I tried installing Windows server 2008 R2 on my new box today (and yesterday!) and had some major problems getting the LAN adapter to install. Tried pretty much every single driver out there, and nothing. Not even Intel's generic drivers worked. Tried the dirver packs, and still nothing.

After getting some help from TechDud in finding the real model number for the chip I was able to find the following fix: http://communities.intel.com/message/161157#161157 . Basically, they just fix the inf to allow installation of server OSs on desktop boards.

Cheers!

EDIT: This is the driver I used - "PROWinx64.exe" from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_ … inx64.exe+
