Topic: [ACK] problem with IBM desktop "8305-SKU", soundmax
Hi,
this is my first port and I'm very new to driverpacks, but I will very soon look into integrating it to my nlite iso
in the mean time I just uncompressed and burned the driver packs on CDs
I tried installing the audio driver with a CD that had both audio driverpacks uncompressed on it
the chipset is an intel i865
the method I used to install the driver was to ask to update the driver and I chose to autofind the driver (specifying a path isn't possible right ? because you'd have to know what is in every subfolder and there doesn t seem to be a map to help find driver "by hand" like that, right ?)
it found driver for soundmax (I can get the specific name if you need)
but after detection and still after reboot there was a yellow exclamation point on the device so the driver isn't right apparently
I went to the ibm website got the "real" driver, ran the self-extract, then the soundmax installer and the sound worked
is that fixable ?
I'm not sure what kind of info you need so instead of posting everything I could think of, just ask me what you want to know
I install windows on dozens of computers per week, so far only the audio pack has given me problems but I didn't use the driverpacks much yet because I'm still used to using my big driver stash on a network share
btw, is there a way to do what I'm doing but over the network so I don't have to burn a bunch of driverpack cds ?
I tried mounting a shared folder containning exactly what was on the cd but it didn't find the drivers, it seems the auto find option of the driver update dialog only search removable media , not harddrives (and usb keys ?) nor network shares right ?
the only way I could think to get around that was to install the ms virtual cd (or daemon tools) and mount the drivers over the network in pre-made isos
