Topic: P5b Deluxe & Sata II Seagate (Something don't Work with DriversPack)

Hi people,

Now I'm in Xp Pro 32 Bit... this installation was made with driverspack (Chipset & Mass Staorage) and nlite...

I have a p5b deluxe motherboard and a two hard disk...
the first is a seagate barracuda sata II and the second one is a samsung connected like an e-sata (sata II).
Well, you know, this motheborad set by default de Ide configuration, but it has Ahci & raid... I need Ahci for use the sata...so...
Selecting this configuration in Bios "Ahci", the Pc give me a wonderful Blue Screen and restart itself... I can only set the JMicron in Ahci...

can someone, give me some ideas...
thanks in advance...

Tc.

Re: P5b Deluxe & Sata II Seagate (Something don't Work with DriversPack)

hi
there is a mass storage 706test1 version posted in testing forum, and that one attempts to fix the following

JMICRON JMB36X issues
folder \J\1 is gone, the HWIDs are put in J\2 which has a newer driver.

(Mass storage release 705 has an old AHCI for Gigabyte in there, and after the 705 release this was at first exchanged with an update by Gigabyte.. In this 706test1 testpack this is now gone, for people found two Jmicrons in hardware manager (yellow splats) when GBT driver-version 1.17.17 is used along with files in the existing pack.)

merged ATI-SiL-Image 3112r HWIDs in \S\5 (which is the newer)
\S\5\A gone (silly image clashes with silicate image)

Intel matrix storage drivers and the intel chipset were also looked at.
ICH9 was introduced, and intel dropped support for older than ICH6, and Intel in AHCI mode is an issue at times.
We want to fix that.

These are TEST versions, and we'd like to know wether this solves your issue.

test this on
INTEL, (INTEL in all its modes should be tested along with chipset 706test1.)
JMICRON 36x (test AHCI mode, and raid)
SIL3112r (test AHCI mode, and raid)

A word of advice
Once a drive has been used in AHCI mode, and later on you want to use it in a RAID or in IDE mode, you may have to low level format it by using the drive manufactor disktool.

EDIT; mass storage test1 was updated to TEST2

Re: P5b Deluxe & Sata II Seagate (Something don't Work with DriversPack)

Hi trancechill,

maybe the problems has nothing to do with the Driverpacks. Did you enable AHCI for the ICH8R before you installed Windows or did you do that after the setup? When you setup Windows in IDE mode you cannot switch to AHCI later. Though if you switch to AHCI after the setup, it results in a blue screen x07b. So, enable AHCI before you setup Windows and you will get no blue screen. The necessary AHCI driver for ICH8R is part of the MassStorage Driverpack.

Hi jtdoom,

there is not SIL ASIC on this Motherboard ;-)

HI

A word of advice
Once a drive has been used in AHCI mode, and later on you want to use it in a RAID or in IDE mode, you may have to low level format it by using the drive manufactor disktool.

That advice is same if you do a change from RAID array to single drive mode.

If you want to change modes, and find lowlevel is to be used to restet the drive, then you MUST make sure you have data backup.
Once you change mode in a drive and use it in another mode, DATA WILL BE GONE.
