Topic: What Device That Is This?

Hello everybody!

After installing Windows 7, a device was not found! Was not recognized nor with driverpacks DVD or CD with the drivers from my motherboard...

Follow the print-screens and the TXT HWIDtool:

Re: What Device That Is This?

what kind of motherboard, exactly?

Re: What Device That Is This?

unknown IRDA device? http://img.lanparty.tw/Upload/FAQ/CM/en … rDA_en.htm

SIR-based?  info here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library … 85%29.aspx

indicates *PNP510 & *PNP511.  Maybe WindowsUpdateCatalog has drivers if the mobo mfg doesn't.

TechDud,

Interesting these links...!

Re: What Device That Is This?

XP has the driver(s) built-in (netirsir.inf & msports.inf) for both ACPI/PNP0510 & *PNP0511.
netirsir.inf is not included with Win7_x86.
Driver v6.0.6001.18000 (longhorn_rtm.080118-1840) is available through WindowsUpdateCatalog here: http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/ … ?q=PNP0510  cool

Add to DP_Chipset?

Generic.DevDesc        = "Built-in Infrared Device"

*PNP0511.DevDesc    = "Built-in Infrared Device"

Would adding ANY infrared device drivers with, say the Chipset pack, & subsequently integrating in a Win7 disc, force Win7 to install the infrared service as well?
If so, would this not have an effect upon system latency (windows searching for IR devices)?

If any of those conditions are true, would the IR (SIR, FIR, CIR, etc) drivers better belong with the 'Miscellaneous' pack (to preserve mainstream system latency)?  hmm

That's a good question.  From my understanding, integrating the drivers with DISM will add the drivers and .inf files to the local C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository of the install.wim, whether the system needs them or not (think KTD).  The system won't scan for devices on an IR device that doesn't exist.
To be honest, I never add drivers via DISM that aren't boot-critical.  I only add DriverPack Chipset, Mass Storage & maybe LAN...that's all.  The rest I install via SAD2 post install which uses DPINST.
