I doubt I'll be able to help in a timely fashion... sorry.

Boss said forget about it, use legacy setting and the machines will run fine.

I can keep at it solo, but on my own time.

Yes getting 7b mass storage, trick is using the proper drivers and setting up a legit text mode way to use them. My biggest concern was as I said before keeping track of the drivers I've used in setup. Currently I have the DriverPacks Chipset, CPU, LAN, and Mass Storage extracted via Base, and grabbed drivers from 3 legacy white boxes (just for confidence), and that's it. Besides the problem I had posted in the Unattended forum I've deployed to 9 different machines without issue...

Until the newer Dells.

As I said, boss says the users can live with the legacy non-AHCI support. I figure if I even get it going right it will be a convoluted and round about way like the post I linked to. I only hoped to use the default DriverPack's directory without manually adding this and that driver, and keeping a list of what I added.

I wish I could help more, but being on probationary status with the new job I don't think I'm going to have enough real time to do actual testing in a live environment.

Bummer of it is I have this exact problem related to a Dell 780

I DL's the drivers and am working on it, but I was hoping to not keep track of 2 or 3 different driver sources.

This link refers to a "MassStorage" pack, but the latest MassStorage pack is listed as updated Jan 9, 2009

Just an FYI it worked this time with no issues. Either the last DVD was corrupt, the file was corrupt, or something irregular. It pulled the driver from the driverpacks folder according to the log.

Well I am following someone over at MSFN's step by step, but I can't do it all exactly because she used VMware Workstation, and my company won't purchase a license for it, so I'm doing it on a live box. That's the only difference basically.

My questions are thus:
Are these older Dell drivers in the driver packs? Simple question, didn't need all that information
What about newer model Dells, I have about 11 different models I am going to be dealing with?Another simple question
If Dell drivers are not in the packs, is there a Dell pack of drivers I haven't heard about?

I never asked to help me fix this, as I solved my problem on my own. I only wondered about Dell drivers in general in relation to the driverpacks. But there's you information anyway, since I don't need any help with universal imaging, is this in the correct forum now?

OK, first off I don't think I asked a question as simple as "why won;t my car run?"

Second, I have no idea what these things are:
RVMI, Serabys, hfslip, OLSP, OEMpnpPath, SAD, KTD, HWID

I don't know everything, and I don't profess to. You want to know my process? fine, this is going to be a looooong post, as this is mine and our companies first attempt at this (no one here has ever done it, and we are still testing if it can be done, hence the question about the driver).

To start I have a network folder with my driver resources \\myfolder\testing\drivers

In that folder are drivers I collected with 2 methods. first:
Using driverpacks base, 8.12.5 I choose english, stand alone drivers, selected is chipset 10.02, cpu 9.12, lan 10.03, massstorage 9.01, method 1, disable qsc, other optional settings not available. When complete I moved the contents of c:\driver packs test\ready\driverpacks.net  to the network share folder. \\myfolder\testing\drivers\DriverPacks

Second I used the tool here: http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/83960-u … er-backup/ and saved the drivers in directories based on the pc model. I then moved those into the network share also. \\myfolder\testing\drivers\PCNAME

I then copied the contents of the network share \\myfolder\testing\drivers to c:\windows\driver cache so now in c:\windows\driver cache there are 2 directories i386, and drivers.


Since this is a test situation, not everything is set up yet. I am using a Dell Optiplex 320 with the OEM installation of XP pro, service pack 3, and all current updates as of 3-1-2010. After a clean install, I run setupmgr, and create a new answer file. I choose sysprep setup, xp pro, fully automate, default display, time zone -6, product key, automatically generate a name, administrator password encrypted, typical network settings, join domain, default telephony, default regional, default languages, no printers, no run once, no additional commands. 
I modify sysprep.inf to the following:

and

following their instructions on proper usage.

I then run sysprep –bmsd, then I make sure the pc is set to acpi. Install internet explorer 8, foxit reader, and 2 other base programs we use at our company. I then run mysysprep, choosing minisetup, and reseal.

Once the machine is off I boot to a winpe disk, and capture the WIM image to a network folder. I then use petools to create an iso, burn a dvd, and the deployed the image to a Dell dimension 1100 test machine. everything worked except the network driver.

Hello, I hope this is in the right forum.

I am working on a hardware independent Windows XP image for my company. This is a new project, we have never done this before. We are small, and have a diverse list of Dell PC's in our group of ~80 workstations. While using MSFN's forums for most of my planning and testing stage all has gone ok, and I have used the driver packs here to support this project. I have done a few test deployments, with the same result each time. I am deploying via a DVD.

The trouble PC is one of my test machines, a Dell Dimension 1100.

The driver packs have provided drivers for many things, but every time I try this Dimension 1100 the LAN drivers for the Intel PRO 100 VE network card are not found. I obtained the driver here:

and it installs correctly of course. The trouble is this is an exe, and setup won't find the drivers without my interaction manually running this installer.

I searched the forum for any mention of the Dell Dimension 1100 to no avail. Most all the results were for much newer model Dells.


My questions are thus:
Are these older Dell drivers in the driver packs?
What about newer model Dells, I have about 11 different models I am going to be dealing with?
If Dell drivers are not in the packs, is there a Dell pack of drivers I haven't heard about?
Does anyone have any suggestions on my best course of action?

<EDIT> BTW Looking at the inf, it is the Intel 8255x and a search of the forum for "Intel 8255" also had zero results.
