Topic: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

Hello everyone.  I'm obviously new here so bear with me as I try to ask the question I need an answer to.

1.  I know that if is run DPBase to include WLAN, LAN, SOUNDB, and Chipset that I can not use nLite to create a TEXTMODE Driver without breaking the Driverpacks, correct?

2.  None of the current, or older, MassStorage packs allow me to install Windows XP 32 bit on an X79 chipset, due to something Intel did.  So I pretty much need to run in TEXTMODE using nLite. This means not being able to use the Driverpacks for the items listed above.

However, in my twisted way of thinking, can I modify any existing MassStorage driver pack to have just a single RAID driver that will be select when I select the Text mode option when running DPBase?  Basically ejecting all of the MassStorage drivers and have just a single iaStor, iaStor.sys, iaStor.cab and Txtsetup.oem file in the driver pack?  I have the drivers that were provided by Fernando on the MSFN forum.

I have tried using the two files provided, AHCI and RAID, but the system blue screens at first start up every time I have the AHCI file.  ** I'm running in a RAID 0.

Any thoughts would be great.  And if I can do this, can I get some help with it?  It's small, but I don't know all of the strings required such as hdwid, etc...

Thank you - Caleb

Thank you for joining the forum, Caleb37smile

  The latest MassStorage DriverPack is still in beta.

  In the mean-time, could you please post your HWid's (linked in my signature below) so that it may be verified that x79 support is included.
  It should be OK to run HWid's in another Windows operating system (temporary install).
Simply ensure that HWid's is run with the drive(s) set up as RAID0.

  Does the system's manufacturer not have a page listing drivers, especially an "F6-floppy" disk?  Are you installing through USB by any chance?

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

Wow, thank you for reaching out to me.  This is an unusual situation so hang in there with me.  I cannot provide HWIDs because at the moment I'm on an Ivy Bridge system Z77 Chipset and I have Windows 7 x64 installed.  The new system I'm building is an Asus P9X79 Deluxe (x79 Chipset) with a Raid 0 and Windows XP32 bit SP3.  Why?  Becuase I have some software that doesn't work with Win 7 or 8 and until I can find a suitable replacement I have to install XP on this 'other' new system.

The downside is that Intel has made it 'almost' impossible to install XP 32bit on this particular system as the OS will not accept RSTe or IRST and has to strictly be RST drivers only and it can only be the single driver that you are setting up your system.  In my case RAID.  When I inadvertently selected AHCI and RAID in TEXTMODE (sans the DPBase) it allowed me to install my OS, but upon 1st boot it blue screened with 0X0000007B (0XBACCF524, 0X0000034, 0X00000000) (another words the RAID 0 Hard Drives couldn't be detected because the AHCI driver was present).  When I discovered what I had done I went back and re-did the TEXTMODE Single Driver through nLite and chose only the RAID (iaStor) option and the OS installed and booted fine.  But at last this wasn't enough for me because I really wanted the WLAN, LAN, SOUNDB, and Chipset, however, this doesn't work when you choose TEXTMODE through nLite after trying to install DP's.

Also, the MB provided drivers do no work and there is a note by Asus about this.  **Windows XP 32 bit ** Intel IRST driver for X79 platform will NOT support this OS.  Please set BIOS to [Sata Mode] to [IDE Mode] for OS Installation.

So you can see my dilemma.  Even though the IRST drivers won't work, the 32bit Intel RST RAID driver v10.5.2.1010 for X79 will.  Basically the system is being tricked.

Fernando from MSFN created this pack using Original Intel drivers and obviously I know it works, but not in conjunction with the DP's.  So I figured if I could re-create the MassStorage driver pack with just this one driver, it should work in textmode in conjunction with the other driverpacks I need.

I have the file from Fernando in a RAR at 248KB... If I send it, will this help?

Let me know and know how to send it.

Thank you.

By the way I can't run the SaveHwids since I'm on my Ivy Bridge Z77 Chipset system and since I don't have XP installed on the new X79 system I can't get the information through the Software in your tag.  Thank you though..

Also, I guess I should have mentioned that even though I have these drivers, they CANNOT be loaded using F6 - the X79 chipset won't let it happen through that mode.  It has to be added through TextMode or MassStorage.  Sorry, I should have mentioned that....  I've tried installing through USB and it doesn't work either...  I should have read your questions better...

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

"however, this doesn't work when you choose TEXTMODE through nLite after trying to install DP's."

