Topic: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

Hi!

All mass storage drivers load fine and then I get BSOD. All DriverPacks in ver 7.04.

Motherboard Gigabyte 965p-s3. 2 HD in RAID0 on additional sata controller (GIGABYTE GBB36X)

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

THank you,
BTW: Many ppls are getting this BSOD problem because there are too many Mass Sotrage drivers to be installed at the first boot. However, I'll give it a go on this new driver pack. If it's not working, I guess I have to use some of those drivers inside instead.

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

welcome to DriverPacks net.
BSOD in reboot after textmode and first stage of setup are usually caused by conflicts.

Ruud, Muiz3, Bâshrat the Sneaky, overflow, bigbrit, fragbert and so on have been working hard to figure out what causes the conflicts. Feedback by users posting logs is really important, and can help the Dr. Watsons find a solution.

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

mass storage test releases after 70410 and before 70418 (files you got from rapidshare) contain an error.

a fixed mass storage 70418 for TESTING purposes was uploaded, and later versions made me pull this link.

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

Hi,

same problem for me with DP 7.04.
BSOD in text mode, juste before the partition screen.

Hardware : Gigabyte 965P-DS4 (new rev 3.3) + SATA HD on Gigabyte SATA2 controller (JMicron) + IDE (PATA) DVDROM (controlled by JMicron)

I've downloaded DP mass storage 7.0418 beta, slipstreamed it with DP Base and all other DriverPacks.

The BSOD has disappeared.
I can create a new partition. Format is OK. Files are copied OK.

Windows reboots and then the same BSOD occurs.

New install with hw configuration changed :

Gigabyte 965P-DS4 (new rev 3.3) + SATA HD on ICH8R controller (southbridge) + IDE (PATA) DVDROM (controlled by JMicron)

No BSOD during text mode. 1st part of install OK until reboot.

When in graphics mode, Windows can't find my DVD reader : Windows asks for "file" ASMS (subdir of i386) located on "GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386" but can't find it.

Any idea ?

cirederf

What are the BIOS settings for onboard Sata?
(page 40 in manual)

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

hello,

my current BIOS settings :

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode [Disabled] (so IDE mode)
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode [Enabled] or [Disabled] (doesn't change anything)
Onboard SATA/IDE Device [Enabled]
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode [IDE]

Just tried these settings :

SATA RAID/AHCI Mode [AHCI]
SATA Port0-3 Native Mode [Disabled]
Onboard SATA/IDE Device [AHCI]
Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode [IDE]

BSOD in text mode ....

I tried to connect my IDE DVD ROM reader on a SATA connector with a SATA<->IDE adapter, but it's not detected by the BIOS ...

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

cirederf, earlier today I went to Gigabyte fora, and found that people report issues with a production batch of these boards. I was not able to find the serial numbers affected.

I am NOT saying that Jmicron driver in this pack is perfect.
I downloaded gigabyte drivers today, and will look at these. (it is a slow site, huh?)

your complete string subsys/subversion is not found in the current test pack. (but subsys is..)

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

hi

FYI, eralier this morning (just before work), i tried a new install with old DriverPacks

DP Base 7016
DP_Chipset_wnt5_x86-32_612
DP_CPU_wnt5_x86-32_6091
DP_Graphics_A_wnt5_x86-32_701
DP_Graphics_B_wnt5_x86-32_612
DP_Graphics_C_wnt5_x86-32_701
DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_701
DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_7011
DP_Sound_A_wnt5_x86-32_701
DP_Sound_B_wnt5_x86-32_612
DP_WLAN_wnt5_x86-32_701

Text mode is OK
Windows starts the graphics part of the installation, and YES, my DVD reader is detected and DriverPacks are decompressed

Didn't have much time to compare DP mass 701 and 704 but i'll do it at noon or tonight.

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

Is there any solution yet?

Is it possible to use the old masstorage 7.01 together with 7.04 DriverPacks?

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

hi again,

i've quickly compared the .ini file in the DP 7.016 and in the DP 7.0424

the only differences (only for the JMicron sections) are that :
- in DP 7.016, the complete string "VEN_197B&DEV_2363&SUBSYS_B0001458" is not present, in DP 7.0424, it is.
- the order [J-1] [J-2] has been changed between 7.016 and 7.0424 ...

other difference, the driver version has changed between the 2 DriverPacks.

I've read in other posts that the order in the .ini file can change a lot, but i'm still confused with this problem ...

my conclusion would be : no driver (in DP 7.016) is better that the correct driver (7.0424) ...

;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363&SUBSYS_B0001458="jahci"
;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363&CC_0106="jraid"
;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363&CC_0104="jraid"

but it didn't help, still BSOD

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

now i commented out all entries that had to do with JMicron from txtsetup.sif

And guess what I didn't get a BSOD smile

Now we have to figure out what entry makes the installation fail tongue Any ideas?

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

so, basically, it apparantly conflicts with the raid jmicron, which, in this test-pack, gets loaded before jahci..

the problem is, these are modes the chip can use.
Not a great many use AHCI mode, I guess, but that is only a guess. (it is not because the choice in BIOS defaults to some mode, that the other mode is NOT used.)

I do know Jmicron has been a thorn in our sides for a while now.

The answer was 42?
Kind regards, Jaak.

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

the jahci lists two generics, and a series of more specified ones
the raid only has specified ones, and they are different

I think we are staring at a solution here (test without the two generic entres in jahci)
;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2360="jahci"
;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363="jahci"

I just scrolled down in your list,
Which one did you actually still use?

I removed every entry of Jmicron

From HWIDS i get:
PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363&SUBSYS_81E41043&REV_02\4&18CD42CE&0&00E4: JMicron JMB36X Controller
My motherboard is a Asus P5B

;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363="jahci"

OK, I have now tested to comment out

;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2360="jahci"
;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363="jahci"

it didn't help, I still get BSOD.

If a comment out just

;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363&SUBSYS_81E41043

it still doesn't work.

BUT if i comment out all three

;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2360="jahci"
;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363="jahci"
;PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363&SUBSYS_81E41043

the installation works perfectly.

But this is on a Asus P5B, i don't know if it will work on another motherboard with a 965 chipset and a JMicron 363 controller.

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

Hello again!

The workaround that I wrote in my previous post does not work on a Gigabyte S3 motherboard sad

EDIT:

The HWID for the Jmicron controller on Gibagyte S3
PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363&SUBSYS_B0001458&REV_02\4&A678335&0&00E3: JMicron JMB36X Controller

Re: [PROB] BSOD during HD detection in textmode.

you say, in the asus, PCI\VEN_197B&DEV_2363&SUBSYS_81E41043&REV_02\4&18CD42CE&0&00E4
this one is not listed in our pack.

do you have a link to asus supplied driver for YOUR model motherboard?
you can also email driver you have on your CD to gmail adress (link under my name)
