Re: [SOLVED] SiI 3112r controller doesnt work: 0x7B BSOD
That is OF COURSE possible Good luck with the testing.
P.S.: I double-checked and your HWID is supported, so that's not the problem.

Hm, don't quite understand what you're planing to do but to verify whether a driver supports your hardware, you can simply have a look at the .INF file.
The HWIDs exctracted with Bâshrat the Sneaky's tool should be listed in the .INF if it is supported.
If they aren't listed, no drivers will get installed for the hardware.Granted, this may take some time if you do not know exactly which .INF file to look at, but ususally you can narrow it down if you know the hardware in question (ususally the case if it's your own system! ), so you can directly look at a specific file.
HTH!
thx for your response,
do I understand you correctly, that my hardware (in this case the sata driver, si3112.inf) mst be in the windows\inf directory? or have I to search all files for the hardwareID of tghe sata driver?

thx for doublechecking it,
I now looked in the system32\driver directory to search for the sil3112 SATA drivers come with your package and funny thing is: there is only the windows standard driver and no others (Si3112r.sys is completely missing)
Strange isnt it?
Is it also possible to simply copy si3112r.sys in the driver and the inf file in the inf directory to make this driver work for installation or not?
I guess not, is there any other way to do that?
And what to do with those vxd and cpl files shipped with the sys and ini file for the driver?
I know many questions but it seems that this is the real problem - missing drivers, not in your package but on my SATA HD, where the files were copied, am I wrong?

Actually, I was referring to the latter, search the respective DriverPack for the proper entry, just to make sure it is supported.
Since Bâsh already verified it is, you can skip that (time consuming!) step.
If installed, I would think the driver files were to be placed in the %systemdir%\inf directory. You will only have to search for the file name to make sure (since you already know what .INF contains your HWID, I presume).
You don't have to look in any of those folders. When you have the 0x7B BSOD, it will never get that far. But I honestly do not understand why you get that BSOD... The only thing you can do is replacing the driver in the I386 folder (si3112r.sys) by an older one and retry, as you suggested.

Do you mean the i386 folder of my dvd or the one on my SATA disk. The one of my sata disk is nearby empty ;-( There are only two cab files. Do you mean I have to extract them, replace my drivers, compress them again and try it?

The one on your installation disc, of course.
The one on your installation disc, of course.
installation disc = my slipstreamed WinXp DVD?
or the SATA disc where my aborted XP Installation resides?
:-)
Bâshrat the Sneaky wrote:The one on your installation disc, of course.

The former.
The other would be referred to as hard drive, to avoid such confusion (I think, I can't read Bâshrat the Sneaky's mind - yet ;P)
Also, ususally disc means OD, as in CD or DVD, while disk refers to the HDD.
OK :-) had the same thoughts, just wanted to be sure
Ok, I give up!
I've tried nearby every bios with every driver I found on the web, but it resulted all in a BSOD :-(
My solution to this was to replace the SATA disk with a common PATA disk, which worked perfectly.
Anyway - thx to all for your help!
Juku
ps.: perhaps another find a solution for this? :-)
I'm very sorry we couldn't solve this! It's one of the very few times that indeed there seemed to be no solution at all. My guess it that you've got a bad chip or something... since there are really HUNDREDS of machines already installed onto this mass storage controller using my DriverPacks!
Good luck and hopefully you'll be around!
hiyaz, i am havin awful trouble too, tryin on Abit NF7S-v2 and Asus a7n8x-e deluxe mobos.
i keep seeing 2 sata volumes instead of the 1 raid volume on setup, i'm still trying, and have a question.
may i ask why there is an 'A' folder with old 2004 driver files in it within the \D\M\S\5 folder ?
atm am about to try with 1.0.56.0 rather than the newest pack which has 1.0.56.1 (which didnt work 4 me :[ )
muiz just told me that there are new BIOS'es released by Silicon Image. Perhaps that might solve the problem?
cheers Bash, but ive already updated to 1 of Trats bios' with the updated SI bios integrated
ill report bak soon in a day or 2 when i can
Hi Bashrat, here à am again.
Hopefully can help till it all works out well this time..
This time? yes.. i come back again at my first post were this thread started with.
It's not solved for yet for me.
I put down a clean winXP (UK), slipstreamed SP2, and used all the latest (of today) DP's.
burned the cd and it won't recognise the drives correctly!
Exactly like the first post.
Is it possible that i can give it a try with the drivers that were used in DPmassstorage v5.0.5.2 !?
Let's say like a special edition DPmasstorage with that config so i can test it on my system with those oldies included.
Still suspect something changed with the newer one's from sillicon.
just a thought of me..
EDIT: sorry! didn't read that well, same thoughts from the others :-)

If this problem persists, I'll have to... But it will be included in the regular DriverPack MassStorage.
As of THIS moment, please post HERE the HWID of YOUR Silicon Image SiI 3112r controller, so I can create a list!
Allready did that at the first post!
on my Asus a7N8X-E deluxe mainboard:
PCI\VEN_1095&DEV_3112&SUBSYS_61121095&REV_02\4&3B1D9AB8&0&5840: Silicon Image SiI 3112 SATARaid Controller
Still getting BSOD on SiI 3512 ( im getting flashbacks )
So there is no log for this error....
cause it wont install on a S-ATA drive.
I installed xp on the same system but then on IDE , and it works fine, exept e few finisher errors
Even the Sil3512 driver gets installed.

Summarized: newer devices are not supported by the old driver. The old driver does work though. But only when using DriverPack Sound B 6.03.4.
CONCLUSION
Revert the slipstream method back to the one of 6.03.4. But it has not changed! Only entries have been added... And now with the new driver: no changes.
BAM reported that the newer driver DOES work when slipstreamed with nLite. So BAM, could you please upload that txtsetup.sif file?!
I think i still have the XPCD here in my hands..
Must be from 30th may 2006.
Ill do a quick check if it boots and it recognises the drives/partitions, then it should be the right one.
Send it to you the way you asked me earlier, ASAP offcourse!
Be right back.
EDIT:
DONE!! it's in your box right now.
Did a quick boot from it and i see the things we all wanted to see. Drives are there and partitions are all in order the way they should.
Ill keep my fingers crossed now

Could you also post the driver version you're using?
I want to, but how am a going to tell when it's allready updated at this time?? on my system here it's allready 1.0.56.0..
Can look on the cd, but don't know how to get the version from what and were...
Have the Si3112r.sy_ and si3112.sy_ if you want, but how am i going to tell which version they are...
Update:
Clean XPsp2(UK) + 3112r version10.56.1 through Nlite.
Nothing else.
Results in a boot that CORRECTLY recognises the drives AND the current config of partitions!!
Same thing as you are trying to find out now with my old files i send you..
Did'nt do a complete install after the first portion of setup, because i need to get some sleep now off course..
So don't know about BSOD, but my feelings say there won't be any.
I will send you the txtsetup.sif of this little test now and check back tomorrow here. (today that is..)
