recently loaded VPC2007

in VPC2007, clean dutch sp2 OEM, DP all on this source with Winnt.sif, KTD all, gets desktop.ini
that's nothing new.
Since Mikelm asked, yes, I had noticed that there is a desktop.ini in program group.
But, it is different than the one in program/startup (I had looked at all those I found when I ran search that other time) OTOH, it is not normal that one finds one there, I realise now.

It does have identical line with that number in it, so there are two, the one that don't popup has more lines.
(I also have this funny feeling it is created after the popup.)

after a clean OEM source setup, that particular ini file we see popup is in windows\system.
with KTD, this moves to startup.
(again, nothing new.)

I have not tried with a PATTERN yet.
I am waiting for the bugfix release, so that we can rule out that D/D thing triggering this.

I would like to know wether PMtimer still runs when PNF is launched.
It is apparently not needed for PNF.
a 945D with 2*2Mb @ 3.4 with 2Gb DDRII dual channel running off a RAID is no slowpoke? (yet, the manual KTD worked flawless.)

the intention is that KTD moves, and does not delete the moved packs..

* when you use new harddrives, no problems.
* when you don't switch from array'ed drives to separates on ahci, no problem.
* and when you always use the DriverPacks Mass storage, there are no version differences.

the conditions we tried were indeed rather unique...

could you look at the i386 folder in that SP2 CDROM?

If it has a SVCPACK FOLDER, you would never have the corrupted svcpack.in_ issue (even when you put a winnt.sif for unnatended in a clean copy of that source before you base-stream it.), since that file does not exist in these latest SP2 releases.

I had to leave for work, but just before I did, I looked at the drivers at the asrock site

i put the string posted in the hwid above into search
and this is indeed found in jahci.inf
VEN_197B&DEV_2360
the other F6 driver floppy has ALI

in driverpacks mass storage, this string is found in raid and jahci infs (and nowhere else)

thus, what S3pHiroTh posts makes sense to me.

if the version does not match, then you could slipstream them using Nlite
I hope the mass storage pack will not clash with those

just to inform you that all tests I did were on real machines, w/i something Helmi and Wim are aware of.
If I ever do tests in VPC, I'll say so.

you need not do the no ktd / ktd all
I did that a dozen times, each time with less packs, less in the packs, until I entirely broke the process. (some packs have drivers the exception filter looks for, and removing half out of a pack could break the process)

each time I used KTD and the process was not broken, I got ini popup.
when I broke it, I would get a fault at line zero..

anyhow, there was that other topic in which I said I would do that...
and I did. I even mentioned it in this thread.

if the future build does not do d\d but still does ini popup, I'd have a good look at pmtimer.

Wim may want to look at the supplied drivers...

as a temporary solution, I could suggest Nlite and winimage
winimage to extract the floppy image to a folder (for that F6 floppy)
nlite to integrate only the content that extracted floppy (like I once did for my mobo)

post results

if it works that way, Bâshrat the Sneaky may want to look at the content of the F6 floppy and redo some filtering

I'll do a KTD test on clean english source with no localisation (hooking up my US keyboard even when I still know where most keys are, and know some of the oft used ALT+numerics  by heart.)

you see, the foreign languages have a default localisation.
(otoh, we can count our blessings. I recall US windows98 came with AOL and other crummy stuff set up by default.)

I said that the manual KTD proves nothing, it just proved to me that when i did it that way, it worked.  I did not even use pmtimer either, and the machine is a dual core 2*2Mb cached silly speedmonster..
now, there, I used that word too.

(which does not prove a thing either...)

I actually used ALL PLUS ALL third party.
then I put this on the DVD, together with the extracted files it needs to run.

just one R-klik in startup, and delete is what I do

got it on an ENGLISH source too, M2, KTD all, all else default, with locale settings for keyb and country in winnt.sif....
on pure source, or an RVM'ed, with KTD I got me HDsound working and desktop.ini
(the english sources do not have the svcpack.in_ issue)

got a problem on my main machine.
thought drive failure, but the array runs good in its twin.
looks like chip failure...
will crack wrap for two new drives.. to exclude the messup with iastor and AHCI driver versions.
(after all, the drive was originally set up with 5.00xxx the DpsPacked DVD has 5.5xxx and the new floppy has 6.0)

bad news
one of the stripe drives died in my main, and it was the array I boot from.
Good thing I have backups, I could have lost 400Gb of data.

I have to run setup on my main machine.
autopatcher tweaked it a little too much (shoulda have run that on a testrig.. tedomme), and some installs prevent me from looking at youtube movies
uninstalls of visual studio 2005, MSDN libraries, arovax, etc.. and reinstalls of java and player don't help.
Will look what I can do with spybot advanved... then prolly run repair setup.

I saw no such option in profile control panel, and thought the option did not exist.
But, today I saw it on main page, because I logged in from a testrig..

I just saw that main forum page login has the "forgotten" option.
