every time you need to reinstall.
most unattended installs take 10~20 min to the first login.
Plus the time for the app. installs from WPI. wink
My UXP Disk is on DVD and runs about 40 minutes.
But when it is done so is my reinstall. My antivirus and my business software is there, my email client is preconfigured, multiple browsers, my DVD players and Codecs ect...,  my cell phone drivers & sync software, printer drivers and software, my word processing applications. and any updates they need run after their installs are done too. Registry entries are added for further customizations of user settings. Again it is easier to do this all only once "Set it and Forget it"... to coin a phrase.

if you can reinstall in 30 minutes it is hardly worth fighting with a particularly nasty or involved issue.  wink

( I am not even going to mention Backups. Oops. Because I am positive that everyone, always, backs up thier important files... )

Put in your Disc pick a location to install and go watch TV for a half an hour. Why would you do anything else? big_smile
It does take the better part of a day to do (if it is your first time) but every time after that it will take no time at all and you won't even have to watch it install ever again once you're done wink Many of us who do this professionaly will update our discs roughly monthly. Updates take minutes after you've 'got it'. This is to our advantage because we may have to roll out 50 machines and we don't want all 50 machines to download (and install) the same update 50 times. (Yes we could use an imaging software, wink but not my point.)

jeff

the board does not support PM

That issue is also fixed now.

please note these were two separate issues...

All references i find to this file are on malware sites.

I am going to remove the links unless someone can show me a legitimate description of it...

you will need to add one line, for the update button I added wink

Yes DEVPATH already does this and does not have any bugs... wink
and it will search for subfolders of a folder that has an inf in it...

We used to note our tickets with PEBKAC (Problem Exists Between Keyboard and Chair) this is considered an industry standard... I am surprized you have not seen this before mr_s. alternately we would reference the "meat virus"

DriverPacks BASE 8.05 was written 6 months ago when we were useing dreamhost...
the update location checked by base for the new base version is on dreamhost...
the new version of base is on simple CDN...

I need Wim to do a redirect of the url for us...

Thanks for reporting !

Fixed... thanks again!

you are correct...

we had two accounts... one for thier old system and one for the new...
apparently the old one is no longer supported.

the message

This is a Legacy SimpleCDN server.

Legacy SimpleCDN services transition has ended (Sep 01 2008 - Dec 27 2008). Please visit www.SimpleCDN.com or contact SimpleCDN support for more information.

You may create a new account for new service at https://admin.simplecdn.com

appears for me too...

I am moving the packs to the new account and fixing the links right now...

Thanks for reporting!

Welcome to DriverPacks!

Um... no...

we provide the packs as we always have...
if you would like something else it is easy enough to do yourself...

Since you have already done this, I am sure you will agree.

this is by design wink

don't use nlite to add drivers...
don't select KTD with DriverPacks...
problem solved...

base 8.05 only supports mass...

check our home page for the release candidate 8.12.1rc  wink

it supports Mass, LAN, WLAN and Graphics

The packs other than mass will work better with UBCD4Win than they will if you are useing a vanillia BartPE.

the other packs Chipset, CPU and Sound are not supported by the PE environment... yet.

hwids and DPs_BASE.log ?

we do not use unicode

we have our own custom translation file ...

so you are forceing translation on a program that is pretranslateing the output...

i will reiterate... desktop testing is a fair place to start... but will not yield any truely useful info.

chipset drivers are not installed at PE and memory performance will likely take a hit without them.

winPE is the only valid feedback for this series of tests... (presetup.cmd)

It seems memory is loaded in relation to the dictionary size so i think half of 512...

that is multiple times the size of our largest pack...
it may be that specifiying a size larger than size of the largest pack is the point of diminishing return (meg per minute)

This is why you are each so important...
if four of you spend an hour on this it is like one of us spending four hours.
(quad core vs single core wink)

That is why each of you is the most valuable member of the team

Thanks to you all again!

how much larger are the packs with some smaller dictionary sizes

who wants to do some speed tests -
repack some DriverPacks useing your favorite number as the dictionary size and let us know...

if we could also report the ram installed on the target machine(s) and basic pack/size info.

This is all very helpful ... Thanks guys..

PS it is probably a good idea to think of 512 as a minimum but still supported value for ram

if they have 256 meg of ram and complain about performace... well... I will disscuss it with them then wink...

hee hee do wonder they are packed so well...

there is a corollary between dictionary size and ram required...

I believed i touched on less compression as an angle to improve speed... wink
there must be a median value or a point of diminishing return...

that was once his plan... we have also discussed per machine packs...

nothing seems to work better than what we now do...

start over

add sp2 and any other changes first then add DriverPacks as the very last thing before you burn.
