hi
strange that the paths are D\D\ , isn't it?

biometrics will be in our belgian future soon enough...

I'd rather not not have "paranoia", yet in our day and age, we see a LOT of paranoids annoying techy boards.
Standards agreements always are about BIG money.
Every Govt wants its own hand in it, what makes me think Wim will be 70 before he sees a real standard.

you don't sleep either?

Hi Wim

a few minutes after I wrote I had not doneted "YET", I did.
Go get a Palm. Don't wait until we meet in 2027.

Deze creditcardtransactie verschijnt op uw factuur als "PAYPAL *BASHRATTHES".
(ik keek daarnet ff, en zag dat de betaling reeds "aanvaard" werd.)

I would not mind to see the adsensebot empty mssgs get out of my sight.
There is perhaps no need to change the 'title' since I am already in "beta tester" group.
If title changes by changing the "perks", I can always choose a 'title' of my own choosing, I guess.

the title, as it is now, it suits me fine. Will run 608.5 tonight.

tinker/beta tester

wait a second
if I were to first set language to dutch, and just before I slipstream change it to english, it would work?

I usually don't even change it to Dutch (done that maybe two/three times, in the early beta... most of the ini I kept in my logs folders show it is left to default (english).

I am doing the first burn on a method 1, including sound a.
It just finished.

(winnt.sif had a couple instances of ;;;;;;;; in the last line of oempath, and a few double;; earlier in the path.)

CU...

I'll ask it again
svcpack.inf is (in my eyes) just a txt file
how come little endian has anything to do with ansi?

edit
next I know I ask a friend over here. BIG endian lover.
I wonder wether he'd be interested. the geezer must be approx my age.
used to be a great code guy on te forae.

another improvement
when 888111 got installed by me, i had NO cmd in window pop ups .

as always, I stayed with 888111 until it finished
(HW found will pop over it but I know one process must finish before other))
and when that ended OK, HW found had no issue finding drivers.

I really wonder what would happen if one lets 888111 install when it werent't "needed"
corrupt svcpack inf content  again 57 bytes

I wonder what 888111 would break if installed when it was not needed.

graphics A, lan, sound a, mass, chips, cpu.
chip for realtek azalia 0802 again not loaded/detected

svcpack.inf for hotfix 888111 corrupt

improvements, tho.
the GUI walk did not get me the "user errors"

Hi wim
just read new intro page.
Great reading.
small error I noticed.
Says two graphics packs, and it got split to three...

hi guys
I have not donated anything but time to this, YET.
My purse is loaded with 2cents, tho.
U all know the expression, right?

In an email Wim said he was surprised I am not in the IT bizz.

I am still thinking I am no more than a hobbyist, a mere tinker.
Spent many years in forae, and some old friends think I am a guru.
I know different. I am but a tinker.
I feel humbled by my lack of understanding of how you guys do things.

I just saw 6.08.2 is up.
If I were a professional in IT, I'd prolly not have spent hours on this at home.

I also said to Wim that the guys in redmond should wise up. (sorta)
Because I currently have an indirect line to redmond development decicion makers staff, I can try show them where they must improve their product... No kidding, they do listen to public beta testers, and a main sub-idea of this MVP program is also to get them improve the products they offer.

Efforts like these (and yours, siginet) will attract attention by those in the need.
Stable products can be a godsend. Those in the need will notice.
I know IT geeks, they are often so"dazed and confuzed" that a side remark with a solution gets me a reaction like "HUH?".
This did happen. A week later, same two IT guys do some other chore, and I ask wether they looked it up.
the "fix" was not forgotten, and was rolled out. (in our NT4 and win95 days)

Anyway, I thought there might be bugs in AutoIt itself.
Long time ago, I wrote simple WP macros.
a tool to do that in a GUI was developed.
Man, that got me buggy and loopy macros.
You were born about that time, Wim. YEP. That long ago.
I am not freakingly geeky and not intelligent either, so I never learned programming.

But I can foresee a future where we have a Palm, and muse about the days only One blue-ray DVD was needed to boot for setup.
Your efforts are appreciated, let me make that known.
these were my 2cents for today.

and I will now listen to Led Zep...

hi
I launch DPsbase (it has no ini yet)
it hilites english, I hit apply
hit arrow to next page

it goes to choice disc multiboot where none of the two are ticked, with browser button.
click browser, show it where source is
disc is automatically filled in, and i hit the arrow to proceed.
(when I think about what happened, I did not notice the scan... I hit the arrow when I saw the disk option was filled in.)

it goes to driverpacks update check, everything is up to date
hit arrow
get the about page.
hit exit
(well, I know something is wrong... it skipped pages...)

