OverFlow how do I know what files need to be copied over for the control panel? I have been trying to figure out what files are needed it looks like these files need to be copied over but I must be missing some because the control panel still will not load?

SMax4.exe
SMax4pnp.exe
SMWDMIF.DLL

Here is a link to the driver from Asus if you get a chance to look at it and can point me in the right direction that would be excellent.

Hi OverFlow,

No it is being installed from one directory back \D\S\SM\A\3\ and that one also has no control panel in it what do I need to add to add the control panel? Also if you look at the SM directory which if for all the SoundMAX drivers you will see none of them have the control panel being installed.

Thanks,

Hi Jaak,

I did another fresh install with the SOUND A and B 7.11.03 nightlies and once again it installed the correct driver. I do have one problem and I am not sure what is causing it I get this error when I run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (DirectSound test results: Failure at step 10 (Secondary buffer): HRESULT = 0x80004005 (Generic failure) I decided to remove the drivers that the DP installed and installed the drivers that Asus provides they were the same as what is in the DP I checked the file hashes and they matched. Once the drivers where installed with the setup program which also installs the SoundMAX Control Panel I retested the system again with the dxdiag tool and this time all test pass? I know I asked before about getting the driver to also install the control panel but don't know if you ever seen the question is it possible? If not that is fine the driver is at least installing now..... What do you think is causing the error with the dxdiag?

Here is the info from the current setupapi.log file. I thought it might be good to see it.

Hi Jaak,

Excellent work for the first time the install worked with both sound A & B packs. I have some more testing to do and will provide some log info a little later.

Hi Jaak,

I will wait for sound A to run the test again seeing how that is what was causing my problems. Once sound A is ready I will run the test with both packs to make sure the packs can work together.

Jaak

Thanks for taking the time to try and fix this if you look back at the sound forum post you will see several people had posted problems with the sound packs causing BSOD here is a post I had posted a while ago. http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=1794 Now here is the thing we used to see all kinds of BSOD with the sound packs until the generic sound drivers were added what happened for me was the install would now complete but installed the wrong sound drivers that is why I decided to try and help. Let me know when you have the sound packs ready to test again.

Thanks,

It seems that your HWID has been founded by 4 sound drivers. I think that windows selects by date of the drivers, but if the driver is not trusted, it selects the following. In your case, has selected vinyl because is newer and also is trusted. if you want to install the SoundMax, you must comment the other lines in which your HWID has been founded.

Major I understand that but that really is not the solution to this problem for one thing the vinyl is not even the correct driver and if that was the case about commenting out the other HWID's I would have to remove the complete Vinyl AC'97 Codec Combo Driver. If you look at the HWID's  in the sound pack A there really is a problem there if I do not use the sound A pack all is fine. The work Jaak has done so far on the sound B pack is excellent and seems to have fixed other problems I was having with other boards now we need to do some cleanup on the sound A pack. I can't believe more people are not having problems with the sound packs in my opinion there is no way Sound A should be looking for the HWID PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5 all by itself as it matches way to many HWID's from VIA, SoundMAX and others. Can someone explain to me why we would not also be looking for the SUBSYS info is there a reason the vinyl AC`97 Codec Combo Driver is only looking for the VEN and DEV ID's

Thanks,

Hi Jaak,

Finally some good news the driver installed correctly for the fist time when I did not include Sound A driver pack.... I noticed that it does not install the SoundMAX Control Panel I also do not see it listed in the main ini file for driver pack B is that something you can do I looked it over but I don't really know how to add it to the ini. What are you going to do with the duplicates in Sound A with Sound B ? Let me know if I can help in any way. I am still trying to learn how the packs are configured sorry I can't help more but I sure hope my testing is helping you.

Thanks again,

Hi Jaak,

Sorry to report is still has not fixed the soundmax driver problem on the Asus P5PE-VM motherboard. it is still installing the VIA Vinyl AC`97 Codec Combo Driver.

I did some more research to see if I could find out what is still causing it to choose the wrong driver the correct Hwid is in the new test pack. Here is what I found in the DPFinsher log (2007-11-04 04:22:27 : <FLTR> Matched +infFile"C:\D\S\V\2\VinylCmp.inf" through the HWID "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5" (original HWID: "PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5&SUBSYS_82271043&REV_02"). As you can see it is stopping at the DEV_24D5 and never looking at the SUBSYS_8227104 After looking more at this that file is in the Sound A pack and if you look at the VinylCmp.inf in that pack you will see it never looks for a SUBSYS I think this is what is causing all the problems with the soundmax and other drivers. Here is whats listed in the VinylCmp.inf file as you can see these DEV ID's are for more than just the VIA audio. I don't see how this can work the way it is with out looking at the SUBSYS it's late maybe I am lost on all of this let me know what you think and thanks for sticking with this.

