jdaniel wrote:hello,
I have an ASUS MB with ICH5 and my SATA HDD should arrive in the next couple of days.
After reading this thread I am really confused.
What should I do or what file should I edit ?
PS. I do not have a FDD so this is really important...
Thanks.
You want to comment out the one driver that conflicts with tthe ICH5R by adding a ";" by aarich in SCSI.LOAD

That's during the installation of drivers the, which does indeed lead to the conclusion (you were right, RogueSpear) that it's caused by the driver itself.
If there's no new version available soon, I will roll back to the previous driver.
And actually, the pop up does NOT stop the rest of the install, just an annoyance. I can live with that. RS's problem sounds more troubling.
fanatf1 wrote:jtdoom wrote:* when you use new harddrives, no problems.
the conditions we tried were indeed rather unique...
As i wrote in near topic: I use brand new Seagate 320 G + ASUS P5LD2 ICH7R.
I burn UXPCD w/ DP BASE+DP MS. Shot down PC. Connect ONLY my new HDD, set in BIOS mode AHCI.
And start installing WinXP.
AND there comes problem!!
In blue screen where i must partition my HDD i see a message: There are no HDD present bla bla bla.
In BIOS everything ok with HDD and then i set to Normal IDE - installation work perfect!!
This means with new Harddrives user have a problem.
Try installing in AHCI mode now that you have a working partition when you were in IDE mode.
Error solved! Very unique conditions to get this error after all!
The two drives in question that I tested *USED* to be part of a RAID 0 array using driver v5.5. Even though the array was deleted/cleared in the BIOS, when attempting to install on one of those particular SATA drives in AHCI mode, the lock up will occur. The error does NOT occur when using IDE mode, the error does NOT occur on a brand new drive, the error will ONLY occur if the two conditions are present; the SATA drive is in AHCI mode and the drive used to be part of an array in RAID mode. The error is fixed by paritioning the drive first in IDE mode and then switching back to AHCI to run your unattended setup.
What is very interesting is that the error will NOT occur if you use the same version of driver (in my case v5.5) to install in single AHCI mode that was used to install on the drive as part of an array in RAID mode!
So it's safe to say that Intel's fakeraid (ICHxR) leaves a lot of leftover mess on drives even though you "delete" the array in the SATA RAID BIOS setup.
Tested several times now, I can reproduce the error and fix it in my controlled environment.

thinking aloud.
set BIOS to use AHCI...
if these are new hard drives, they should always be seen and be usable
if these were previously set up in RAID array, they should not get seen at all.
(I actually think this is BEST. One is forced to look at this, and has to decide to delete the array, and the data on it. The old one that Gigabyte provided, 5.0.0.1032, saw wrong size, killed the data, then failed.)
just an observation.
in the new box I fired up this morning, the BIOS default settings for all three chips is RAID.
A large percentage of end users never look at BIOS settings, let alone change them..
I think AHCI does not give any speed benefit.
when the chip is set to RAID , it does not have to have member disks in an array. They can all be independant disks.
one of the tings I will try is set one up on iastor in AHCI, then change setting to RAID, and see wether it boots.
If you set up two disks in RAID mode, then if you later switch to AHCI, you of course will not be able to see the array. ACHI is not RAID mode, it's a special mode for single disks (enabling hot swap and other stuff).
But are you saying that if you are using a single disk that USED to be in a RAID array, and try to install on this single disk in AHCI mode, the OS should not see it?
Bâshrat the Sneaky wrote:So basically when you ran the thing in AHCI mode, you would need to disable the ITE RAID controller? That ITE controller is really starting to piss me off... it's caused problems in the past too!
Could you verify that workaround, Fragbert?
ITE is irrelevent, it's not on my board.
My problem is on a vanilla D945GTP intel retail board. It only has ICH7R, nothing else.
OK, so you couldn't get v6.XXX of the F6 drivers to work either then?
I think I may need a few of you to send Intel support a support request on this issue as well since they think my case is an isolated incident.
jtdoom wrote:Hi
I'll be... when I read this, I decided to change BIOS settings in my testrig, and set it to AHCO
(it had previously been set to RAID, and ran from a SATAraid array. ITE Raid has also worked...)
anyhow, this GA8i945Pro motherboard will let setup see the drive, formats it, copies files, and reboots to the DVD, to launch setup all over again...
I think I'll dig up my ITE/IASTOR floppy (they are combined on the floppy) and run setup from a holographed SP2. the files come from the CDROM Gigabyte provided.
Which version of the IASTOR driver?
Helmi wrote:Fragbert wrote:That is wholly unacceptable as I have deployed dozens of ICH7R-based desktops using intel's SATA F6 mode drivers in AHCI mode without any problem until these last few releases. Poo poo on intel!
Did you already contact them in order to make them aware of the problem?
Just wondering.
Obviously, this is an unaccpetable solution but if they don't know they can't fix it
I certainly have opened a ticket with Intel support about this issue, going into the same amount of detail as I have in this thread. My initial response was expectedly an insipid piece of generic pablum from a level-1 tech, not acknowledging whatsoever any problem and wanting me to double check if I indeed selected 82801GR SATA from the F6 menu in setup (of course I did).
We'll see if anything of substance comes back in reply from Intel after my response back.

