Topic: [SOLVED]"Windows Help:There is not enough memory" message at startup

Hi,
am absolute newbie and am confused. I Did a google search and the post below the black bar from your site was the only relevant search found. That is why I am posting this question.

Daughter's X-boyfriend built this computer about four years ago for her, I wound up with it, and she has no idea about problem.
It has a windows XP (SP3)op system, 3GB RAM, have 2 ATI graphic cards installed, ABIT NF7-S board and get the same message
error message box displayed every time after login and after desktop opens with icons.

Title: Windows Help
Text: There is not enough memory available for this task.
Quit one or more programs to increase available memory, and then try again. (2)

Have no atiptaxx.exe icon to remove from system tray. I realize this may not be the correct forum ... or even site, but could someone give me directions to a site/board/instructions to stop this message?

thanks folks, DT  thespis99@gmail.com

Re: [SOLVED]"Windows Help:There is not enough memory" message at startup

If it does it every time the system boots up, I'm certain the problem is in one of your startup programs.
I'd recommend installing CrapCleaner and running it.
It has a good registry cleaner and there's a tab under "Tools->Startup" that will list every startup item.  Start by disabling (not deleting) one or two at a time and rebooting until your problem goes away; That's your culprit.

yep, it seems you have some applications running in the background. CrapCleaner is a good software, you can try to do it as explained above. You can also try to run an AntiVir or Spyware problem to see if the problem is a virus or other threat.

Re: [SOLVED]"Windows Help:There is not enough memory" message at startup

THANK YOU,   THANK YOU,   THANK YOU.

Went entry by entry, found it t be the ATIPTAXX start-up program that needed to be disabled at startup.

Also deselected the tray icon in the ATI card settings.

Works great now

again, thanks      Thespis99

Re: [SOLVED]"Windows Help:There is not enough memory" message at startup

PS

Also found it was not called ATIPTAXX in the tray, that's why I didn't think I had it. Also thought had two icons in tray because I had two different ATI cards installed.

FYI, did download and install CrapCleaner .... sure was a lot of crap (on my machine)

live and learn (and don't fry it along the way)

Again, thanks
