Let me know what you come up with compstuff and I can add it via a DPsFnshr.ini entry.

LOL, I don't use sysprep and even I know not to use makepnf! big_smile
Nice one Jeff!
Yes, galapo is THE MAN!  Follow his lead.

Because of changes being made to the site and the updatechecker site code, DriverPacks BASE updatechecker should not be trusted at the moment.
The team is working on it.

You've been using the testing builds, but you don't have access to the testing team forums.  As such, you're not aware of our discussion of this very problem.

From the testing thread:
Just to keep everyone informed, I'm regressing through the realtek versions (what I have on-hand) to find a working driver.
I've tested the following:
R2_WDM_R247-broken
R2_WDM_R246-broken
R2_WDM_R245-broken
R2_WDM_R244-broken
R2_WDM_R243-broken
R2_WDM_R242-broken
R2_WDM_R241-broken
R2_WDM_R240-broken
R2_WDM_R236-broken
R2_WDM_R233-broken
R2_WDM_R232-broken
R2_WDM_R231-broken
R2_WDM_R230-broken
R2_WDM_R229-broken
R2_WDM_R228-broken
R2_WDM_R227 - Works!

Also, just so everyone knows what to look for, here's a pic of the problem indicators.
Key indicators are: No startup sound.  No volume (speaker) icon in the system tray (bottom right corner).

I agree with you to a point.  I dropped Vista like a bad habit, but I find Win7 to be much better on up-to-date hardware.
In my household I have one tower (quad-core, 8GB RAM, etc...) which I use as my primary desktop.  It runs Win7 x64 Professional and I love it.
I also have in my household, 4 notebooks.  One for my wife which runs XP Home (been re-formatted more times than I can remember).  Two for DriverPacks testing (one ancient and one only 3 yrs old).  And one Acer netbook which triple-boots XPHome/Win7/LinuxMint.  On my netbook I prefer LinuxMint since it's much faster than the other two.

Instead of Fedora, I would recommend either Ubuntu or LinuxMint (ubuntu-based) because the driver support from the community is outstanding and Mint includes many proprietary (restricted) drivers and plugins out of the box.  My netbook has the dreaded Intel GMA500 graphics chip, which isn't even designed or built by Intel at all!  It's a modified PowerVR chip nicknamed "Poulsbo" and the drivers are proprietary (NON-open source).  The only linux drivers available for that chip are built by Dell for ubuntu-based distros.  I had to resort to using someone else's BASH script to install them.  Saga & instructions here.

Although, I don't know if we'll ever see a DriverPacks for Linux since most drivers are built now as kernel modules which are specific for each distro.  Each distro maintains their own repositories for application packages and drivers.  And because of the differences in package managers (YUM, APT, etc.) the resulting packages are built completely differently (.rpm for YUM, .deb for APT, etc.).  So until all the major players in Linux can get together and settle on a common platform for package management, you'll still have to rely on each distro's own repo for updates.
Shame.

We'll have to wait for a unified package manager.

Nice info!  We can definitely look into that!  Yes, we'll probably have to prune the HWID from the offending .inf.
Did you check the event log for a reason it didn't load?
@Major, You're working on DriverPack Sound B now aren't you?  Otherwise I can take care of it.
Thanks for reporting. smile

Mark, you'll need to provide a link to your working driver and I'll add it.

mr_smartepants, maybe this has been asked 1000 times, what do you want us to do?

well, the WLAN request you made will need to get moved to the WLAN forum, not here.
I'll work on this LAN dp and put out a beta for testing.  Hopefully we can get this finalized soon.

Guys, simply requesting HWIDs won't help us.  We need links to working drivers.  I'm not psychic and I'm pretty sure none of the other team members are either. wink
The generic download page I found is here: http://partner.atheros.com/Drivers.aspx

I've downloaded all the drivers from the atheros site, and I found VEN_1969&DEV_1063 in one of them.

Welcome to DriverPacks.
(I edited your thread title to better reflect the problem). wink
We're aware of this rare bug.  It was first reported here by dumpydooby.
Overflow is looking into it.
The only solution we've found is the one you've already tried.  Integrate that single addon AFTER integrating DriverPacks.
Hopefully the fix will make it into the next version of DriverPacks BASE.

Thanks, I'll use that info next time.
Did you take the DriverPacks apart?  Did I do them correctly? smile
The ATI/Nvidia files are expanded, but not renamed as per your instructions.
I used the international files where available and left all the setup files intact, though I don't think they're required.

First post updated.  Streamlined folder structure.  No new drivers added and none removed from previous Third Party DriverPack.

- Does my modification break the signature of the driver?
NO.  Running sigverif.exe confirms all the nvidia crap is still signed. smile

- Do you want me to change anything about PhysX_9.09.1112_SystemSoftware.exe?
Nope.  It's fine the way it is.  If you want to tinker with it to add more checks/failsafes, go for it if you've got time to waste.

Although, we'll probably still maintain the original PhysX installers for those nitpicky types who only want original (untouched) installers.
But it's nice to have alternatives for space-conscious folks like yourself.

Yes.
Do NOT disconnect the drive during a write operation.
This leaves garbage stuck in the write-back cache and may cause a hardware failure as well.  This will also cause instability with other USB devices.

Welcome to DriverPacks!
Thank you for sharing.  Looks interesting.

We could just as easily add an .ini discriminator and let DriverPacks Finisher handle the install.  But I prefer to leave everything alone and have the drivers digitally signed whenever possible.
But having three instances of the identical software in the same Third Party DriverPack bothers me.  I wish we could have a single installer and have un7zip extract the one to the three directories.

I'll have to play around with your idea.  I'll test and report back.

*Edit
Works perfectly.  Great job!
