I noticed one driver that was present in the MSI blob but not in any DriverPacks.
It's in the "Filter" folder but it looks to be only for Vista/Win7. Other than that, no other differences I could see.

As far as the MSI one goes, I think you were on to something when you said it could be chipset related. I noticed that when I tried installing the Catalyst drivers for legacy devices from ATI, it didn't work. But after I went to the MSI website and downloaded the chipset drivers, the Catalyst ones installed just fine.

So I'll try looking through the chipset DP right now and see if I discover anything interesting. I doubt I will, but it's worth a shot.

I'm not sure what's going on with the MSI Radeon board. It should work because it's supported by the 10.2 legacy catalyst drivers.

summary

MSI unit from first post:
no idea what's up with it. chipset drivers don't get installed, nor do gfx drivers. can't find any DriverPacks that do work with it.

Gateway notebook:
DPM901 works perfect with it, textmode and all.
DPM10103 does not -- can't get through textmode setup because it doesn't recognize the drive, i've been unsuccessful in getting other drivers to work with it. from the looks of it, it ought to be working.

Update on the laptop. I had a copy of DPM901 (md5: 1414BC6639F60EC4D91D97A2D3E72A9A) laying around. It's working so far. I'm afraid I don't understand what's happening in the INI file, however.

Both of these entries say...

ms_1_sysFile="iastor.sys"

... but in the newer INI files, you don't use this technique, so I'm not sure which one is taking precedence. My HWID falls under the entry for 7.8.0.1012, but this driver may wind up being overwritten with the newer version (8.6.0.1007). I guess I'll find out once Windows finishes installing and report back with the results.

So it seems as though I need 7.8.0.1012 for textmode, but other versions might work just fine after that.

I don't have access to v6.2.0.2002. But have you tried moving your HWID to the [i] .ini header?

I created an [I62] header, copied the syntax from other entries, added my HWID to it, duplicated the iastor.sys file and renamed it to iastor62.sys, etcetera. That did not work as expected. Still didn't read the hard drive. Am I putting in the wrong HWID? I notice that the one I put in shows up in iaahci.inf, but not in iastor.inf. Does that sound correct?

Here is the 6.2.0.2002 driver that does work if I use the traditional method of integrating via nLite or whatever.

Here are all of the MSI drivers, post-installation (I used devcon and a batch script to back them up, so hopefully it turned out okay):

And the SM Bus driver is the one that didn't get installed by DriverPacks. Well, that and the VGA one (which I got from ATI). The sound driver installed, but it was quirky. When I downloaded the sound driver from Windows Update, it was all fixed.

I noticed the neat trick you do with I4 where the textmode driver differs from the post-installation driver. Something like that might work with this laptop as well. I'll fiddle around with things. I got my CD-RW out. lol.

Incidentally, have you tried the Intel RST 10 beta drivers for dpms? They should be a drop-in replacement for \I4\

Interesting thing I learned about the MSI website a while back. Change the subdomain to eu.

Now the links work. But if you still have issues, let me know and I'll upload it to my own server.

Also, the notebook still has issues during textmode (using DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_101003). It keeps telling me that no hard drive is detected. You might be getting thrown off because the HWID.txt file shows that all devices installed properly, but that's because I used stock drivers from the Gateway website.

OK, well I think I know what happened with the system in the first post. None of the supporting chipset HWIDs are found in the chipset or graphics DriverPacks. I'll have to look into that.
Since the audio chip is supported by DriverPack Sound A (generic realtek), I can only assume that it didn't work because of the missing chipset drivers.
Unfortunately the download links don't work from your first post. And I can't find any compatible AMD drivers for those HWIDs.

The second Gateway notebook should definitely work with the newer dpms 101003. But let us know if it doesn't.

Here's my laptop stuff. I wanna emphasize that I didn't use DriverPacks on this thing. I tried, but since it can't read the drive during textmode, setup couldn't continue and I still haven't reformatted. So right now it has the stock drivers from the Gateway website.

I can confirm that 10.9 and 10.6 do not work with it. I'll build a disc with 10.10.3 right now and try that. [edit- 10.10.3 did not work either]

What I do know is that version 6.2.0.2002 of the iaStor driver works with it. version 7.8.0.1012 does not. version 8.9.2.1002 does not. version 8.6.0.1007 is compatible in textmode, but BSODs after first reboot post-installation. version 7.0.0.1020 is untested; it might work. I did most of this testing a year or so ago (I'm reading some notes I wrote for myself). I might retest just to verify that it's all accurate. In the meantime, here's the HWID.TXT file...
