Topic: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

Hi there

I'm using the DriverPacks in conjunction with Sysprep and MySysprep to image the PCs here where I work - around 600 in total.

The image I have to date works on all but two models - both of which use a similar MSI mainboard.

When booting the image for the first time, after Sysprep and running M2 from BASE, the XP mini setup should load, but instead I get a BSOD:

I've tried on several of this type of machine so I'm pretty confident this is a software problem and not a hardware one.

Here are the HWIDs from one of the machines affected (MS-7191 v1.1):

The mainboards are MSI MS-7191 v1.1 and MS7145 v2.1

I've tried changing RAM and installing both ATI and NVidia PCI-E graphics cards but always get the same error.

The HAL in the image is set to ACPI (as it is in the old image that we have for SP1). MySysprep changes the HAL before Mini-Setup but we never get that far on these machines.

All current official driverpacks are integrated (as of yesterday so some 7.05 and some 7.04) and M2 from BASE v7.05.1.

I'll try and get HWIDs from the other failing mainboard ASAP.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Alex

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

0x7E is often related to sound cards or hardware conflicts, IIRC.

In this case, I assume it is a driver conflict - which is a royal pain to narrow down. I suggest you start over and ONLY slipstream MassStorage. If that works, add Chipset, then Graphics A, and so on.

OK- thanks for the pointer. I'm busy rolling some fresh images now and will get back to you tomorrow with results!

Cheers

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

Hi again

OK I did an image only rolling in the MassStorage driver pack. I get exactly the same error as before.

This happens before the text based part of the setup - ie I only see the XP logo with scrolling dots before the BSOD. Appologies if my previous post was misleading - it was only when I read it back this morning that I noticed it wasn't clear what I meant.

Thanks

Alex

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

I am downloading a 171Mb driverdisk for the 9171 mobo (model RS482M4)

this will hopefully help us find out which driver conflicts here.

Mr GorTham got helped by using only Sil Image [S-5-A] (with a modification to get his specific HWID in it) and an unmodified [S-4]
iow, he got succes with a very tiny pack. (only two drivers)

I could do such for you too, but that would not be the best solution for rollouts.
The download should have the specific HWIDS in the drivers they supply, and I hope to help you that way.

I must point  out that Mr Gortham tried with a full mass storage (which had the modification in S-5-A for 3112R ) and still had a conflict.
This means we have another queste on our hands. (AAARGH, which one is messing with the ATI variant of Sil-Image 3112 or 3112r ?? )

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

if you found chipset test 7053 PLEASE ditch chips 7053 (scrub it)
Method 1 cannot work with it

new TEST version of mass and chips
Mass storage 7054test has corrections for ATI-Sil 3112R and SiL 3112R (and new intel drivers as well)

and chips 7054test again has the folder structure M1 expects it to have (with updated drivers)

Fab Jaak.

Many thanks. I'll start a new image rolling now before I leave work and report back tomorrow morning.

Wow what service - a donation is definitly in order.

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

I hope these two 7054 testpacks work for you guys.

driver in [S-5] and [S-5-A] had a bunch of identical HWIDs for ATI.
the new ATI file (INF and CAT was a newer version) I got was put in [S-5-A], and has a whole lot more HWIDs for ATI, and I made that one NOT load the silicon-image HWIDs during textmode.
I also made the [S-5] Not load identical ATI during textmode.

PnP has more distinction capabilities, and should load the driver that got a match during txtmode.

If I find other drivers with dupe HWIDs, I'll do more work on that. There are fewer Sil-Image problems than there once were, and I can be stubborn.

I think we cannot say NO to donations. smile

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

Hi Jaak

I've tried the two new packs and I'm still getting the STOP error as before. This build had all the packs plus yours in it. I'll try one with just the two new packs and see if that buys me anything.

Thanks

Alex

Hi Jaak

Sorry! I built a new image with just the test 7054 Chipset and 7056 Mass Storage and I'm still getting a STOP 0x7E before text based setup...

all these mass storage test versions, and the updates do not work.
I am pulling them

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

Hi Alex,
this testpack has an updated driver in folder S\5\A 5 (silicon Image 3112r).

There is also an attempt to fix Jmicron 36X issues in this testpack.
The test here is that Gigabyte's HWIDs were put in the newer Jmicron driver's INF, rather than keep this older version used by Gigabyte. (located at J\1 in previous test versions. )
If all is well, both RAID and AHCI modi are supported by a single driverset.

