I loaded a 64bit Vista OS on a machine that was shipped with a 32bit Vista OS. The laptop's monitor works, but the system can't recognize the factory-installed video card.

MAKE/MODEL: Sony VGN-FW190 laptop

OS: Vista 64-bit Home Premium (fresh install)

VIDEO CARD: ATI Radeon 3400 Series

I have been told by Sony that their drivers are proprietary; that is, you cannot install a driver for a higher model into a lower-model machine. For example, we tried installing a 64bit video driver for the VGN-VFW270 model onto the VGN-FW190 model, but the VGN-FW190 machine returned an error message saying that this is not allowed.

I have already tried loading 64-bit drivers from the AMD site, but none of these drivers will install on the VGN-FW190 machine.

I've also tried finding a 64-bit video driver for my ATI card from esupport.sony.com. Fail. The only driver Sony supplies is the one for the 32bit Vista OS.

Please, someone help me find a 64bit graphics card driver for an ATI Radeon 3400 series video card that can be installed onto a VGN-FW190 laptop.

Any help you can give me is appreciated, and I thank you for your time.
