This was using the Fragbert modified driverpack for modem (DP_Modem_wnt5_x86-32_702mod.7z) and worked silently

Now because the precise driver is missing, and the other driver is getting bumped down into the untrusted range rank 0xa001, its not automatically installing and I get a 'new HW wizard' thing up at the end of it all.
However manually clicking search and so forth, it does install it fine using this driver....(this appears to be same issue with graphics drivers I am having a nightmare with at present, if anyone has looked in graphics pack thread)

I'd be glad if you found that thread.
As for the signed/unsigned issue, I can only recommend you di disable the Signed Driver Policy as a whole.
I, for one, am using nLite for the task.
I do not see any real pupose in this.
If I need one specific driver, I do not care whether it is signed or not, because either I am using the unsigned one or the device will not work at all.
Great choice.
And since, wherever possible the DriverPacks use signed drivers, it will not be a "loss of quality" for you, either.
In fact, I have seen more than enough WHQL-signed drivers that were still seriously bugged, so the signing doesn't really mean much after all.
It's the same as the SFP, it may be good for newbies but once you got the basic 101 of an OS fogured out, it's nothing but an annoyance...
Hi Helmi,
thread: http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=1521
where is that being disabled? could you be more specific as to what is changed in your config?
thanks
Thanks for the link, I'll see to it (probabaly merging recent update with the mod pack).
As for ther setting, I dunno where exactly it is in nLite off the top of my head, but I'm sure it's there, at least I am not getting bugged by these unsiged driver messages :shrugs:
It's also possible to use a "hacked" DLL for the same task, might even be nLite is doing just that (same as for the semi-opened connection limit - MS really knows how to annoy power users...)

yes,
(note to self; the wireless "modem" chud slipped in should go to wireless, and since JakeLD is working on the wireless DP, it will get done.)
@ debugger.
Since you have dial up, I would suggest you upload the drivers to FTP, and one of us gets them in the pack for you.

I'll create a folder for you.
changed topic title, so people know there is some work going on.
Debugger, you can upload to

Holy Cow!
54 subfolders under ACER?
Surely some of those files are duplicates and can be converged.
we'll see when we get the drivers
Modem_Pack.7z is uploaded.
I got the file.
now, everybody else better NOT work on a copy of modem until after I have worked with the files debugger uploaded, and put a pack up for "testing"..
I always wanted to say "everybody freeze"
@ DeBugger
and @ the frozen ones
Hi,
this is based on the structure Debugger used.
I had first started with INF edits, and gave up.
(any small un-noticed difference in a REGISTRY section would be bad.)
I saw it was a lot easier to copy renamed INF files to folders with indentical binaries.
The folders will get a short name, and this txt will be cleaned up for the changelog.
I want to let DeBugger and the frozen ones see what was done so far, rather than have everybody guessing.
(the HWID screening filter was not yet used so I do not yet know wether other non-acer folders have those HWIDs in them)
The Wireless devices will be moved to WLAN
and for acer, there are still a whole lot of folders left.

TOP post updated, the log is in there.

A good job, Jaak.
I thought to make it too, but I afraid breaking digital signature.
hi
Have uploaded the work I could do today.
Hi,
Why does the new info file in it say my Dell Novotel Merlin 3g stuff was moved to the WLAN pack when it IS NOT (at 706 so not exactly likely to be) - looked on forum and link to test one (http://dev.driverpacks.thesneaky.com/dr … -32_708.7z) doesnt work anyway
The ClassGUID is 'system device' anyway and shouldn't have gone near the wlan pack - its more related to modems than wireless anyway as doesn't use Wireless Zero Configuration etc.
Hi Erik.
today I got a modem codec install error on an acer 530..
let's say PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24C6 is generic, and there is a generic in four folders.
We gotta do something here, for one of them is motorola, which is what buggered you too.
I agree, but the vendors don't make it easy. Many of those drivers use .cat files for driver signing. The HWIDs are embeded in those .cat files. If we make the HWIDs too strict (&SUBSYS_), they won't catch all the appropriate hardware.
I'm not sure how to handle them. My gut instinct is to split them off into Modem_A and Modem_B (or C&D) so the user can choose and they won't conflict with others.
Motorola drivers and Agere drivers are conflicts...
Motorola drivers and Agere drivers are conflicts...
Did I mention that I hate modems?!
Were always the worst to find functional drivers for.......