the INI I got as result

what happens when I launch BPsbase again and hit slipstream button with above files
the platform is not supported
that's because it don't find it, of course.
the user will have to walk through settings again.
that's a good thing.

btw, I am still trying to reproduce the clicks that got me that non-updated txtsetup and dosnet.inf

in that same build
dosnet.inf was also not altered.
dosnet.org exists
content and date same as original

Hi Wim

did it in a fresh source, from a fresh unpacked base 6801, soundpack not in driverpacks folder.

wham, even when chips and mass storage are in there, hard disks are not seen when I launch the DVD for setup in my testrig..

and the surprise...

the resulting TXTSETUP.SIF
does NOT have the mass storage drivers put in it
the txtsetup.org is there, and the txtsetup.sif is exact same date

iteraid is NOT in the txt whatsoever, which is no surprise if it was not altered at all.

will try to reproduce that exactly...

do you want the txtsetup.sif?
(i think it's of no use, since its a non-processed copy of the original..)

the svcpack.inf found was 57 bytes, with same content as the older bad ones.

second trial will commence in 15 minutes or so, it is burned to DVD right now.
no soundpack this time

Hi
I was surprised to see some command windows open and not shut in third stage of setup.
One stayed on top of Finisher 'last build' until I closed it, and finisher proceeded...

8-) 'last build' , I sure hope NOT...
I would suggest to change that in the version number wink

looked at HWmangler as I hear nothing from speakers, and realtek 0882 HDaudio is not installed
PCI device with yellow exclamation.

I look at svcpack.inf, and it is once again corrupted.

then I run KB888111 update myself, and this immediately triggers the audio hardware found.
(two cmd windows with RunDll32 with prompt in system32 folder pop up... I never seen such actions before)
I close them, and the tray soon says the hardware can be used..

it must be frustrating to not find the cause of this 888111 failure / svcpack.inf corruption
the UNPACKED svcpack,in_ on DVD has that corrupt txt in it, so it not during extraction...

wanted to test with soundpack 6.061, but will do one without sound to see the difference..

if that 888111 corruption is because of the soundpack, then I better wait for soundpack 1 update...

call it user error.
sorry to have bothered you

hmmm

could be user error
moved the log and ini out, and tried again
show source, then tick disc, and then it went the full parade of options.

I recall I had done it just slightly different this morning.
will see wether that is reproducable.

Hi

DPsBase 6.081 has problems.
I unpacked it to a clean folder, and then put the driverpacks I want in the newly created driverpacks folder.
then put a new copy of source CD in a folder on same drive.
and then I start DPsbase.exe
I use the arrow to proceed, point it to the source folder, and it goes to check updates, and done.

the ini that is created looks like this

[General]
; preferred language
prefLang	= "English"
; yes/no, enable or disable the wizard-style buttons, if not specified: yes
wizardButtons	= "yes"
; yes/no, enable or disable the GUI, if not specified: yes
GUI		= "yes"

[Settings]
; disc/bartpe/multibootDisc
instPlatform	= "disc"
; trailing backslash is allowed, but not necessary
location	= ""

I am sure that a second or third run will eventually result in a INI with all the options in place.
(because that was what happened when I tried 6081 earlier today.
its behaviour was different then, and a few starts later I coulod slipstream one.

I wanted to reproduce this error before I posted.
Looks like AutoIt has issues...
Too bad I wiped the log and ini and slipstreamed folder of the test I did this morning.

Hi
DPsBase 608 fails when one clicks all the way to the end.

AutoIt error

I realise this is OT, but...

when I install drivers or apps, I always go custom.
It is like it grew on me ever since I first saw 'custom' option, and that is long time ago.
It has plenty more merits than going default.

If I must quote myself...

I should have said
we all know the latest nvidia reference drivers are NOT always best for all.

the corollary is also true, latest drivers are not always best drivers.
it is true for catalyst, arena, wotchamicallit.

I have a nvidia 6600, I have no need for the tray icon. I am no tweaker, and not a gamer. the cpl is in control panel is there if I leave it there, and a R-click for props in desktop is always there, but the tray thingy is seldom long-lived.

I hate the ati tray icon even more... I stopped buying ati for the background services crud.

NVIDIA...
I have a 6600 NON sli motherboard.

before 608_A, no problem
now, the latest drivers (installed with RC3, A pack°, lan, chips, storage, cpu) are telling me that I have unplugged a sli card, EACH time I boot up.

this mobo has pci-e, and no SLI bridge. Okay, IMHO, that is a bad by nvidia.
We all know reference drivers are NOT always best for all.

I wanted you guys to know this is an nvidia reference driver issue.

I have to service a SLI mobo soon (it has just ONE sli capable card), and if that requires a new install, I will learn some more.
