Topic: [SOLVED, NEEDS REPLY] Audio drivers in Windows Server 2003

*EDIT*: I got the PCMCIA Card (SB Audigy) to work, but not the Conexant HD Audio drivers. If anyone has any advice still I'd gladly heed it, but don't kill yourself, as I was mainly concerned with SB smile

Well, I've been using DBase for a while now... excellent work. Well I tried installing Windows Server 2k3 with DBase on my laptop... It wouldn't read my PCI card, which means no more SB Audigy 2 ZS... sad

I also couldn't get the Conexant Sound Drivers to work, but I believe the Microsoft UAA HD Audio Driver doesn't support 2k3. ><

I had the PCI drivers installed, been trying to work this out for hours on end. I finally came here. Apparently, my HP Digital Media Multi-Card Reader isn't operating.
Does anyone know what I could do?

Here are my hwids:

Re: [SOLVED, NEEDS REPLY] Audio drivers in Windows Server 2003

Did you slipstream DriverPack Sound A?

A and B, both. As a matter of fact, I slipstreamed all of the existing driverpacks.

It's strange though. Sometimes the PCMCIA Audigy is detected, sometimes it's not. But the Conexant drivers won't work, period. I dowloaded the drivers for the Microsoft UAA HD Audio and tried to install them but they are not supported by anything other than XP SP 2 sad

Re: [SOLVED, NEEDS REPLY] Audio drivers in Windows Server 2003

hi
why don't you first slipstream to SP2?

OOPS.. misread
OTOH, strange choice, server 2003 on laptop.

OH

You're trying to install the drivers on Windows Server 2003. I had not noticed that earlier. Well, then the drivers don't get installed because they simply do not support Windows Server 2003. I'm very sorry, but then I can't help you wink That's the consequence of using modern multimedia targeted hardware in combination with a server OS. I strongly advice you to use Windows XP SP2 instead, if you want to get it working.

Re: [SOLVED, NEEDS REPLY] Audio drivers in Windows Server 2003

Nevermind, I got them working smile

I just went and extracted the drivers for the SB Audigy, the Conexant HD Audio chip , and the MS HD UAA Drivers. Then I went to computer management, found the devices, selected re-install drivers, and pointed to the appropriate extracted .INF's smile

Cheers m8's!

Everything works? Really everything? Sometimes the drivers just get installed but some things don't work as expected.

Re: [SOLVED, NEEDS REPLY] Audio drivers in Windows Server 2003

Server 2003 is a pain, I can't get my third party driverpack to
install the drivers, but like MatthiasAK did - I can unpack this
and manually install the drivers via Device Manager and it
works.

The reason Bashrats driverpacks won't support your devices
on Server 2003 is because the native support that is in XP
for many onboard sound devices, is simply not there in
Server 2003. I guess the driverpacks BASE relies on whats
in XP.

Just a wild guess here, but could that be related to the HDA hotfix?

Many newer onboard devices are HDa now instead of the older AC'97 standard.
To get them to work (or even the device reckognized so you can install the driver) the hotfix needs to be applied first.
IDK how the situation is with Server2k3, either it requies a different hotfix or it is somehow not compatible with DriverPacks otherwise.

Its Server 2003 SP2 with all hotfixes slipstreamed into the source.

The silly thing is, I can install the XP drivers on Server 2003 if I do it the old
way - Method 1 with OemPnPDriversPath, but then I have to drastically cut
down on the driverpacks used because it goes over the 4096 character limit.

If I make a "3rd party Driverpack" it does not work. I can't work out why.

Re: [SOLVED, NEEDS REPLY] Audio drivers in Windows Server 2003

Helmi has a point here, I have noticed different hotfix versions for the different platforms.

One of these days I ought to run these in testrigs with vanilla versions of different platforms, and look at the files they create.. (ugh, it sounds like just more work... the testrigs are abused as they are.)