These testpacks also had newest official Intel driver.

(link to mass storage testpack removed here)

Well, if this works for you, let us know. We hope it does, because that is better than using customised packs.
if it fails, then there is a driver which causes a clash and crash, and we hope to find it.

To help you out, you can find a tiny pack in your mailbox, with those updated drivers for your model motherboard.
If that one works, then it is like you said.. Then we KNOW FOR SURE there is some undetected partybuster.
Good luck, and please let us know the results.

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

Hi jtdoom,

I tested an installation with the DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_7059test4 on my system (Gigabyte P965 DS4). On the screen before formatting the drives it will recognize my HDs on jraid instead of iastore...
So it will not work at all. With the latest official MassStoragePack 7.05 (iastore Vers. 6.2 i think) it works.
There is a problem with the newest iastore. I´ve made a test with the iastore Vers. 7.0 - same problem. Only with the 6.2 it´s o.K.

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

thanks.

I think we can conclude that iastor Version 7.5.0.1017 is a non-viable update.
Like Rolf Harris says "Back to the drawing board". sad

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

Could you test this home made MassStorage DP ?
I've changed it myself to include MSN 7.5, and it worked on latest P35 chipset (ICH9) on a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P.

Tried it on a D965QGF, the 6.21 driver gets installed. ICH8R is compatible with the newer 7.5 driver.

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

@ maximum
Tested on Gigabyte P965 DS4, driver 5.5.0 gets installed...
But it should be 7.5.

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

there is a mass storage 706_TEST2 version up in nightlies, and that one attempts to fix the following

JMICRON JMB36X issues
folder \J\1 is gone, the HWIDs are put in J\2 which has a newer driver.

(release 705 has an old AHCI for Gigabyte in there, and after release this was at first exchanged with an update by Gigabyte.. In this new testpack this is now gone, for people found two Jmicrons in hardware manager (yellow splats) when version 1.17.17 is used along with files in the existing pack?)

merged ATI-SiL-Image 3112r HWIDs in \S\5 (which is the newer)
\S\5\A gone (silly image clashes with silicate image)

there were neccesary changes in INTEL section.
I thought Maxximum's work was good and had put it in test1, and then got a reply that intel gave an error.
I should have checked.
(mind you, this intel AHCI issue seems to keep coming back with each intel update...)

as is, you ought to test this on
INTEL, (INTEL should be tested along with chipset 706test1.)
JMICRON 36x
SIL3112r

chipset706test1

storage706_TEST2

If this one works, I earned a cigar.

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

Bad news, jtdoom.
Mass storage 706_TEST2 don't work with my Gigabyte P954 DS4, jraid gets installed instead iastor...

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

I am stumped.
brb

storage706_TEST_3

erm, If this one works, I earned a cigar.
I will burn me a quicky and test it on a machine with Jmicron chip. (I Wanna know if Jmicron actually works)
I'll also look if I can test on the machine with intel chip (may need to use a spare drive)
I believe it uses ICH7 (and this update was for ICH9 support...) so that THAT test result will not be conclusive.

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

Hi jtdoom,

Test3 not working too on my Gigabyte P965 DS4. Jraid is installed...
For the Jmicron there exist an newer driver than in the driverpack at the Jmicron Website, Ver. 1.17.18.07.
Maybe try a test with this one??

Thanks for your hard work!

reini.m

Edit: I've made a test by disabling the JMicron in the ini. Result: the iastor 7.5.1017 was not installed, my harddisks were recognized at 'unknown'.
So the problem would be the Intel-Driver 7.5.1017.

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

@ reini.m : can you post your HWIDs please ? (http://www.driverpacks.net/Downloads/save_hwids.exe)

Can you test without Jmicron at all ?
Or not you need Jmicron because you have two PATA drives you want to use them in RAID mode ?

Re: STOP Error 0x000007E before XP Mini-Setup

@ jtdoom : I've checked HWIDs supported by officials Intel drivers 5.5.0, 6.2.1, 7.0.0 and 7.5.0 I've downloaded from Intel website.

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2922&CC_0106.DeviceDesc	= "Intel(R) ICH9 SATA AHCI Controller"

It seems MSN 5.5.0 & 6.2.1 could be removed, and using 7.0.0 & 7.5.0 is enough to support all HWIDs [MSM 7.5.0 is required to support latest P35 chipset].
However, 82801ER and 6300ESB are supported only with v5.5.0 (v6.2.1 supports 82801FR).

==> 3 versions needed ?
