I slipstreamed sp3 in to an OEM XP pro sp2 source using nLite (and tweaked it a bit, removing software, disabling services and some drivers)
In nLite, in the drivers pane it is noted that you can safely remove the drivers if you will be using another source to install them. Judging from a previous post from mr_smartepants that will probably be the issue.
