So, I am currently downloading UBCD at work and hope to have an image within the hour or so. UBCD finds the NIC,  nVidia nForce pci\ven_10de&dev_0057&subsys_25011565&rev_a3\3&2411e6fe&0&50
driver - nvefd2k.sys

but I still had to change the [SCSI Load]

[SCSI.Load]
>moved<

megasr=megasr.SY_,4
MegaINTL=MegaINTL.SY_,4
MegaIDE=MegaIDE.SY_,4

>just below the entries<

[SCSI.Load]
iastor86=iastor86.SY_,4
iastor78=iastor78.SY_,4
iastor70=iastor70.SY_,4
iastor55=iastor55.SY_,4

I have one issue remaining which probably belongs in the LAN section, namely, even when using a SAD, I am unable to install drivers for the onboard nic listed above. In fact, I don't know that I even see a HWID for a network device:

DUh - I'm an idiot, it's right there (PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0057&SUBSYS_25011565&REV_A3\3&2411E6FE&0&50: Other PCI Bridge Device) but other pci bridge device? - Den

Hope this post is appropriate here as it sort of ties up the loose ends and moves into a different forum, LAN I guess. Thanks for all of your help here, I know I've seen Overflow post in the other forum.

Mark and Overflow,

Thank you both. Your explanations have really advanced my understanding of the build process as well as the advantages of using UBCD4Win. You know, you just put so much time into understanding, accumulating plugins for, and researching a particular system that it's hard to abandon all of that time and effort.

I guess tracking down the LAN issue is a short term solution while changing to UBCD4Win is long term. I'll start to work on UBCD and see how I make out.

Thank you all for your help.

I have been able to resolve the problem of seeing the raid array volumes following the general directions in the thread provided, Index » DriverPack MassStorage » [BUG] Intel Matrix Controller PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C3 , and moved the following:

[SCSI.Load]

megasr=megasr.SY_,4
MegaINTL=MegaINTL.SY_,4
MegaIDE=MegaIDE.SY_,4

just below the entries

[SCSI.Load]
iastor86=iastor86.SY_,4
iastor78=iastor78.SY_,4
iastor70=iastor70.SY_,4
iastor55=iastor55.SY_,4

could not find
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27C3&SUBSYS_01D21028&REV_01\3&172E68DD&0&FA  or
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_27DF&SUBSYS_01D21028&REV_01\3&172E68DD&0&F9  seqrching the TXTSETUP.SIF . By the way, is all of the blank space normal in this file?

I didn't really follow the logic of this and any clarification would be appreciated. Bottom line is that it worked. Thanks.

However, I am still having problems with the LAN drivers. I updated to DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_1002.7z , deleted the \plugin\driverpacks.net altogether, and recreated the plugin using DPBase v 8.12.5.

When booting, the prompt to start the network support appears, I select start the service using DHCP, but a subsequent message appears indicating that no ethernet adapters were found. The HW ID's for the first machine, already posted are:

Edit... code tags added

I am currently very carefully working through the construction of my PE folders, plugins, and source files. I am changing the source from SP3 to SP2, and have a question out to xpe@collewijn.info about expanding drivers into the XPE plugin folders, namely,

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
NOTE: you must update the drivers that you extract from driver.cab with the ones from sp1.cab or sp2.cab depending on which service pack you use. The service pack files update some of the existing drivers but not all of them. (from Paraglider).
http://www.collewijn.info/xpe/main.php
<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I'm not sure if this just means copy over the original files or if a process needs to run.

I sure hope this exercise is useful to other users, it has been to me.

It seems to me that BartPE is falling by the wayside and that UBCD4WIN is gaining in prominence. Should I consider changing my core to UBCD4WIN and if so, what might the problems/implications be?

Thanks,

Den

Overflow,

Once again, thanks for the quick response. We're snowed out here for the day which may afford me the opportunity to try this at home or at least I will be in the office on Thursday 2/11.

This post hits some of the key questions I have had when I first began to experience difficuly with my Bart image. I might be flogging a dead horse here, but I'm thick, so please bear with me.

Being a neophyte, these questions perplex me:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Bart supports only LAN and Mass Storage even though additional choices are available on the DPBase driver selection page for PE. Posts regarding this are a bit old and I may have overlooked something.

Once the DPBase is used to create the plug in it can be reconfigured from within PEBuilder plugin tab or DPBase can be used, does it make any difference?

I have tried the DPBase slipstream method, my config #1, but the driver for the network card, on board, fails to install. When attempting this procedure, I had deleted all folders within the \pebuilder\drivers and had deleted the \plugin\DriverPacks.net folder as well so that the plugin would rebuild completely. Is there a better way for me to identify and correct, or at least report  the problem in a more cogent fashion? Because the nic is onboard, could it be a chipset driver is required?

One additional question, somewhat off topic, I don't really grasp the following three options:

DriverPacks MassStorage text mode for stand alone disk.(which I use frequently, thank you)
* I tried using this to install the LAN drivers on the computer I am having problems with but no drivers installed

The difference between method 1(copy) and  method 2(dummy setup) for stand alone disk, such as "method 1 is really good for...", or ,"method 2 has a major drawback..."

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Sorry for being so obtuse. I really appreciate the help.

Sincerely,

froshcoach

I apologise for being away from this posting for so long. I have been working to resolve the issue and would like to share what I have found.

First I would like to say I appreciate the efforts all of you make on behalf of techs like me who work across a multitude of hardware and software platforms. I am grateful for the information and work product you share. I have learned quite a bit and am still learning. I'd like to get this right and so have a few more questions.

