Re: [REQ] WLAN - updated Broadcom drivers

I really hate how Broadcom splits their version numbers so it's possible to have a lower number version number with a current date.  Stupid!

i had troubles extracting on xp.  Edit:  That is, until i used "IsXunpack.exe setup.exe" within the same folder!  Copy the file 'IsXunpack.exe' from 'C:\Program Files\Universal Extractor\bin'.  This will likely work for other 'Acresso-IS v15" packages!  big_smile

* Note:  "CmdLine=/peernet /sm /HideVirtualTrayIcon" may (or may not) need to be changed within Setup.ini to access the utility.  Ditch the '/peernet' option too, unless you need it.

It's a peer-to-peer network utility that lets your computer connect to another directly without going through a router. It's part of the Dell WLAN driver package. Probably the best way to get rid of it is to uninstall "DW WLAN Card Utility" through Control Panel/Programs/Uninstall a Program. Then reinstall the 1520 wireless driver through Device Manager, pointing it to folder containing the extracted driver package (probably c:\dell\drivers\R262653\R262653\Drivers_US). That should result in installing just the driver without the baggage.

I think I found a bug/typo in the INF file's uninstall section

it exists in more than one revision, even for older OS's (including v5.100.235.19_XPx86)

Perhaps this ensures that all libraries are removed, even the ones incorrectly installed.  hmm

It would appear that your "X-Ray Vision" works perfectly!  How on God's green earth did you spot that?

Re: [REQ] WLAN - updated Broadcom drivers

Its a bug because its not on the same line

Either of these would be correct:

; Place on same line as UnregisterDLLs=
[Cleanup]
UnregisterDlls	= BCMIHVUI.regsrv.NTamd64, BCMIHVUI.regsrv.NTx86

; Or use a backslash to indicate to move to next line
[Cleanup]
UnregisterDlls	= \
BCMIHVUI.regsrv.NTamd64, BCMIHVUI.regsrv.NTx86

But its only a minor bug that will only affect uninstall

Re: [REQ] WLAN - updated Broadcom drivers

You are indeed correct; my bad.

That bug exists within the following Win7 drivers:

v5.100.82.130:  -HP-specific

v5.100.82.112:  -Dell-specific

and not present in these Win7 drivers:

v5.100.82.112:  -lenovo-specific
                      -HP-specific sp56982
                      -Acer-generic
                      -ASUS (generic+specific=sadistic) *

* another installer that requires "IsXunpack.exe Inst.exe"
  also note that this list is incomplete....

This is another installer requiring "IsXunpack.exe Setup.exe" to access the vista drivers.
The uninstall bug is not present in this set of drivers.

Re: [REQ] WLAN - updated Broadcom drivers

Not sure if this is the right place to report... I've noticed that the latest beta pack is missing a broadcom wifi driver -
VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&SUBSYS_7179144F&REV_01
This is present in a Samsung RV511 laptop.

The driver from the Samsung site is here. This is a BCM43XX driver, a newer version of which appears to be already present in the driver pack. However the newer version doesn't have this subsys in the INF file.

Not sure if merging the INF files is enough, but it appears to install and connect to an access point fine if I add the missing SUBSYS line. If it's easier, the inf file is here

Re: [REQ] WLAN - updated Broadcom drivers

Some connection issues with specifically BCM4313 are resolved, if you can get your hands on a generic v5.100.82.143 (or later if applicable) for Vista-7 (IIRC).

The BCM430N v5.100.82.135 driver included in the driverpack works fine with my device, but only if I edit the inf file. Does this break driver signing and therefore break the driver installation?
I can't seem to find a generic driver which includes this device.

PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727 contains in 3 drivers:
XP 5.100.82.94
W8 6.30.95.29
W7 5.100.196.18

they are all in the driver-pack http://driveroff.net/soft/dpwlan/

Re: [REQ] WLAN - updated Broadcom drivers

try modding the inf in this driver --> ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp60501-61000/sp60922.exe  hmm

     readme - ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp60501-61000/sp60922.html

It contains {DriverVer=09/28/2012, 5.100.82.143} for Vista-7 & {DriverVer=05/07/2012, 5.100.82.139} for XP.
