Topic: [HELP] Questions about DriverPacks failed install

Yeah sorry that the topic subject isn't really specifying, but.. I'll try to make it up with detailed post. So.. here's what I did:

First of all I copied all the files from my WinXP CD to my computer. The plan was to make an automated installation of WinXP which I would then put on an USB stick (since one of my computers - HP mini computer - doesn't have a DVD-ROM). So what I did was downloading the Service Pack 3 and critical updates, so I could add them to nLite. And then I adjusted all the settings in nLite. Then I got the *.iso file, and from there I copied all the files to a folder. Then I googled for a DriverPacks software tutorial, and found this:
http://www.raymond.cc/blog/how-to-make- … indows-xp/
Then I used this tutorial to make my OS fit for USB stick:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=janEB_wbiBM

So I went to installing, and it went fine. But, I had to wait awful long time, since when the WinXP files copying was finished, it was clear that it had started copying the DriverPacks files (I'm not sure how it would be best to describe - it's the blue screen when installing, and the files which were being copied were shown on the right side, down of the screen). And after that was finished, it continued with the installation where I had to insert the CD key and so on - but since everything was automated by nLite, there was nothing I had to do. And then it was finished. So I thought that my OS is ready to go - since I thought that the DriverPacks software already installed my drivers and there was nothing I had to do. But came out that there was 0 drivers installed. And that was umm.. strange.

I know you probably want which version I am using, what are the specs of my HP PC, what driverpacks did I download, and so on. So there we go:
- I'm using DriverPacks BASE 10.06.
- I'll copy the specs from EVEREST:

Motherboard:
CPU Type: DualCore Intel Pentium E2160, 1800 MHz (9 x 200)
Motherboard Name: Hewlett-Packard HP Compaq dc7800 Ultra-slim Desktop
Motherboard Chipset: Intel Bearlake Q35

Display:
Video Adapter: Intel(R) Q35 Express Chipset Family (384 MB)
Video Adapter: Intel(R) Q35 Express Chipset Family (384 MB)
3D Accelerator: Intel GMA 3100

Multimedia:
Audio Adapter: Analog Devices AD1884 @ Intel 82801IB ICH9 - High Definition Audio Controller [A-2]

If you need more details on my computer's specs, let me know!

- I downloaded the following driverpacks:
http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/wind … cs-b/12.06 - since it has 12 Intel graphics drivers
http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/wind … cs-c/12.06 - this one has 5 Intel graphics drivers
http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/wind … pset/12.06 - this one has 120 Intel chipset drivers
http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/wind … nd-a/11.11 - this one has 1 unidentified driver, thought it might be Intel's
http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/wind … nd-b/11.11 - and just in case I added this one too, in hope that maybe there would be a driver that would suit with my audio card
So that's five packs - the whole XP installation grew to 1,79 GB, as my USB stick shows - so that's probably the reason why it copied the files for so long.
As you saw I downloaded the driverpacks based on what was my part: for example, I have Intel Bearlake Q35 chipset, so I downloaded chipset pack that included Intel's drivers. I'm not sure if I made everything correctly, or if I've understood the aim of this program correctly. So is this program meant for installing drivers automatically, and I really had to download all the driverpacks, which suited for me, and DriverPacks software will see itself, which drivers are actually needed from the Intel's 120 chipset drivers?
So.. as I mentioned before, there were no drivers installed - I didn't see nothing installed in program files. Is there something that I have to do myself, so it would install drivers automatically?
If there was something that I actually did wrong, let me know. If the solution is simple, then I could just format my drive and install Windows again, since it doesn't take very long, and I've got other stuff to do too, while it's installing.
But if the solution isn't simple, then I could just start installing drivers manually - BUT, as I can see under 'My Computer', my C drive shows that 2,65 GB out of 74,5 GB is used - BUT, under C drive, there are three folders: Documents and Settings (~10 MB), Program Files (~70 MB) and WINDOWS (~1 GB). So that's 1,65 GB lost somewhere. I guess that DriverPacks copied the driver packs on to the hard drive, but where are they located? That's like 1,5 GB lost somewhere.
This topic says that I should include some files:

So yeah, a very long post. Hope there's someone who can help me. And if any of you have any additional questions, then go ahead! If there's something in the post that you didn't understand, then let me know about that too (I'm not from any English-speaking country, so if I've got any errors, sorry about that).

