I’ve been trying for two days now. And im stuck.
I’ve got XP with an older version of driver pack slipstreamed into the install. I’ve installed some third party drivers for video at a later date.
Ive migrated to different hardware via Acronis universal restore.
(I don’t understand this fully)
Acronis looks to my windows/inf for driver on restoration of the image (inf files?)
And driver packs is in C:D/
Although it dosnt do this well at all.
In fact I find if I do this like this, I get no CPU driver, as driver packs only has the AMD K7
(Something t do with HAL??)
(Again, I don’t understand this)
The problems comes when updating my now obsolete third party drivers back to the driver pack ones.
I created a Driver packs DVD as instructed in overflows FAQ.
I go to dev manager, select search media. I end up with a "files needed" box
Not telling me what location in the driver pack.
Just asking for disk #1 of my old driver.
I cant bypass it.
How do i remove this reference to the old third party driver? is it in the inf folder?
I tried DPINST.exe but that didn’t install anything, not even the LAN. All red crosses for that one. (dam!)
It searches ok on a fresh install before the third party drivers go on.
But after the 3rd party drivers go on its difficult to go back to the driver packs.
Any ideas?
Also, once updated with new version of driver packs (if I ever get there (hope))
Can I delete the old C:\D\ folder?
Thanks in advance for any help.
