Re: Bsod on soundmax

Actually I just received the exact same BSOD on a customers laptop. It's a Gateway M305CRV. After removing both of the latest soundpacks, the BSOD didn't appear. The sound driver isn't a SoundMax though, it's a "SigmaTel C-Major Audio." **Personally haven't heard of this company**

I'm unable to submit a HWID. When I try to follow the links on your guyes signatures, they are going to a page cannot be displayed. If you could update your link, I can send them your way

Re: Bsod on soundmax

I get the same problem on a machine I'm working on right now, with a portcls.sys error. I've done some research and found that this is the device ID for the sound card of a similar machine:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2415&SUBSYS_1249103C&REV_02\3&61AAA01&0&FD

If I have the sound card enabled during windows install, it hangs with that error, if I disable it for the setup, then enable it afterwards, it will install partly as a realtek AC'97 device and crashes the system.

Re: Bsod on soundmax

Ok, attach me please the file setupapi.log, you can find it in the directory WINDOWS, and also the HWID. we will see how many files .inf have that HWID
Thanks

Re: Bsod on soundmax

I cannot use the save_hwids program because all the links are dead. The HWID that I had found for that device I found through winmsd which I ran through the run box.

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2415&SUBSYS_1249103C&REV_02\3&61AAA01&0&FD

Re: Bsod on soundmax

After playing with the machine a little bit, I managed to get the drivers to install.. however I never installed any software. I went into safe mode and un-installed the hardware, then rebooted into regular mode. The hardware "device" came up as a sound driver for the Intel 828011AA/AB

EDIT: Actually, I got it to work by installing the Realtek AC'97 software in safe mode, rebooting back into safe mode, uninstalling it, then rebooting into normal mode and the sound installed properly.

Re: Bsod on soundmax

Can you please upload the files Setupapi.log to any server like rapidshare, because is so long, and delete those posts of setupapi.log
Would you tell me pleas the motherboard of your PC?

Thanks very much.

Re: Bsod on soundmax

The motherboard of the PC is an Intel board (I think).. I can't check right now because its at my work. The model of the computer is a HP Vectra VL400.

Here is the link for my log:
http://rapidshare.com/files/35448327/setupapi.log.html

Re: Bsod on soundmax

It seems it has found the HWID "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2415" in various files (Realtek, intel ac97, soundmax). I think you have to exclude that HWID from the Realtek .inf file "D\S\R\1\Alcxau.inf" and do a test to see if it takes the suitable sound driver.
Regarding, which driver is the suitable, i refer to the drivers included in the webpage of the manufacturer?

Re: Bsod on soundmax

Well here's the thing: there are no drivers on the HP website that I could find for that machine so I wasn't really sure what the driver was until I got it working. When I get in tomorrow at work I'll try out what you suggested and get back to you.

Re: Bsod on soundmax

Ok, i think there is no need to see in the HP website, knowing the motherboard and chipset of the PC you can download the apropiate driver from their manufacturer.

Re: Bsod on soundmax

Ok I tried commenting out what you suggested in the file and it still gives me blue screens during install.. portcls.sys

EDIT: Here's my method of doing it: Unpacked the 7.05 sound driver A pack, modified the INF file and commented out the line, repacked it using the original name (keeping a backup of the original) then used DP_Base to slipstream it into my image and pushed it out using RIS to a Vectra test machine. Its obvious that its not working this way, but should I have cleared my QSC for Sound pack A before I slipstreamed it using the modified file? Or will that not make a difference?

EDIT2: Ok I deleted the QSC and re-slipstreamed it into the package and that seemed to work. The machine is up and running with a proper driver installed. Thanks for all your help in this matter. smile

Was driver installed during setup or in Windows ?
I have similiar problem...
