I see, that explains a lot.
The generic match (realtek) doesn't work on my laptop (! in device manager and no sound). The Vinyl AC'97 one on the driver packs does work if I choose that one. It's a newer one than the one I used to use.
My laptop is far from top of the line so it has no chance of running Vista, haha.

Oh, I see what happened. I opened the BASE to see if I had any settings wrong and that overwrote the log... I'll slipstream and install again tonight and post the log.

Hello. I slipstreamed all the driver packs into my windows xp CD and tried installing. The first time the graphic card driver and sound driver did not install. I reinstalled windows 2 more times and only the sound didn't work the last 2 times. It chooses to install the realtek driver instead of the vinyl driver.