Hi,

Jaak excellent work I will test later this even I have one question I notice that the \D\S\SM\A\3\O is still there and it is the only folder that contains the HWID for the Asus board I listed (PCI\VEN_1039&DEV_7012&SUBSYS_810D1043) will the driver still be found if it is in that folder?

Let me know when you are ready with a test pack and I will try it out on the two Asus boards I have here and thanks for the work on this. Also what are you using to find all the duplicates in the inf files I have really crewed way that I am using but it takes for ever to find them all.

driver link.

Offtop: I haven't 56K Modem, but I have satellite internet at my new work. At home I haven't internet at all. I'm very busy at work at now, I haven't time to release SoundMax DP.

I would like to get a copy of this can some one post this to a location where I can download it?

Thanks,

Hi,
access login and password was changed a good while ago, and the details are in a sticky.
I believe donors have access to that forum with the sticky.

Hi Jaak The only ftp login info I am finding is in the 3rd party forum what forum in the stick you are talking about in? I looked in the testing team forum and did not see it there unless I missed it.

Thanks,

Jaak,

Ok I have another question I was just looking at the INF file from Asus and trying to figure out where it should go in the the pack and I think is belongs in the D\S\SM\A\3 directory but what is the extra folder in that directory? There is a O folder in there and that is the only directory like that should that folder be there?

Thanks again for the help,
dolivas

I looked at that one too. It must have been an O for OLD, but the driver in there is the newer.
The changelog might shed a light.

@ debugger.
we can do just like last time.
(it will save connection time on the 56K modem..)
Upload the additions to FTP, and let us put them in the Pack for you.
We'll then put the Pack up for test (big upload), and later publish (another big upload).

@ Jaak
I looked at the HWID's in the O folder and they are the ones missing for the other Asus board I reported to you. Here is what I did. I copied the files in the O folder to and new folder D\S\SM\A\8 because if you look at the HWID's cover in the O folder you will see they are not covered any where else in the pack. I then updated the D\S\SM\A\3 folder with the drivers I sent you from Asus and it covers the HWID's I was missing for the first Asus motherboard (P5PE-VM) and was newer then what was in the D\S\SM\A\3 directory. I am going to test it right now and will get back to you let me know what you are doing on your end.

Thanks,

Jaak,

Ok I tested the pack on the Asus P5PE-VM motherboard and it is still installing the wrong drivers. So I decide to do some research on the HWID for this motherboard the HWID is listed as  PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5&SUBSYS_82271043&REV_02\3&267A616A&0&FD I assume that the only part that is important is PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5&SUBSYS_82271043 I checked all the INF files in the pack and I do not find that HWID list in any of the INF files so I started to remove numbers until I found a match and I had to take the HWID down to this PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_24D5&SUBSYS_8 before I found a match I found a bunch with that ID and they were all AC97 drivers. So the question I have is if an exact match is not found would it do what I did with the HWID and find the closes match and select it? Now what do we need to do to get the HWID added to the pack? Here is a link to the sound driver from Asus http://dlsvr03.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/soc … Q1Camr.zip  I did not get a chance to test the Intel board but I did search the INF files and I only found 1 reference to it. I am going to keep the board and extra day so I can check this pack on it I will report back later on that one.

Ok I have another question I was just looking at the INF file from Asus and trying to figure out where it should go in the the pack and I think is belongs in the D\S\SM\A\3 directory but what is the extra folder in that directory? There is a O folder in there and that is the only directory like that should that folder be there?

Hi Jaak,

Thanks for taking the time to look at this I noticed you just updated the Sound B test pack in the beta section is this to try and fix the problem I am having or for some thing else? I have the Asus P5PE-VM motherboard here to test it on and I also have the Intel motherboard but that will be getting sent out to my brother tomorrow so if this is a test pack for that board also I will run a quick test on it this evening. Please let me know ASAP if the new Sound B test pack is for the problems I am having.

Thanks,
dolivas

Hello everyone,

I have some problems with the sound packs that do not seems to be fixed yet. The first one is for a Asus P5PE-VM motherboard I have reported this before it used to just blue screen with the portcls.sys error now the install works but it's using the wrong drivers it's installing the Vinyl AC'97 sound drivers and should be using the Soundmax drivers. Here are the HWIDS

Ok thanks for the reply.

I was updating the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver in the R/2 directory and noticed this file (HDXSamsu.INF) in with the others is this file not for 64bit Windows and should not be in the pack? Please let me know if I am right or wrong.

Thanks,
dolivas
