hmm most odd appears to be fine in VirtualBox - i never had a problem in virtual PC though before? (done this a million times before)

update - it was fine until it hung with a black screen and vertical green stripes anyway.

Just tested with DPs_BASE_805.exe and seems same issue?

I have always made them on DVD with 3rd party packs so just for my two cents fitting on a CD hasnt been relevant for a long time.
Fastest (should/would) be extracting straight from CD/DVD from packs packed with minimal compression to HDD. Reading a sequentially large file is quick (think ripping an ISO, or verifying a burn). HD>HD extraction is going to be slower unless you have a super fast PC/HDD.
If anyone is interested I make a DVD with the added packs, create ~3.5Gb padfile, add it with UltraISO setting pad file priority to 9 (means it gets put on centre of disk, low LBA) - all the useful files are then placed on the outside of the DVD so xfer rates are about 4x faster overall. You can also keep the DP folder priority 0, and everything else 1 if you want max extract speed (this will place them on outside of disk, so you get about 22x read over 4x on inside)

Testing on virtual pc 2007 sp1 and its bombing with a popup
''16 bit MS-DOS subsystem"
ntvdm-210.214.300002
c:\windows\system32\config.nt. The syste file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and microsoft windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
<CLOSE> <IGNORE>

Clicking ignore then has same popup with the "ntvdm...." line replaced with
"c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe"

Ignore brings up another of the same, then another ignore gets another popup saying it cannot find c:\DSPdsblr.exe
- presume as the first bit failed.
---------------------------

This was all fine on previous builds and nothing else on the system has changed (as far as I can think)
Built non-KTD, method 2, RunOnce setup, XP SP3

Hi,

Some DEV's are missing in the [I3] section of the ini, such as 2929
It looks like the drivers were updated in the I3 folder but not the ini.
(Incidently there is a later driver version for I3 than in current pack)

Cheers

checked that is the full KTD path string from the reg, I cut and pasted it into notepad (laptop has gone now so i cant look on it anymore)

this is the finisher.ini, appears to be no .log ?

Hi Overflow,
I built it about 4 days ago, so had everything at latest release versions on that day.
Latest base, had (all?) the KTD entries but missing the %systemroot%\inf. The path contents began with a ";" as if something was chopped off.
The rest of the hardware had all installed fine on the laptop bar the sound card (Soundmax H......). (and it has all sorts of stuff) making me think it had happened near the end of everything?
Am afraid is at work so cannot look today at what was actually in the path (was a last minute thing fri afternoon)
I think I had 3/4 of the 3rd party DP's, but again without being at work I cant tell you precisely. I definitely didn't have the canon printer ones, nor the webcam, nor scanner, nor tv, nor broadband - but probably everything else.
Thanks

Hi,
In my latest 'normal' build I added a few extra 3rd party driverpacks than usual. (w/ full KTD, method 2, Runonce install)
The build was exactly the same as all the others in every other way, that never have had this problem.
USB keys/mice then asking for drivers on plugging in after windows installed.
To cut a long story short, it turned out the %systemroot%\inf was missing from the DevicePath key in the registry. (Problem reproduced on other pc's with this build)
As far as I know the registry key length here isn't the limiting factor, so assume some other limit has been hit, being as extra 3rd party DP's will have increased the amount of data going to this key?
Any ideas? cheers

cdob and his hotfix suggestion fixed it!

yes that fixed it, tested on D430 and 755 !!!!
cdob, you're a god!

Hi,
I have spent most of last year and this year developing a reliable sysprep solution with one image covering all machines.
It hopefully now gets around most of the wierd and wonderful behaviours of hardware, especcially with Dell laptops.
Actually its a bit more than that , it's a full machine from box to user thing, all automated.
I developed it for the hospital I work at, but as I am soon leaving I need to document it all anyway; so over next few weeks I will try and make a comprehensive explanation of it all.

Jaak: it was BSOD'ing on reboot with error of no mass storage with the win2k/2003 one, afraid I cannot do any more testing easily as the projects gone live and machines being imaged, i amusing my separate pack.

mr_s : i made own pack and it worked, thanks for your insight though - I'd like to have a play with your idea but projects started and not to keen to mess with somehting that works.

They have a special high density output with cable that splits to 3 vga or DVI sockets (separate cables). They are going to be used for PACS (X-ray) stuff. you have to buy two special 'factory matched' monitors for them (greyscale ones)

They look like £10 graphics cards but cost several hundred pounds, the 20 inch monitors greyscales for them are £650 each!

XP one i posted worked, (i made it myself into pack before I got this post)
the win2k/2k3 didnt work when I tried just now after rebuild - thanks anyway

we got a load of them, come in plain boxes and dont have a driver CD which wasn't very helpful, nor are there any on Matrox's site I could see.
I cant see there would be a problem, nothing special in the driver package, just vanilla drivers.

SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC is ok on some Dell models, but not others - using sysprep - so presume its driver not method?

same issue on D630 and others, still not heard anything?