True, this is not a good way to go, it will corrupt your source.

To debug your installation, restrict your drivers to Chipset & MassStorage.
I like avoiding integrating WLAN to avoid "chatty" hardware, but that's just me being moi.
I use RVMi to integrate updates, addons, & & DP_BASE to integrate drivers, as recommended by the moderators here.  I build my Iso's with IMGburn (i have to install it with internet disabled to prevent Ask toolbar from resolving my geographical location, even before displaying an EULA).
nLite should be ok to build & burn, yet that software is no longer supported by it's author (nor DriverPacks, iirc).

"  It should be OK to run HWid's in another Windows operating system (temporary install).
Simply ensure that HWid's is run with the drive(s) set up as RAID0."

I need some HWid's to guide me.  Odds are, the newer drivers are already included in the latest betas of DP_Chipset & DP_MassStorage.

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

OK, so let me be clear here.  I have a very polished nLite XP SP3 with all hotfixes, addons, and settings that I need for a nice install.  It does not have Driverpacks installed and is waiting for me to make a decision as to using Driverpacks, which currently don't work due to the number of Drivers in the MassStorgage DP or to use nLite's singe Driver Textmode option for RAID, forgoing any possible Driverpack setup.

I have two very entirely different computers with different hardware in each.  I have a Sandy Bridge (X79) system pending an OS and and Ivy Bridge System (X77) system that has Windows 7 x64.

As a temporary measure I installed XP 32bit using the TEXTMODE Single Driver Option through nLite, just to get the HWIDs that you need and ran the program on the X79 system.  I'll paste them in here shortly.

Also, when I create and ISO, I too use ImgBurn....couldn't live without it.

I beg of you to understand that the current MassStorage Driver Pack does NOT work and causes my system to Blue Screen at the Point of "Loading Windows".... Not only does the current one not work, nor does any from the past.  This system requires a SINGLE TEXTMODE DRIVER only.  That's why MSFN exists to help those of us with this issue.  With that in mind my thought was to empty the MassStorage pack and create the smallest one ever with only the RAID driver I need.  Am I getting through?

It's confusing, but you have to believe this is a beast that is new and nothing like the past.

Here's the paste of HWID's from XP on the X79 system, without any Driverpacks, due to the Single Driver Textmode only through nLite:

I hope I have been able to explain this, but somehow I don't think you're ready to believe it.  Thanks again though for trying to help me work through this....

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

I thank you for your clarity.  It would appear that i've only updated the RST C600 series AHCI drivers for Win2k3.

As for including Fernando 1's work; that can only be done with his expressed permit, including the approval of the DriverPacks moderators.  I would do no less than to credit him in any relevant changelog, as well as in this Forum.

Can you post an OEM link to the "iastor" driver in question?

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

OK, just so you know, Fernando used an official Intel RST pack and basically extracted only the files needed to work with XP32 Bit and an X79 System.  He does mod files for some of the setups, but this isn't one of them as the RAR file contains only the official Intel SATA and RAID C600 series files for use as a TEXTMODE Single Driver Setup.  Here is the MSFN.org page: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/107504- … d-drivers/  It's an interesting read if you're interested.  I've noted the section below that pertains to my situation.

This explains the issues and why such a unique setup is required.

For users with an Intel X79 chipset AHCI/RAID system:

    XP79 chipset users, who want to get XP (32bit) installed in AHCI or RAID mode, should download this special RST driver (the RSTe drivers will not work for the XP installation):    >32bit Intel RST textmode drivers v10.5.2.1010 for X79<
Here is the link to the small RAR package:  32bit Intel RST Textmode Drivers v10.5.2.1010 for X79

within this RAR is the RAID files I need.

I hope I'm doing this right trying to figure out the BBCode, but what have I got to lose.

Please let me know if I'm not doing something right or what else you might need.  The file to download is 248KB, so very small.

Thank you again.

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

we work with OEM links here only.  station-drivers.com, Fernando"EsNumeroUno", MSFN.org, and win-lite.de are good guys too, yet we have an audience to consider and therefore will not use them other than to guide research.

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

Well, look I thank you for your help.  I've wasted enough of your time.  I was under the impression using this forum I could learn how to modify a driverpack to suite my needs, but it's a challenge that can't seem to be done.  So again, thank you. I'll continue to try to figure this out on my own, at this point, or collaborate with others that have been successful at doing this.  I don't mind using the TEXTMODE single driver, but then I lose the ability to include the Driverpacks I've been using for years in combination with nLite and now that seems to be lost because of this idiotic situation with Intel, the X79 Chipset, and Windows XP32bit.

