I think that the iPad fits your needs. But I prefer to work on the laptop, because mouse is more convenient and more accurate than fingers 
. iPad - entertainment and little work (just fixing something). I don't think that the iPad can fully replace a laptop.

I think that Mac OS is definitely better than Win 7. First is great stability, second - any device doesn't require complicated setup to work properly. And third - Mac OS is free from viruses so you don't need an anti-virus and you save money and time!
