Topic: Self Signing Drivers

I thought this might be a good read and might help us out with figuring out how to edit these drivers better or more efficiently. Do you guys already know about this?

Re: Self Signing Drivers

I knew about the inf2cat tool.  It's used by the DriverHeaven Mobility Modder tool.

From what I understand, Catalog (.cat) file creation is not all that difficult with the right tools.  Windows will still complain about drivers that are not signed with a certificate that it can recognize.
But WHQL-certificate driver signing is the holy grail of driver development and costs $$$.

Re: Self Signing Drivers

did we not say we do not use DDK?

as mvp, I have the  DDK software (look at the learning pains topic. I did say we cannot use it.. because we are not hardware manufactors.. so, it is fat lot of use to us.), and in the team nobody ever bothered with it.

Re: Self Signing Drivers

I don't need it.  It's more trouble than it's worth.  Just disable the requirement for driver-signing and you're set.
In Vista, that's a different matter altogether.  Driver-signing is required.

Speaking of which, I just noticed they released an nvidia version of it!
Just wanted to make sure you were aware of that smile

Only with 64bit version of the OS.
Otherwise, I'd be fubar'ed with that Vista laptop sitting right next to me and its HD 2400 GFX...
(thankfully, Mobility Modder saved the day!)

Re: Self Signing Drivers

Yup.  I knew all about their nvidia tool.  I don't use it though.  I tried it out briefly.  It needs work.

LOL, yes Vista x64 has enough problems without adding driver issues into the mix. smile

Re: Self Signing Drivers

Hi,
I edited the earlier comment (it sounded somewhat gruff, and probably came over in a manner I did not intend.)

The essential thing was said in there, tho.
A tinkered CAT is of no benefit to us tinkerers.