My original post had a glaring omission in that I failed to include the fact that I am using Sherpya's XPE plugin. After reading the response to my original post, I decided to recreate totally my PEBuilder(v3.1.10a) files, my Sherpya plugins ( http://www.collewijn.info/xpe/main.php ), and some modifications
( http://www.howtohaven.com/system/custom … e-cd.shtml ). I surmised that I had corrupted some files somewhere by using both RyanVM ( http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack-sp3.html ) and nLite ( http://www.nliteos.com/index.html ) to trim and enhance the build. After the reconstruct I was able to create a bootable image.

Next I endeavored to add DP's to the image. It was at this point that I realized that there are two methods to include the drivers, extract the drivers from the DP zips into the appropriate folder in \pebuilder\drivers\LAN - Scsiadapters or by just using the DPBase. When I used the DPBase slipstream method, the LAN drivers were not installed. When I used the extraction method, there were build errors, below. At this point the experimentation began.

I am using DPBase 8.12.5, DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_8121.7z and DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_901.7z. I have also tried DPs_BASE_90201.exe which failed to boot at all, and DP_LAN_wnt5_x86-32_1001b2.7z,  DP_MassStorage_wnt5_x86-32_100125.7z.

I tried four different configurations:
                               Slipstream                      \drivers\folder
1                              LAN - MS
2                                 LAN                                     MS
3                                  MS                                    LAN
4                                                                        LAN-MS

I would like to concentrate on method 3.

When doing the build having placed the extracted LAN drivers into drivers\lan the following errors were encountered. I include only the errors to save some space:

I found this post for the workaround:
http://forum.driverpacks.net/viewtopic.php?id=2224

however, it is unclear to me if there is a final solution to the nVidia driver problems expounded on in the post. There appears to be a suggestion that the Joshua plugin which I found here
( http://www.drowaelder.de/winpe/PEIndex.htm ) will work, but I don't know how to implement this plugin correctly. For example, I have extracted the indicated files

( Copy the following files into the plugin\NForceAll-RIS-V2\files directory:
nvnb5032.inf, nvefd2k.sys, nvnrm.sys, nvnb5032.tag.
nvrisxp.inf, nvenet.sys, nvcoe.dll, fdco1.dll, nvuenet.exe, nvenet.nvu, nvenet.cat
remove all other nforce network drivers if you use this plugin !)

from the NForceAll-RIS-V2.Cab into the \plugins\NForceAll-RIS-V2\files folder but I don't know what to do with the files in either of the zips, NVIDIAMCP73_RIS_v6753.zip or RIS_2K&XP_V471.zip . The instruction, "remove all other nforce network drivers if you use this plugin" seems to imply that the LAN drivers need to be in the \drivers\lan folder and that the NV folders should be deleted.

So here's where I stand currently, I have a bootable BartPE using the DP slipstream method which does not install drivers for the nVidia nic, HWID's following. Also, I have another computer that boots BartPE fine but cannot see the raid array. Here are my questions:

1. Which method is preferred/best method to include the driver packs?
2. Is the Joshua plugin OK and how do I handle the plugin files and other drivers?
3. Is there any additional information I can supply?
4. I have read that it's difficult to add drivers to a pack but can I add individual drivers via a plugin and if so, which DP integraton is better?
5. What can I do to help?

I cannot thank you enough for any help and I hope the information here is helpful to someone. HWID's are below.

Sincerely,
froshcoach

Overflow,

Thanks for the quick response.

Apologies for selecting the wrong forum. Also, sorry about the inappropriatness of the modified file but the postings I read seemed to indicate that the method used would not cross any legal boundary.

I will try your recommendations tomorrow and report back. Thanks again.

Dennis

I hope I am in the correct forum and can relate all the steps taken to resolve this issue.

I am using BartPE 3.1.10a to create a PXE cd\dvd. I recently began to slipstream driverpacks into the image. The base image I use is from a Dell OEM disk, XP Pro SP2. I have used the instructions from Paul Thurrott"s site,

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/wi … stream.asp

to slipstream the image to SP3. The disk is being used exclusively as a preinstallation environment disk for AV and disk utilities.

Using DriverPacks Base v 8.12.5, Install platform BartPE, selecting all driver packs, select DriverPack MassStorage text mode, the slipstreaming of the selected packs proceeds without error.

In the BartPE plugin module, I use the configure option on DriverPacks.net BASE which also proceeds without problem. Additionally, I have disabled the Adaptec ASPI plugin in this module as instructed, I believe, in a post here. I have modified the ntdetect.com file as indicated here:

http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php? … 1&st=0  by Cyrano.

I realize that this fix was intended for USB boot but reading further in the thread I found that the modified ntdetect worked with disk media too.

When I build the image in BartPE, electing to create an image file (.iso) there is a warning about using an OEM image, but I have never had a problem using that image. After creating the image I use MagicISO v5.5 to burn the image to DVD-R.  Booting from the DVD results in error 0x7b just after the Windows splash screen starts with the progress bar animation. I have tried MassStorage driver packs 8.05, 9.01, and 9.09r6 from the nightlies without success.

I have created a DVD disk without the MassStorage driver packs and that boots and recognizes the drives. I have tried unchecking text mode just to see, but that failed to boot.

I hope I have observed all of the protocols for posting. I have scoured the forum and the internet for references to this error and found some information which relate to USB boot or error messages referencing ICH.

Any help is appreciated as I don't quite know where to look to pinpoint the error.

Dennis