Sorry to have troubled you with a challenge that can't be met.

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

OEM LINK

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ … ldID=20963

If he ever comes back, I've noticed that this hardware ID

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826

only uses megasr.sys in the OEM driver, same in driverpacks. but driverpacks has the addition of iaStorA.sys also with that HWID.

If mass-storage.ini is edited to remove this HWID from iaStorA.sys I think it'll work.

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

1st of all let me apologize for my last message last night, it was late, and I've been working on this for the last month reaching for every step I can take.  I love challenges and this has certainly been one of them.  I didn't know when I purchased this combination of Hardware that Intel yanked the rugged out from under XP 32bit for this Hardware.  But it's what I have and I'm going to make it work.

Damnation, thank you for chiming in.  I know you guys answer a lot of silly questions, but the silliest are the ones yes unasked. I work in the world of IT for the largest company on the planet.  But this project is a home project and I've been able to do what others said couldn't be done to date.  I know there has to be a solution to this. But it also means I have to open up my level of understanding about what DPbase does and how the nLite TEXTMODE Single Driver works as they don't like to play nice with each other.  MSFN told me I couldn't remove DPBase packs from an nLite source after the fact, yet I wrote a batch file that did exactly that, including replacing the original nLite files in the I386 folder.

So now, I need to understand your message.  I'm currently working with MassStorage pack v12.03.  I am using this one purposely to align the right Intel drivers for my situation.

When I extract the MassStorage driverpack > D > M > which "I(x)" folder should I be focused on?  It looks like I4 contains the iastorA.  What should I edit out?  I couldn't find the Intel C600 series RAID driver in the pack and I checked the v12.09.  This is where I need help from the experts.  Also will it be possible to take out the AHCI from the same folder that contains the correct iaStor file?  If my system sees both while I'm in a RAID 0 it will blue screen about not finding the the primary hard drives.

I can't think of anything else to ask until I know I'm in the right direction.

Again, thank you bot of you folks.

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

Actually, now I think "megasr" is causing this, iastorA seems a closer match to your driver you referenced.

The C600 Series is in I4
look in iastorA.inf

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&CC_0104.DeviceDesc = "Intel(R) C600 Series Chipset SATA RAID Controller"

so open the ini, comment out "megasr" with a ;
or you can just copy below into your ini (replace the existing entries), then place back in the 7z archive.

the PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826 are resent additions to "megasr" - in 12.09 but not 12.06 - what caused the change?

Techdud, whats the OEM source for the "megasr" entry?

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

OK, so I'm honestly sorta lost here.  Are we talking about opening the ini file in the root of the MassStorage Driver pack and adding these entries, or are we talking about the iaStorA ini file within the I4 folder, or both?  Remember I'm using MassStorage driver pack v12.03.

OK, so I figured some of this out and was able to copy paste the ini section into the DriverPack_MassStorage_wnt5_x86_x32 file in the root of the DP MassStorage base.  So I'm guessing this option removed all of the megasr.sys references?

I'll repack the the file and give it a try and let you know what happens.  Will this matter that I should be using iaStor instead of iaStorA in I4?  wouldn't the txtoem file be different?

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

OK, so I ran the new setup with the modified MS DP modded ini file and placed the install disk in my X79 rig.  I got the Windows setup screen, loaded files and then when it got to Setup is starting windows, it Blue Screened with error 0X0000007B.  It's unable to find my Raid 0 hard drives.  This is what is has been doing with every DP setup.  When I run nLite and select the TEXTMODE single driver setup it works fine, but again at the mercy of forgoing any driver packs other than the RAID driver.

I noticed when I do use the TEXTMODE single driver setup it creates two things:  IASTOR.SY_ and and NLDRV folder with only the Intel C600 series driver I chose.  I guess this prevents confusion of other drivers.  I inadvertently chose both AHCI and RAID at one point and the system installed the OS, but on first boot it Blue Screened with the error above because it detected the AHCI driver.  This is twisted.  It also modifies 18 files in the I386 folder, pretty much most of the same ones that DriverPack base modifies.  Now I know why I can use DriverPack base and nLite TEXTMODE single driver setup as they write and modify many of the same files.

