As far as I know, if you clone your image to a different PC with a different motherboard, XP usually will not boot (BSOD). If the M/B is the same, and the other hardware is different, it might work. I've seen clones boot up on different M/B's, but they usually have problems. Haven't done it alot, so you may get better results. Who can say? Anyway, good luck.

@ Level
No, I'm installing XPsp2 on a machine with a SB PCI card.

Dave

I tried to update from Base 7.01.6 to 7.04 using the updater.
It failed, emptied the lang folder, deleted the old base exe file, and left the temp folder behind.
Windows error msg was;

DPs_BASE_7.04.exe is not a valid WIN32 application.

Downloaded the 7zip file and ran that to install 7.04.
Worked OK.

Got problems with the updater?

DriverPacks BASE 7.01.6
DriverPack Sound B 6.12
The OS install went fine, about 30 min. However, no sound.
Creative Sound Blaster AudioPCI 128D (WDM) did not install.
The software files were loaded, it created the SBPCI folder and all.
I just used Device Manager to look for driver, it found the WDM and
installed it. Version numbers match the ones in the driver pack, so all
is good. Still, it should have installed unattended.
Windows setup log showed this;

I checked the VIA web site and this is what they say.

VIA Vinyl Audio driver - Multilingual

Codecs supported: This driver supports all VIA southbridges with integrated sound plus several audio codecs as below.

Release history: This combination driver was first published on 24 June 2002. Prior to 24 June 2002, there was driver 74mu170a for VT8233/VT8233A/VT8233C and driver 68MU220b for VT686A, 686B & VT8321. The "combo" driver combined those two drivers into the one package and added support for the (at the time) new VT8235 southbridge. Further improvements have been made in subsequent releases, including adding support for more codecs and the driver package is now called Vinyl_AudioCodec.

VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT82C686A/B South Bridges
VIA AC97 codecs incorporated into VT8233, VT8233A, VT8233C, VT8235 and VT8237/R South Bridges
VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT8231 South Bridge
VIA AC97 codec incorporated into VT8251 South Bridge
VIA Vinyl audio codecs: VT1612A VT1613 VT1616 VT1617 VT1618

They all use the 6.14.01.4180 [6.80b] Vinyl driver.

Is that why the V4 folder is not there?

Dave

The folder was supposed to added in DP_Sound_A_wnt5_x86-32_612, according to the changelog. I checked my backup copy and it's not there either.

You can find them under the '3rd Party DriverPacks' section.
Look at the first 'sticky' post. It lists all the 3rd Party DriverPacks with links to them.

While I admit the Mitsumi card reader isn't a high-end unit, it hasn't given me any problems. It just seemed odd that nLite, AutoImage, and DPs_Base are the only programs that do this.
At any rate, considering the age of my hardware, it probably is something on my end.

@ Helmi
What card readers are you using. I use flash drives alot and maybe I should get a better unit.

Thanks for all the input.
Dave

Really strange. This happens with DPs_BASE, nLite, AutoPatcher, and RayansVM Integrator, but doesn't happen with other windows apps such as Quicken, Excell, TurboTax, ect. Don't have a clue as to why.

When I install XP on this machine, (gonna be a while yet), I'll see if it still happens. Maybe something in 2k's API is different than XP's API.
Anybody out there with a cardreader on XP that could check it out?

Dave

Here's a screenshot. (hope this works)

I'm running Win2KproSP4, HDD's are on an onboard Promise controller, and I have a Mitsumi floppy/card reader combo drive. Using DPs_BASE v7.01.2.

When I run the DPs_BASE program, I get an error. It happens any time I try to browse to a new directory. This is the error code;

Never seen that type of path before. DPs_BASE was obviously looking at the cardreader. How does DPs_BASE look for the HDD's anyway?

If I click on continue several times it'll eventually find the HDD's and allow me to select a source directory. Everything runs correctly from then on. This also happens with nLite, and RayansVM Integrator.

I thought it might be 'cause I'm on 2k, or maybe the Promise controller. Now I hear that it might be an issue with the internal card reader. So I tried it without the cardreader, and DPs_BASE found my HDD's just fine.

I've allready built an UAXP-CD using the current versions and installed to another machine with an onboard Promise controller, but no card reader. Everything went great, no problems.

Not a real problem when using DPs_BASE since it'll eventually find my drives. Just have to remember to disconnect the cardreader from this machine before installing XP.

If you ever find out why it does this, I would like to know.

Dave

I probably should have started a new thread.
My issue was happening when I was using the DPs_BASE program to create the UAXP install CD, not during XP setup.

Dave

@ Bâshrat the Sneaky

My problem was happening when I was using the DPs_BASE program.
Seems to happen with nLite and RayansVM also.
Sorry about the confusion.

Dave

Update;
Tried without cardreader and DPs_BASE found my HDD's just fine. Here's the error code that's generated when the cardreader is installed.

btw - Thank's a bunch for all you guys have produced. I'll see if I can float some $$$ your way next payday.

Will do, but tomorrow.
Getting late.

Dave

Same symptom, only it's happening just running the DPs_BASE.
I'm running Win2KproSP4, HDD's are on an onboard Promise controller, and I have a floppy/card reader combo drive.
When I run the DPs_BASE program, I get the same issue as the first post. It happened when I first ran the program, and then any time I try to browse to a new directory. The program seems to have a hard time finding the HDD's. btw- this also happens with nLite, and RayansVM Integrator. I thought it might be 'cause I'm on 2k, or maybe the Promise controller. I'm getting ready to install XP on this machine, so any answers to this issue would be great.

@ Toolman;
Thanks man, exactly what I was looking for. I knew I'd read it somewhere....

@ Overflow;
I really did read your info, just wasn't using the floppy boot method.

Thanks all for the input. big_smile

Elbrute

Was thinking more along the lines of this;

http://oem.microsoft.com/script/content … eID=554376

Only without the OEM branding, factory mode, ect.
Trying to see if I can use the winnt.sif file thats on our UXPCD, with a few changes, in the floppy drive and have our CD read the floppys file instead of the CDs.

Elbrute

I've been doing OEM installs using the OPK. Somewhere in the docs is that info, just haven't found it yet.
Just thought I'd ask you guys first. Thanks for the feedback. smile

Elbrute

If I put a copy of the answer file on a floppy, will setup use the floppy version instead of the one on the CD?