is it solution for our problem?
If it what i must do to install XP in AHCI mode?
The solution for me at least was DISABLE AHCI mode in the BIOS and revert to simple IDE mode. That is wholly unacceptable as I have deployed dozens of ICH7R-based desktops using intel's SATA F6 mode drivers in AHCI mode without any problem until these last few releases. Poo poo on intel!
The reason why the driver is not reported, I think, is because the system was installed in IDE mode, not AHCI. When installing in AHCI mode, a separate driver is installed and is listed as
ICH7R/DH - 82801GR/GH (PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C1&CC_0106)
the 27C0 is used when in IDE mode and is either a default XP driver or somewhere else in DP MS.
Here is a HWID of a working D945GTP based PC that was installed in ACHI mode with a previous Bâshrat the Sneaky DP / RyanVM unattended CD:

The same prob in topic i just started! ICH7R and AHCI mode and new seagate w/NCQ NOT working WXP w/MSDP didnt see the HDD. But in Standart SATA - WXP installing normally.
CONFIRMED: The latest storage manager boot disk drivers, 6.1.0.1002, can NOT boot off ICH7R in ACHI mode! This was tested on a manual F6 install of XP SP2 without any driver packs or unattended stuff.
The lastest F6 mode driver approved for my particular 945G board, the D945GTP, is the old 5.5.0.1035 stuff from 11/05. This driver does indeed work and is able to access the HD in XP setup. http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts … bmit=Go%21
I will now go through the previous drivers released before 6.1.0.1002, to see which is the latest one that works properly with ICH7R in ACHI mode and will also report the bug to intel. I consider this a bug because even though my particular 945G board lists an older driver to use, the latest 6.1.0.1002 states that it supports ICH7R in ACHI and that should work as advertised!

6.0.0.1002 - FAILED
5.7.0.1011 - FAILED
5.5.0.1035 - works (note: this one is packaged differently than the same version number offered specifically for their desktop boards)

Are you sure this was at T-39 of setup? And did you perhaps automate the installation of the control panel yourself? Or is this not the correct DPsFnshr.log?
My mistake, not the 39th. Actually not sure what minute it was because the damn CP takes up the entire screen during GUI setup, LOL. And no, no automation of the CP, to verify I ran an install without DP sound (all else the same), and no popups. No working sound either
During 39th minute the sigmatel control panel pops up to set headphone or speaker option for the green jack, will not continue until this is set. This is on an Intel D945GTP w/ sigmatel HDA controller. 6081A and 608B DP sound used.