Re: [HELP] Questions about DriverPacks failed install

Excellent first post!
Thank you for taking the time to read our tutorial.  Most don't get that far. wink
Looks like you did everything correctly.  It's my personal opinion to not use nlite at all, but everyone has their own preferences on tools.
It's normal for the DriverPacks to be deleted from your systemdrive after install is complete.  The DriverPacks Finisher cleans up after itself.
Can you post your HWID list?  Use the tool linked in my signature.

Umm.. what would you suggest then? Are there any good programs as well that are with same/better options to make Windows installation pre-configured, so you wouldn't have to do anything while it's installing. What are you using yourself?

As I wrote, there's 1,65 GB somewhere lost, so.. I suspect it could be the DriverPacks files, but I'm unable to find them.

Re: [HELP] Questions about DriverPacks failed install

I use RVMi for all XP integrations/removals and I have my own winnt.sif file for the unattended answer file.

I'll look into your specific HWIDs when I can kick my daughter off the main computer. wink

Re: [HELP] Questions about DriverPacks failed install

OK, I had a quick look.
Your graphics chip is supported by DP_Graphics_B_wnt5_x86-32_1206\D\G\I2\
Your sound chip is supported by DP_Sound_B_wnt5_x86-32_1111\D\S\S16

Can you extract those folders from each DriverPacks and try to update the drivers on the running system?

If that works fine, then it's possible that something wacky happened during post-processing.  Can you also post your DPsFnshr.log?

Re: [HELP] Questions about DriverPacks failed install

Well, turns out that neither of these didn't work. Got errors with both of them, when trying to install.

That's because we strip out the .exe installer files.  The .exe files you were clicking on are part of the control panels.  You have to either right-click the .inf file and select "install" or go to the device manager, double-click the sound and graphics components and click the "update driver" button and select the folder containing the drivers I indicated.

Re: [HELP] Questions about DriverPacks failed install

Well, trying the .inf file installation didn't work. I did right click on it, clicked install and nothing happened. Then I tried the other way you mentioned, on Device Manager.

First I tried to install the audio driver, and looks like it was successful:

Then I tried installing "Video Controller" on Device Manager, and got this error:

And then I tried "Video Controller" (VGA Compatible), and this installed with no problems:

So the end result is this:

What's strange with this way of installing, is that I don't see any files in Start menu or in my Program Files folder. Usually, when I'm installing something, using an installer, and clicking "Next" and then "Next", it will create a folder in Program Files. But then again, there were no problems, except for one installation, so I guess it should work fine nevertheless.

Re: [HELP] Questions about DriverPacks failed install

Glad the sound driver worked.
Odd that the graphics driver did not install.
Can you try the full Intel driver from here and test?
Installing raw drivers should never add items to the programs list unless there are "co-installers" that go along with it.  This is normal behavior.

Re: [HELP] Questions about DriverPacks failed install

You can see from here, that one of the "Video Controllers" [called "Video Controller (VGA Compatible)] installed just fine. I just don't know why there's two "Video Controllers" in Device Manager. Do you still suggest me to install the driver you linked to? I mean.. will it install over the drivers I've already installed (VGA Compatible) or that's the one for just the "Video Controller" with the exclamation mark?
Long story short - you can see from here, that I've already installed one graphics driver successfully, but now there's one left.

Re: [HELP] Questions about DriverPacks failed install

Would one update to the same driver for both controllers
(One device & driver for each digital video output port)?

As for the unidentified devices, one of them is related to manual-input.

Vendor 03F0=Hewlett Packard
DeviceID 1024=HP USB Smart Card Keyboard
MI (?) 01=HP USB Smart Card Keyboard

(names quoted from "usbdevs.txt"; contained within Ray Hinchcliffe's SIV (System Information Viewer).

Would the following site contain working fallback drivers for the "Intel 82566DM Gigabit Ethernet"
& "USB Smart Card Keyboard"? http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/Te … nvOID=1093

This is all somewhat reminiscent of an old topic, btw:  http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=2856

Yes.
The two devices are tied together and are part of a single component.  The yellow exclamation symbol indicates a problem with the device so it's not "OK".
The driver I linked to is the one I used in DriverPack Graphics B but it's the full installer.  If it works then there is something clearly wrong with DriverPack Graphics B that I need to fix.  If it doesn't work then there might be something wrong with your actual hardware or something that HP did in that particular box.

What model HP is it?