With that being said, is there anyway to simply strip out all of the MassStorage Driver pack to just include the Intel provided c600 series RST driver to act as a single driver setup.  That way I would still be able to include the other packs I need.  From there I can use the Vendor updates to install the rest of the drivers for Asmedia, USB, Marvell, etc...

Any forward thinking is welcome.  I may be trying to over simplify the process.  ;-)

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

If you want to have just the one driver, edit out all the sections in the massstorage ini that you don't want. I guess just leaving [I4]

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

I'll give it a try.  Will it matter that iaStorA differs from the RST I have with iaStor?

So here's what I'm going to try, but I don't think it will do much for me since I don't know these pack setups as well as you guys, the pros who do this.

I'm modifying the MassStorage INI to this:

[DriverPack]
platform="wnt5_x86-32"
name="MassStorage"
classes="hdc,SCSIAdapter"
rootdir="D\M"
driverCount=174
; OPTIONAL
; version 12.03
decompSize    = 52522718
compSize      =  8113177

[I4]
; 3.0.1.7016
ms_count=1
ms_1_deviceName="Intel(R) C600 Series Chipset SATA RAID RST Controller"
ms_1_tag="iaStor"
ms_1_sysFile="iaStor.sys"
ms_1_hwids="PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2826&CC_0104,PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1D02&CC_0106"
ms_1_isBusExtender=false
ms_1_exc_skipIfOS="wxp,w2k"

Looking at the hwids line, should this be modified to be what the hwids are listed as earlier in this thread?  If so, now how should this line look?

I will replace the contents of the I4 folder with the 32bit Intel RST RAID driver I have, that works in single driver mode to include only:  iaStor.cat, iaStor.inf, iaStor.sys, and txtsetup.oem - Would this seem to be correct? Are there any modifications to any of these files that should be made?  I'm thinking the txtsetup.oem should be modified only for the RAID driver I'm using.  I can rem the other lines. Sound alright?

Again, thank you guys.  This is simply a one off and against the norm I know.

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

just don't have both versions integrated so they won't clash, just have one.

Also, edit [I4] Replace the whole entry.

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

I think we missed each other by 1 minute.  Can you review the post just prior to your response?

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

Try mine out first

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

Alright.  It will be about 20 minutes before I know since I have to integrate, create the ISO and try the setup.  Thanks.  I'll be back shortly...

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

one more thing to try, delete PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1D02&CC_0106, their kept separate in the txtsetup.oem file, so we should make it the same here.

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

I didn't catch this message in time and went ahead and did what you requested in the earlier post.  However the system came back with "The file iaStorA.sys could not be found. Press any key to continue, which let me reboot.  This was typical of the response I would get when I tried to load the driver from a floppy or USB device.  That's why I had to figure out the slipstream since F6 function doesn't work on this X79 system.

Do you still want me to try the last idea about deleting the PCI\VEN information, or do you think it will result in the same 'could not be found' category?

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

is there an iastorA.sys in the I4 folder, or did you rename it?

also, yes delete that ID

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

There is an iaStorA in the folder, I did not rename it.  I went ahead and deleted the information and tried again, but returned the same results as before, iaStorA could not be found.

As a side note, and just for giggles, I ran the XP disc I did using nLite in TEXTMODE single driver to see what the load preference was at the Windows Setup Screen while it was loading files.  I noticed that the C600 series loaded before any of the other Microsoft I386 drivers did.  When I monitored the DriverPack setup during Windows Setup loading files, it didn't show up at the beginning and was too fast for me to tell where and when it would have showed up.

I'm just trying to be helpful with my observation.

I'm beginning to think having the best of both worlds may be proving impossible.  I rarely give up, but this challenge is far greater and seems more complicated than it should be.

If only the Driver Base would allow the selection of only a Single Driver through its Textmode option this might be solved.  But I'm guessing that's not possible.

Any other worldly thoughts?

Just to be clear, I'm basically looking for WLAN, LAN, SOUNDB, and CHIPSET packs if I can incorporate the TEXTMODE Single Driver setup. The rest of the Mass Storage drivers I would be able to install from within the OS from the Vendor site.

Re: Create new MassStorage with only One RAID driver

Can you upload your massstorage pack?
as well as the txtsetup.sif file (in I386 folder) from your XP source? (after a DP Base integration, so I can see if I can find where it's going wrong)