2006-10-04 18:16:03 : Program terminated.
Stuck at "starting windows" in blue screen setup.
Switching from AHCI to plain IDE mode in the BIOS allows the unattended setup to continue (bypasses the need to use mass storage drivers).
Never had this problem before using DP MS. Intel D945GTP motherboard on a 74GB raptor, been using this config for dozens of unattended installations with Bâshrat the Sneaky DriverPacks, never a problem until now.
Here is the DPsFnshr.log on a machine with AHCI disabled (IDE mode):

Anything new on this issue?
Thanks.
FOUND IT.
aarich.sys
Which is an older ICH found on SATA RAID controllers integrated with embedded Intel Xeon server boards. The model name is 6300ESB, nicknamed "Hance Rapids". A clue as to why these drivers may get cross referenced with the older IaStor is that apparently Intel released 875P development boards with the 6300ESB ICH chipset and a few production models exist for industrial applications (however almost all 875 consumer boards use ICH5 instead):
http://www.intel.com/design/intarch/man … 106101.pdf
http://www.portwell.com/embedded/ATX_Mo … 7703GA.htm
Strangely enough, the 6300ESB is still supported by intel in the latest chipset release: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts … bmit=Go%21
UPDATE: Found this page: http://www.intel.com/design/chipsets/em … 300esb.htm
"Intel has integrated features into the 6300ESB ICH that offer the performance, stability and reliability customers require for embedded computing applications. It is a derivative of the Intel® 82801EB (ICH5) and builds upon the ICH5 design by improving bandwidth via PCI-X 64/66 and PCI 32/33 support. It also provides port 60/64 emulation, dual 16500 compatible UARTs, a two-stage watchdog timer, and 37 GPIOs."
So anyway, adding a ";" by aarich in SCSI.LOAD did the trick. Not sure on what the solution would be to have both drivers coexist without causing a mess, I'll leave that up to you
Ok all drivers listed *before* iastrold are commented out in SCSI.Load. Result - 0x7b BSOD. That's the first I've seen that. EDIT - WOOPS, need atapi.sys will continue tonight.
I'll edit this post as I go through with this testing.
Isn't linked on the Graphics download page, but adding a "1" to the 608 download url got the 608.1 release. Also, base tells me "Where did you get that?"
Well as long as you feel my troubleshooting is worthwhile to continue, I can go ahead try systematically to find the culprit in SCSI.Load
I'll start by remarking one half of the list (keeping iastrold of course) and if it loads properly, then we know that half of the list does not have the culprit, so then on to the other half of the list, then segment that list into halves, and try to narrow down which one is causing this mess without going through a whole spool of CD media
Bâshrat the Sneaky wrote:The JMicron drivers. I think you only commented ONE of the TWO JMicron drivers during your tests?
I commented out both, the raid and the ahci and still got the error. Are there other jmicron drivers or oem drivers that are similar to jmicron?
UPDATE - WINDOWS FINALLY FOUND THE DRIVE!
I decided to remark out *every* single driver in SCSI.Load except for atapi.sys and iastrold. That worked! I could finally partition and install.
So the next step is to find out which driver in SCSI.Load is causing the conflict. Bashrat, you have any other suspects on your list?
I feel finally relieved that a) I'm not crazy and b) your iastrold driver is indeed the right driver to use. Must have went through a dozen DVD burns.
Still no dice
I marked out both the jmicron and iastor in SCSI.Load of my txtsetup.sif, and I also marked out all lines in the [Data] and [Unattended] sections of my winnt.sif (except for OemPreinstall=Yes) in order to manually select and partition the drive.
Windows simply does not see the RAID 0 array on the ICH5R controller when using MassStorage. Same error, "no hard disk drives".
Any other tricks to try?
Bâshrat the Sneaky wrote:If that doesn't work, you may also want to comment out the JMicron drivers. They've created a conflict in the past, so...
EDIT: also look WHICH driver is loaded. If you boot from a regular IDE controller, it will say 'atapi' for example. You should see 'iastrold', nothing else.
Ok where do I look to see which driver I am booting off of during setup? Or is this something to look for after the fact (which I guess would not be needed since it managed to install )
